Argentina

ARGENTINA 4-1 SPAIN. Gracias muchachos!

o_seleccion_argentina_la_hinchada-719954

The Monumental was like in paradise yesterday night. The passes, the movements, Messi’s outstanding dribblings, etc. It was pure magic, whatever the score is.

Of course, our defensive system is new and not accurate yet. It was clear at the beginning of each period that Batista was trying to make them defend as a unit and he must continue. It is very important. Leo and Carlito must be totally involved in the midfield defence, and I suppose they are learning to do so with Argentina.

I guess that like many of you amigos, we all realize a bit more the huge WC 2010 waste and that even a correct coach would have been enough. It confirms what we’ve been repeating for years. At least, with this kind of result/demonstration, people abroad Argentina can understand all this.

I’m so happy for Zanetti & Cambiasso (who was tactically tremendous!). Our players are magnificent, like they’ve always been. Gracias Argentina!

Great, great result! And we saw some nice football also. Banega linked well up with Messi and it was good to see Cambiasso back also. Just imagine the game against Germany with this midfield…………
We defended, or tried to defend, 4-1-4-1 for most of the game, and that is a must. BUT our defenders, or more important our defending as a team, looked shaky at times, in my opinion. Spain hit the post 3 times and probably created 4 other big chances. It was NOT a perfect performance. But ok, it was against the best team in the world and I guess it's obvious that the world champions will create chances. Overall this is a step in the right direction, and a fantastic result for us. I am not 100% convinced asbout Batista yet, though….
One thing is for sure: We need more of these european top teams to come to Argentina and experience how it is to play in front of our passionate home crowd.

Maradona should learn some major things from Batista. His biased, blind and unlogical decisions in his WC selection has cost us the title. The return of Gabi Milito, Zanetti, Cambiasso and Banega has been the best gift Batista could give us all fans. Our screw loose in the world cup (midfield) has been tighten now with 3 powerhouses (Masche, Cambi and Ever). With this midfield players like Messi won't be wasted as well and he can save more energy for attacking tasks. The only fratile part of the puzzle is Demichelis now which I believe has to be replaced by Samuel anytime soon. He's not a reliable piece for our starting material and Batista better accept it asap. Great show and a great result from a team which we all expected. Congratulations and keep on your good work amigos. Vamos Argentina!

There were a lot of positives to take away from the game, although the scoreline flatters to deceive. I don't really count the chances in the 2nd half for Spain as Argentina clearly took it's foot off the gas, but it was startling to watch another team cycle possession against us in the manner in which Spain did, especially in the first half when both teams were trying. Now tiki taka / tango is synonymous with Spanish football. People have really short memories. To the victors goes the spoils I guess. But, Spain truly are a great team and beating them has to count for something.

I don't know if watching this game made me happy or so angry at how we wasted WC 2010. Totally agreed MAXI and RUNE, if we had this system (Carlitos and Messi defending) and yesterday's MF, we would have bested Germany. Crying shame really. What killed me was that the commentators were all stunned that Spain could be beaten by Argentina. It's the depths that Maradona has taken us down in the world's eyes.

Credit Batista for getting Tevez and Messi to come back and like you guys said, implement some kind of defensive system. RUNE, you pretty much stole my thoughts there: “Spain hit the post 3 times and probably created 4 other big chances. It was NOT a perfect performance.” Exactly. I just hope the scoreline doesn't get to the AFA's head and they do the right thing when selecting the new coach.

Finally, has there been another GK who has been saved by the bar as much as Romero has been? Since the Peru game, I can count 8 times that the post has saved him. His positioning sense and the way in which he reacts to balls laterally leave a lot to be desired. His technique is just not correct. I cannot believe Carizzo is not starting ahead of this guy.

  • Maxi Lopez

I totally agree with you. It's nice to see you around my friend.

  • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/PQOHKZLOK2GMKBPFXJJXCW5WJ4 Nima

Carrizo who?! Have you watched him in the last years?! He's like 10% better than an empty net. He had disaster years in europe which means he's not up to the standards as an international GK. How many flops Romero has he's still a starter for his club and won the dutch league with 'em. Plus don't forget he's still young. Even if Romero is gonna be replaced by any other GK it has to be Ustari. No other Argie GK is close to their levels right now.

  • Maxi Lopez

I agree SKY. We need a coach who will manage to make the forwards defend like tigers (like Mourinhi), and it mustn't easy to demand this to Messi & Tevez, for example. Lets hope Batista is the man, even if I have my doubts about it. The game wasn't perfect at all, it's true. Hopefully, Cambiasso was there.

where can i download the full game, please

  • roroda

guys of course It wasn't a perfect performance It was just the second game after the world cup the team needs time but trying to do the right things and stepping in the right direction was great like defending with more guys and somehow 4-1-4-1 formation in defense not complete yet after that disaster(Maradona) it needs time to adapt with this defensive system and another positive thing was making strikers to defend and of course strong midfield i was very happy that I saw Banega was playing like a 28 years old player with a lot of experience there.now Batista from now on should start to bring new guys in defense for CB we have good options although they need more experience Fazio and Garay but sorry to repeat this much but LB and RB are the very important positions that we should keep an eye there.

  • ClaudioLopez_7

Argentina were almost unrecognisable from the rabble that went out in such embarrassing fashion to Germany.

  • ClaudioLopez_7

A right back playing at right back, three central midfielders playing in a three-man central midfield, and three of the world's best forwards allowed – by virtue of that balanced midfield – to play at the end of the pitch that they do so brilliantly at, really does make a hell of a difference when set against the disorganisation and bizarre selections of Maradona.
    A quote from ESPN

  • ClaudioLopez_7

Whilst there are one or two odd decisions (persisting with Martín Demichelis at centre back?), that's a far cry from the out-and-out oddities Maradona frequently came up with.
Funny… something against Maradona? I wonder how he felt when he was watching the match and see how decent coaching can do wonders? Or maybe he didn't even watch it.

  • http://argentina.worldcupblog.org Watch_10

Carrizo was a good talent, but he did not kept his mind strong to succeed in europe. I think if he gets his act together (take some suggestions from Banega :-) ), he can be very very good.

But at his present situation , he doesnot belong as 1st GK.

Ustari is no no no way… he has lost it somewhere on the way, he has to perform for atleast a year consistently to displace Romero.

Romero has issues but I hope he learns, the biggest problem is he do not have guts to command the players like Milito/Heinze/Zanetti/Demi , if it would be Fazio/Garay/Pareja/Ansaldi etc he will do that .

Some more good GKs competing for his position will make him better.

  • http://argentina.worldcupblog.org Watch_10

If go with talent wise Demi is a good defender. But there is some issues either his or his clubs training or whatever that he is at times getting slow, that makes his decisions bit strange or in panic (sliding in wrong positions that gives the striker all the room to play).

Now is the best time to Bring somefresh CB and put Demi in bench (he will then push for his position).

If I look back to NT players, we could not replace two lost important players/positions

a fast clever CB (ayala) and a clinical striker (Crespo).

On top of it we could not find a replacement for the aging Zanetti in Right back position

and we somehow fail to recognize Ansaldi who can fill up the leftback position .

So overall we are weak (shaky , slow or less confident ) defensive back four AND

We have our nerves on our mouth in terms of getting the goals (at times of need we dont see a goal getter) out of smallest of chances.

  • http://profiles.yahoo.com/u/PQOHKZLOK2GMKBPFXJJXCW5WJ4 Nima

I have no problem with Romero as our first Gk now. Simply because we have no better option than him. Regarding Ustari I believe it too that he didn't improve as much as we expected but I still think he's the Argentina's second best GK after Romero now. I guess Batista will call him up too soon.

  • Albo1

    The game was perfect.
At least, for as long as we wanted.
Now, the picky fans who are not convinced, go find a team that will play Spain better.

  • Amit Bagchi

Argentina needs to play huge friendly matches with teams like Spain.this is the only way to make experiment on the players.now this is the time to regain our confidence.Batista should look on the young players,no need to wasting time with the old players who can't play the next WC.we should remember that Batista is not perfect yet , but we believe that he has the ability to be perfect.well, this is the real new beginning for Argentine football, our most loving one ever and definitely forever!!

  • kxr

Excellent result! – first of all from a stand point of the team showing its potential. Then it’s another proof statement that sometimes just our talent may be way overwhelming for any opponent.
    Key differences I saw:
    1. Presence of Cambiasso is invaluable – he is a professor on the field. Wise and confident – pleasure to watch.
    2. Presence of Zanetti – in his 36 he can still play better than many youngsters.
    3. Tevez playing a bit under Messi and Higuain in a role of supplier/playmaker makes sense. He has good eyes, he passes well and he is a speedy workaholic on the field. We need more players like him, as a speed and physical/mental fitness is the key to success in today’s world.
    4. Banega’s solid play in MF adds stability in the middle.
    5. Romero was a bit more confident, but needs more practice under constantly high pressure from an attacking power of our opponents, if we are to keep him as #1 keeper.
However as much as I enjoyed the game, lets not full ourselves.
First of all it was a friendly and I could feel that our guys found more room and more freedom, which definitely played to our advantage. In big tournaments we will be tight contested all the time.
Second, Spain started with keeper #3 (then substituted for #2). If they started Casillas – it could be a different story.
Third, they let 3 starters from defense to rest, which also played to our advantage.
So all for all it was a good performance of extremely talented squad hungry for better results. But the final score to me is a result of a smarter player selection and a better coaching approach rather than a pure reflection of our NT strength versus Spain’s strength.
My next point may sound funny if not crazy, but it seems like finally,…finally all our collective criticism (and I have to say that this group of people making posts here is one of a more intelligent I've ever seen, with high IQ level and great analytical skills, so thank you all and keep doing what you do) somehow started to get translated into some little pushes and bit by bit, little by little started to affect minds of those in charge of NT and push the whole train in right direction.
    Lets see what happens next.

  • Albo1

    Big difference.
    1. there's a plan.
    2. the players respect it.

  • http://argentina.worldcupblog.org Watch_10

In overall footballing terms, there are usually small patterns ,

Is this the first signs of the begining of the end of spanish domination(English, french, italy ,Brazil, Mexico etc can seriously challenge tactically or technicaly the spainish style of play, argentina already did it :-) ) .

Is this the first steps of the rise of Argentina

In club football its always the transfer market that plays the first steps in the trophies to come.

In NT football its always the critical decisions within the squad that are the turning points of a nation (e.g. dropping of Raul for spain, releasing senior players for Russia, puting Forlan in the hole for uruguay instead as a forward etc).

For us will it be Batista(coach) or it is cambiasso(inclusion) or its DiMaria(changed to super sub) ?

I recommend people to watch the game again, see the significance of Cambiasso. NT missed him, I really dont see any point to compare him and ask to include Gago in there(Nothing against Gago but Cambiasso is tacticaly, positionaly and above all is playing simple)

  • chalz

hahaha true, what would have maradona thought while watching this match? . . . or maybe as u had written 'he would have never watched it at all'. . . but no matter what . . . He won a world cup for Argentina in 1986 miraculously and lost a world cup for Argentina in 2010 so foolishly . . . no other words to write.

  • roroda

Yea maybe Don Julio started to read the blogs in his free time.CLASSIC.

  • RiverPlateElMasGrande

Gracias Argentina for showing that spain didn't deserve to win the WC! lol See what a difference a coach can make. Its all about tactics and choosing the right players for our NT! It was so nice to see that all spain could do was these long kicks trying, hoping and praying for the ball to go in our net, haha and our goals were nothing but skill, even the goal tevez scored was due to a mistake but tevez did work hard to get to that ball.

We showed that Argentina is world class and we're second to NONE! Gracias muchachos, you have brought that joy back to me especially after that B.S era with Maradona. Y Messi finally you got rid of that damn curse and scored such a beautiful goal CON CLASE! This is only the beginning i see of a new and successfull era for our country's NT.

    Te amo Argentina! Dale campeon!!!

Even with a mad coach as Maradona we we able to reach so far as the quartersfinals I do not think any nation could have done that with Maradona as their coach imagine if this team yesterday was there I smell Copa victory well done boys and Batista so long Maradona

  • Brigie9

I remember Romero in the under 20 world cup 2007 I love him and he made some stupendous saves .I have faith in him he did make some good saves yesterday :)

  • http://twitter.com/ssg10 sani gosali

can someone post the roster in that game? i missed it. also, who was the playmaker?

  • Diego86

    Within the last two decades,

    - France had a very talented squad, and they won Euro and World champions.
    - Brazil similar won 2 WCs, many copas
    - Spain like France 1 WC and 1 Euro

Argentina always had a talented squad, and even now extremely talented but won nothing in the last 16 years. Grondona might not need money anymore, and Maradona was a big lesson for him to see which one is more important and meaningful!

    have fun :)

  • roroda

guys me_fab and rolandman I don't know about other candidates but be sure that no one accept Diego again there are some shitheads in AFA but not this much.so relax.

  • rolandman99

Bilardo already stated, the 3 candidates are

    1. Batista
    2. Russo
    3. Sabella

    Good…no Diego there :)

It seems that Batista will get the contract only until 2011 (after Copa). And here what is Batista said

“I want a contract until 2014 and not until the Copa America. The project must be long term and not here eight months. But if the Executive Committee decides otherwise, I will accept without problems”.

  • RiverPlateElMasGrande

I'm just proud of our NT and new DT Batista and the progress they have shown in as little as these 2 friendly matches i can't wait to see the next 2 matches against Japan & Brazil. I know we have the talent and now that our Midfield and Defence is alot more secure and with the creativity in the Midfield we can punish any team out there. I support Batista at this point and hope that he retains the position until 2014 we need the stability in the coaching dept. and the player dept.

AFA please see the light and make the right decision for Argentina and its people! Forget money & greed for just one damn second and make the right choice!!!!

  • http://argentina.worldcupblog.org Watch_10

    Some comments from Batista

    http://www.goal.com/en/news/585/argentina/2010/09/08/2109759/argentinas-sergio-batista-we-would-have-beaten-a-full

Regarding the thing that was missing in our playing 11 Cambiasso, leadership..

“Cambiasso orders you, he is a coach on the pitch and he knows when to pass into attack and when to defend”

Although I think someone has to give way, since playing Masche-Banega-Cambiasso will not be playing all the games, you play an attacking midfielder and thats it we put Aguero/Tevez/DiMaria in the bench.

If we play these 3 we will need a more athletic leftback or right back. Heinze / Zanetti will not be enough (aGE!!!!) to give balance to the attack and defense.

I seriously need to know what is making the coaches overlook Ansaldi. Just why?

  • AURELIUS1

Playing in certain leagues seems to be the case.

I hope Ansaldi moves to Spain in January ASAP. Cavegol wasted time in the RPL and Bertoglio has made a poor move. The league is of a good standard but seems to get overlooked.

    Biglia also needs to move.

  • Argentum_IND

Congratulations to all my friends here, whole of Argentina and Argentina football lovers worldover for this historic win!

Few days back in off discussions here, I emphasized the need of keeping the right blend of experience and youth in the current Argentine team. Today I am trying to set some ground rules for taking the game ahead….remember we are embarking on the journey to set the new world order in which Argentina is Numero Uno!

What we are absolutely done with..

    1. “Maradona – the coach”: Dumb coach in a miraculous player who believed more in his post match “win-hugs” and “than deploying the right tactics at the right places! Enough was enough!

    2. Error formations: Who in the modern football plays 4-4-2 like the way we were forced to play in South Africa?? And that too when your middle 4 dont know what exactly is their role – whether they should possess and hold or pass and attack ! And when your back 4 fall like pack of cards all over the place when there is an attack? Argentina needed a very new kind of formation called 'trans'-formation!

    3. Lionel Messi being played as “playmaker”, give us a break! – He's a pure play Striker and not a midfielder! : For god sake let him do what he does best – magic with ball on his feet with scarce spaces and tough defense, relax, sit back and watch him drill into oppositions' defense..and score goals! Stop finding a Veron or a Riquelme in him.

    4. Selections based on “comfort-in-the-closed-trusted-circle” rather than talent and experience : Zanettis, Riqulemes and Cambiassos of the world are institutions in themselves – such big talents shouldn't have been ignored. Wrong selection has cost us our 3rd WC!

    5. Continued classical “Grodonismo mafioso”….dont have words to expose this!

What we must look forward to…

    1. End the “probation period”: For heaven's sake appoint a permanent coach! Batista is good and so are Sabella, Rosso or Bianchi but appoint one of them as a permanent coach who can deploy shrewd tactics, formations and astute selections! Its been over 2 months since that doomed day in July but we still are “un-decided” on this! Ridiculous!

    2. The Classic Argentine Cocktail: Mix experience (Zanetti, Cambiasso, Riquelme, Samuel) with the youth (Insua, Banega, Pastore, Zarate), shake well and enjoy the kick!

    3. Run the relay: Let the experienced pass the baton to the youngsters when they're ready. Batista dared to do what Maradona didn't – run the relay, forget about short quick sprints. The result is in front of the world – keep the right balance, pass the baton in a proper way!

    4. Pride in White & Sky Blue: This is not just for the players but for the fans too all across the world who love Argentina and Argentina Football. The players are playing for us, lets stand with them through this re-development and re-configuration phase.

    5. Last but not the least: Murder Grondona! Lets plan, how!

  • Albo1

    A couple of comments.
Messi, Iguain, Tevez, Agüero. They all scored. That's a good sign that shows we don't depend on 1 or 2 players.
The best play of the game ended up 1 or 2 centimeters wide right.
This time Messi and Tevez went deep back to help on defence and Cambiasso and Banega could find our forwards more often.
    Tevez: 1 goal, 2 assists.

  • me_fab

banega was amazing…just dl the game

  • argentuban

    3. Four players on the pitch were not in even in South Africa.
    4. There was a midfield.
    5. There was a competent right back.

  • rolandman99

The team still need to be tested by Brazil. If you see carefully, this is not a really new team. THIS IS COCO BASILE TEAM in Copa America 2007 (The difference only :Gago <– Banega, Higuain <– Crespo and Batista plays three DMs, Basile only 2 DM and one Attacking Midfielder (Riquelme)).

Will Brazil thrash them away again (3-0….)

Let see how they play against Brazil :)

Still hurt if I remember how Brazil thrash us in Copa 2004, Cofed Cup 2005, and Copa 2007 finals. Three finals but no titles. The main point is our enemy is not Spain, but Brazil. Using Basile's team, we can thrash Spain 4-1. How about Brazil?

  • http://argentina.worldcupblog.org Watch_10

Why is it Basile's team just because most of them is playing since then?

Why not Pekerman's team ?? all came thru the ranks of youth teams that played the style and flow as put by Pekerman/Tocalli.

I dont think its anyone's team, it had the correct balance and the balance has to be slowly tilted towards the youngesters.

It do not matter its Brazil or Germany or Honduras, what matters is team selection and tactics and learning…. if all these goes well we are going to rise to the top.

  • Albo1

Javier Pastore was the player that Angel Cappa admired so much.
Cappa modeled him and made him a fantastic enganche.
Huracan were a great side to see in action. with their “tiki tiki” or like they say in Spain,” tiki taka”, (possesion, short passes, everything we like in football).
Today Cappa is River Plate's coach and has a handful with that, and Pastore is playing for Palermo, thousands of miles away.

Yet, Angel Cappa sends email to Javier with a critique of his performance after every game.
Javier Pastore feels elated. He says “I'm such a lucky guy, I keep learning from that man”

  • rolandman99

“Why not Pekerman's team ??” —> The most recent coach was Basile (not to count Maradona, he is a cheerleader, not a coach)

“It do not matter its Brazil or Germany or Honduras, what matters is team selection and tactics and learning….” –> Three different coaches (Bielsa, Pekermen, Basile), and all thrashed by Brazil. No matter how you play good style, history only count the champions. Brazil won 9 titles (two world cups, three confed cups, four copa americas) since we won our last international title (Copa 1993)

That's why I said the team need to be tested by Brazil. I think Spain, Germany, England, France, etc, we can easily thrash them away….but Brazil ??? Maybe we can win but often only on not very important match (except the 1990 WC Round of 16).

I don't know why other team like Norway or Netherlands can easily beat Brazil, but we can not.

I really hope Batista can do different thing this time.

  • http://argentina.worldcupblog.org Watch_10

My view point even if we win Brazil in friendly , what matters is how you play and how you win. Finaly it will matter what happens in copa '11, even if its chile in Final we should win it.

And then in WC '14 even if its Uruguay/Brazil we should win it.

If we try to win against brazil in qatar with no importance to learning and building then we will be happy for a while and then the wait for the fate in copa.

  • Amitsingh_22

That really is a sign of a great coach..thx for the info Albo..

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Amlan-Talukder/660792897 Amlan Talukder

I think you can find a requelme or veron in the form of Carlos Tevez. What do you think???

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Amlan-Talukder/660792897 Amlan Talukder

I think you can find a requelme or veron in the form of Carlos Tevez. What do you think???

  • AURELIUS1

Just to add to this both were born in Bahia Blanca. Cappa was also an attacking midfielder and like Pastore a basketballer which helps with spatial awareness on the pitch.

Cappa could really empathize with him. Now Angel is doing the same with the kids at River and esp.with young Lanzini.

I'd love to see Angel and Martino coach the seleccion.

As for Pastore he likes to learn as he said of his current coach at Palermo Delio Rossi has improved him tactically and in terms of defensive duties as well.

  • El_Diez

Who is better among Russo, Bianchi & Sabella? Will these who are coaching club teams will ideal for a NT? For Arg NT it shouldnt be a problem as there is no dearth of talents.

Is it better to stick with Batista itself?

  • Argentinaaa2

    What else I would want?

That was amazingly sick…..4 of my best strikers scored in one game: Messi, Higuain, Tevez, and Aguero.

I will remember this game for the rest of my life. I don't care if it was friendly or not, that was superior performance from Argentina, and yes Spain sucked and sunk.

Who said Tevez's goal was a gift? look, a good striker always keeps his eyes on the GK's error to hit the net, and Tevez not only run like a superman, in fact he went the extra mile by stretching his leg more than any human being can afford and gave a forcefull shot with the tips of his toes to let the ball land in the net and erase any hope left for the Spanish team. Tevez assisted in two goals and scored one, what a palyer? he's a fighter.

Messi, enough has been said, and his goal was a punch in the face, and that was a deadly attack. Higuain, his speed and his technique in tricking both the defence and the GK was absolutely amazing. Aguero, with a limited playtime, he can be a scorer and dangerous till the last second of the game. Also, who said Heinze is old when he's still can feed our strikers with a golden pass to score a goal.

Ok, that is the performance I was talking about. Let's see how our game against Brazil will go, and I hope we will play with the same squad. Cambiasso and Banega were flawless.

  • http://argentina.worldcupblog.org Watch_10

The last clinical striker we had in NT was Crespo since then none.

  • http://argentina.worldcupblog.org Watch_10

Andrés D'Alessandro impacted the game in shortest of time anyone would have got on pitch,

His pass to Heinze after putting the defenders flat footed was amazing. His run inside the penalty area moved the defender towards him leaving Aguero unmarked.

Although heinze, Zanetti gave a good performance the fact of time is

    all are getting old.

Heinze, Zanetti, G Milito all need their replacements ready.

Ansaldi, Angeleri, Forlin, Garay , Fazio, Pareja, Burdisso, Insua etc etc there are many for short term as well as long term replacements.

In competitive games the team who win based on opponents weakness will find a loophole in the defensive organisation and that then will be too late.

May be Batista's approach is to change from front to back, while most coaches change from back to front since defensive system takes most time to learn with NT.

  • mascherano350

Argentinaaa2, u are correct about tevez goal…had he been a fraction of a second late, it would not have been a goal…he is indeed a hardworking footballer…

  • me_fab

i think batista has proven worthy of a 4 year deal…beating the world champs 2 months after they just became world champs

you will see…we will win a lot now…it may be our time

  • Albo1

Watching Rogelio Funes Mori (remember that name) play alongside Burrito Ortega is refreshing. It makes us believe River is back in the thick of it. Boca is back as well, after a difficult win in Bahia Blanca. Boca features 2 strikers, Palermo (1 goal, 2 assists) and Viatri (1 goal).
Funes Mori could soon become a super star.

  • Brigie9

    Thank You so much :)

  • Brigie9

Ok fine but I see potential in Higuain he can be the next Batigol although no one can rocket a shot like Batigol oh how I miss him at least he can start coaching the juniors so i can see him again I miss him

  • Argentinaaa2

As much as I'm happy with our team winning over Spain, I'm disappointed with the media for ignoring this win, and I didn't see enough headlines about this victory and thrashing the world champions. I wonder, if that was opposite and we were conceded 4 goals in that game, the media probably won't stop publishing articles about Spain's victory in a friendly game, same happend to Spain's draw against Mexico…..it was ignored same way sadly. World Champions should show good performances for the few months after the cup at least to justify the title they earned. I guess there is always an exception “excuse” made for Europain teams when it comes to soccer.

  • Argentinaaa2

Exactly, also Tevez wasn't too close to the GK, but he ran immediately and shot the ball from a dead angle while falling on his back….lol, that was totally sick despite the fact he got injured earlier during the game.

I think including him in that game was super smart from Batista I must admit, Although I didn't like his tactics of the game against Ireland, but with this game he redeemed himself…..I mean come on, 4 goals against the world champions is a big deal and a huge victory our team wants for motivation and continuation of success. For the first time I saw all the players fighting for the win, and I said it before, they didn't want to play against Germany, they quit the game after 10 min, but I saw a different team with Spain. I just hope that Tevez will last and be included in the next world cup.

  • mascherano350

But in an interview which he gave after this match, he has told it seems that his mind is not 100% into football now…he was too upset after we crashed out of the WC…it still rankles me…wat a tragedy…a great team but with a cheerleader in charge, what could we do???? anyway..as u told lets hope he comes back mentally fit and be there for the the next WC ….
    cheers amigo…
    Go go Argentina!!!!….

  • AURELIUS1

Well they say he is comparable to Higuain. And good to see Viatri coming back to the form of a season back when I held high hopes for him.

Cappa is a excellent coach. When his club career is over he should be appointed director of youth coaching within the AFA.

  • rolandman99

Because it is only a friendly. If Spain beat Argentina, I think the media will not do as you said. They will write “Argentina beaten by the World Champions”. Nothing special because Spain is the World Champ. Whether you like it or not, Spain is still the World Champions now until 2014 even Argentina or other teams beat them 100-0 on friendly.

I say these things not because I do not support Argentina. Argentina will always be my favorite team. I just do not why our team start to blow up win on a meaningless friendly, but when it come to real tournament, they just lost…..very sad.

Maybe some analysts are right. Our team does not have enough good mentality (and luck, of course) to endure for 6 or 7 games in sequence :( I hope we can win the Copa 2011. For 18 years, we have not won any major tournament for senior side

  • me_fab

i think the elation for me does not mostly come from beating the world champs…that is simply a great bonus

    to me

its the end of the maradona nightmare and before that the basile failure
it marks a new era for us the era of batista

see youth coaches have known the players from time and they follow the same system, the youth system is meant to make grade A Argentine players…and what more success has Argentina seen then with the youth? its about continuing with the plan

batista said he would like to copy how spain play…that is BS he said that to be polite..Spain copied how Argentina play and we showed them who is the best at it remember 2006 and our youth world cup wins

we have suffered much, but i whole heatedly believe that will come to an end now

  • Albo1

Banega injured (ankle) out for a month.
He'll miss the friendly against Japan.
    Bummer

  • roroda

what happened to my comment?OK I repeat, check this:
    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/460963-the-future-of-the-argentina-national-team-lies-with-river-plate
I hope that Passarella let Cappa do his job and don't change him so he can build these kids.
I have high hopes for them.

  • chalz

can any dear fren here paste a link or guide me to a website where i can watch or download the full 'spain-argentina match'. . . pls pls pls

  • ClaudioLopez_7

Great article! Just gives us more hope for the future

  • Albo1

Nice to see you after a long time, Amitsingh

  • me_fab

i heard that pastore is being linked with everyone basically and that man city may be the lucky ones

i read this in an article in clarin, apparently he has heaped praise from messi, maradona, mourinho etc…this kid is the real deal

  • RiverPlateElMasGrande

Albo1 quote: “Watching Rogelio Funes Mori (remember that name) play alongside Burrito Ortega is refreshing. It makes us believe River is back in the thick of it.”

I know Albo i love seeing our team under Cappa isn't it so amazing when corruption is mostly out of CARP and there is only interest in building a great future for our RIVER PLATE i love what Passarella is doing and i hope he keeps Cappa and I love how Mori is playing alonside El Burrito Ortega, Man i wish ortega was younger he really is “un maestro”!

Now also i wanted to touch on Banega being injured now hopefully Batista will start playing Pastore as we need him to gel with the team and learn to make plays and feed the strikers we have with some nice passes. I can't wait to take on Brazil!

  • Maxi Lopez

Zidane is according to what I saw with my eyes at the stadium, the best player since I'm born. Pastore is a pure diamond. He's incredible. If someone can reach Zizou's level, it has to be this kid. He's so wonderful to watch. He dances on the field in a similar way (maybe even more relaxed!) and reminds me of Aimar & Riquelme at the same time. Pastore is my favorite player although I've seen so little about him. If the football system destroys him, I'll definitely stop watching the game.

    RIVERPLATEELMASGRANDE,

I hope River comes back from hell soon because futbol is not the same without our club, amigo.

  • Albo1

RiverPlateElMasGrande, in all honesty I am not a fan of River Plate. Soy bostero.
But I'm a fan of great players (jugadores de buen pie), and always enjoyed watching players like Alonso, Franccescoli, Ortega, and so many more.
I also love watching up-and-coming young players who could become super stars.
And Funes Mori definitely deserves our attention.

Talking about River Plate, two comments, one good and one bad:
The good one is: Carrizo is getting back in real good form!
The bad one is: Buonanotte has not been the same player after that horrible car accident where his 3 friends died and he was driving.
He's got a lot of law suit stuff to deal with and his game has suffered to the point people wonder if he'll ever be able to play the way he used to.
    Viva el buen futbol !!!

  • RiverPlateElMasGrande

Maxi – I know what your saying amigo River has gone through so much corruption these past years i almost stopped watching for a little bit but now things are being done better and correctly and we need to keep doing what we're doing to be successfull and at the top again! you are correct in saying futbol is not the same without River Plate! VAMOS RIVER!!!

All i wanna see in this next match up is Pastore or Riquelme in the MF added to our NT! Please add them to our squad and you will see how we DESTROY Brazil and show them Argentina is BACK! Don't worry boys have faith that we will be at the top of the FIFA World Standings again!

  • me_fab

i wouldn't worry, i guarantee pastore will be in our NT eventually

    just a matter of time

  • Amitsingh_22

Boy, i hate this Disqus thing..it has sucked the life out of this blog..i cannot stand it.

  • RiverPlateElMasGrande

me_fab – ya i know Pastore will be in the NT lineup eventually he is gonna play a major key role in the next 2014 WC i can feel it already.

  • roroda

Di Maria was great to night if he keeps this form he will be always in the line up for Real he is by miles better than Pedro Leon.just need to concentrate more when he shoots.

  • chalz

thnxkzzz a lot roroda . . . yes disqus is quite peculiar but v cant do anything as its here to stay. daryl has the final say here. But i sure love this blog so much

Talk about diversity of fanatism in football.
Second division “Mersid Idman” (Turkey) coach Yuksel Yesilova got stubbed twice by his own brother (!) who came down from his seat and viciously attacked him.
    Yup, his own brother.

No doubt, there's a million ways to be a football fan.

  • ajNYHC

Macherano is going to be a tremendous asset for the next few years. He's learning more in Barca, not just defensively but how to start plays. His interview here:

Just heard on BBC that last year Argentina exported over 1000 players, that's 300 more than Brazil. That is one more reason why we ought to win the World Cup in 2014!

  • RiverPlateElMasGrande

wow 1000 players exported from Argentina thats an amazing statistic and great for our nation. There is no way that Brazil sends out more talent than us and the only reason they have 3 more WC's than us is because of that F*ggot pele and his ass kissing to FIFA. Good job suckin d*ck pele! haha I'm happy with our 2 WC's because i know we will get more in the near future and we can proudly say that we never kissed NOBODY's ASS to get our WC's!!!

    VAMOS ARGENTINA!!! AGUANTE!!!

  • Albo1

More even so if we count population as a parameter.
Argentina has 40 million people, Brazil has 200 million.
For each good football player from Argentina, Brazil should have 5.
Does Brazil have five times the number of Argie good players?
    Nope. Not even close.

  • ClaudioLopez_7

    Let's go, let's go Argentina,
We are going, we are going to win,
    for these raucous supporters,
won't stop, won't stop cheering for you.

  • ClaudioLopez_7

Thats what impressed me too! Per capita we are well ahead even if we sent 300 less than Brazil because Brazil has a population 5 times more than Argentina. That means they have to export 5000 players a year which is impossible!

  • ClaudioLopez_7

  • ClaudioLopez_7

Speaking to La Nacion, Batista announced this. Isn't it good news!

  • Krish9

Hi Claudio – what about these players ? have they been mentioned by Batista ?

  • ClaudioLopez_7

Yes … he said he will use them for the Japan friendly.

  • chalz

Aimar is one special player that we all would never forget in our lifetime . . . sad that he didn get much chances of playing in a world cup.

    .

Aimar along with Andres D'Alssandro and Juan Roman Riquelme are forgotten gems in the world football.

  • chalz

Is Batista gonna play the traditional style of Argentine soccer – 'playing with an enganche'? or is he gonna be defensive and boring? . . .

    .

i think Xavi Hernandez was the turning point in Spain's soccer (and thzt why they won the world cup, but they also had a golden generation players who complimented him perfectly like iker casilas, carlos puyol, gerard pique, sergio ramos, marcos senna, xabi alonso, xavi hernandez, andres iniesta, david villa, david silva, fernando torres, sergio busquests, pedro, jesus navas etc.) . . . but Xavi was the playmaker or enganche for them or even the engine for the team we can say.

    .

Likewise we do need a enganche for our team in the build-up to 2014 or the copa america.

I think Pablo Aimar, Andres D'Alssandro and Juan Roman Riquelme are long past generation and we should move on starting with Javier Pastore and hopefully bright new talents.

  • me_fab

    http://www.clarin.com/deportes/Diego-Kirchner-Seleccion-ofrecerian-politico_0_337166573.html

maradona wants the president of argentina to get involved to make him coach again ahahahha

  • meralli

Great to hear. But why isn't Javier Pastore mentioned anywhere so far.

  • chalz

fab, can u translate the text for us? v'r just as interested to know what maradona wants do with the national team….

  • me_fab

he basically asked the president to supersede grondona and make him coach again

fortunately they wont be doing that and instead may give him a frivolous “position” in the government

  • me_fab

now maradona is saying he will change his people in order to be coach

please god dont let him be coach again

  • chalz

Maradona won a cup for us and lost a cup for us – so tallied!!!!! (1986 vs 2010)

    .

He should have lived with that superb fame he got in his home country and the world. But his ego got over of him when he was choosing the players for his team 2010 . . . and went with some below-class players and was finally thrown out of the seat due to his own stupidity. (ofcourse gordona was wrong in selecting him in first place) . . . now he wants to stage a comeback!!!!!!

never mind maradona 'you can well forget it, or maybe go take some coaching experience and come back' (coz u are still special in our hearts and v all wont deny it forsure) But now v dont need u near the NT!!!

    .

Maradona's stupidity was first recognised by Riquelme and quit imm. and the others realised later (some expressed but some didnt in fear that they also will be thrown out)

    .

Maradona is too emotional to be a coach – he is unlike Jose Mourinho or Joachim Leow or Guardiola . . .

    .

maradona – v have moved on . . . u also pls move on (v have put aside 2010 and v are as Argentine fans looking forward to 2011 and 2014)

  • AURELIUS1

Well that is good to hear. I like that sort of attitude. The youth need to be blooded in defence.

  • Albo1

Aleti-Barça looks like it's gonna be a good one.

  • Albo1

Messi, Messi, oh grande Messi !!!

  • me_fab

    messi injured

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Amlan-Talukder/660792897 Amlan Talukder

Please let us know about the latest update about the injury of lionel messi. Is it that serious as it looked like???

  • AURELIUS1

Severe bruising and damage to the ankle ligaments. No break.

Two weeks minimum recovery. Ujafalusi should be banned for several games. A disgraceful late challenge with studs up and no intention to win the ball.

    Sheer thuggery.

  • chalz

Is Pekerman and Tocalli not in coaching business as yet? what are they doing now?

  • skywalker

this is as painful as it gets

(throw back in the two 't's as disqus blocks links)

    Messi is very lucky

  • Albo1

Clarin and La Nacion report Messi will be out only for 10 days.
He should be back by the end of the month.

  • Maxi Lopez

ARGENTUBAN and myself have had the same kind of injury, and we needed at least 3 months to recover. These futbol professionals are so lucky…

  • argentuban

It would appear that Maradona will be returning as coach.

I feel like I am in the Twilight Zone.

  • Albo1

Batista will call Nico Gaitan and Javier Pastore for the friendly against Japan.

  • chalz

but i beleive thzt the end of maradona'z coaching career . . . even clubs wouldn offer him and if they did – bye and tata to that club!!!!!!!!!!! . . . but in truth 'maradona'z tryst with coaching is over and over for good' . . . maybe he might be some director or some advisor in some clubs or country football in the near future. . .

    .

but the big question is if pekerman and tocalli would return to argentina NT once again?

  • AURELIUS1

It's just a media story. There is no chance of him returning. These stories keep appearing all the time.

After Batista's sucess esp.against Spain the public would not stand for it.

Last week he was ready to take on the Portugual job.

  • me_fab

im pretty sure maradona wont be coach again

what does it say when you lose 4-0 against the first good team you face in a quarter final after bilardo tells you you are gonna get mulched

and then to top it off, batista comes in recalls the 2 players Argentina desperately needed and BAM we beat the world champs in convincing fashion
that made Maradona more of a laughing stock than before

if the AFA make maradona coach again the people will riot in the streets and the world media will laugh histeriacally at the AFA and argentina

i would not worry about it

angeleri coming in as well i heard…good news for that one guy who has a crush on him or something always asking for him to be on the team haha

pastore is back and i dont know much about gaitan…any info on him would be appreciated thanks

  • Albo1

Nicolas “Nico” Gaitán (Benfica, I believe) is a good attacking midfielder. Formerly with Boca, Nico can play the enganche or the 8. He's a good lefty who also takes kicks on goal from 20 to 30 meters away.
I imagine Nico as a possible bench man for Pastore.

  • chalz

Argentina – The country despite its immense talents and skills in soccer is yet to win a world cup after almost 25 yrs? cant beleive it

  • Rune1

Great to here that Gaitan will be included in the squad. I love players like him. So elegant and and good on the ball. And Pastore? What a player he's going to be, he is already a pure joy to watch.

  • Maxi Lopez

    Milito +2

    Crespo +1

    Maxi Lopez +1

    Bergessio +1

Barrios +2 (still an argie to me)

    Our strikers are on fire!

    Silvestre +1

    RUNE,

Watch Pastore tomorrow against la Juve!

  • skywalker

It's funny how since the 10 minute cameo vs. Greece, we are now fully behind Pastore being given the keys to our offense.

In Barca, Messi is not the supplier, but the component that makes Barca lethal by having an element of freedom about his game and not specified to a role. In Argentina, he has to collect the ball, distribute it, run at opposing defences, score, provide assists.

I think Pastore changes all that for Messi in the NT. To utilize an overused phrase, he is our Xavi. No longer will Messi have to claw back and start his moves near the half way line. Also, if Banega plays behind Pastore, that will make Pastore that much better and in turn, I think we will start to see the best of Messi in the NT colours.

  • chalz

So much talent but our foolish maradona left them back and flew to south africa empty handed and came back empty-handed!!!

    .

so many what if's for world cup 2010 . . . v could have done it but alas what a blunder for maradona to come into the scene and spoil the party . . . just wondering what if pekerman or tocalli had taken over after alfio basile left the NT.

  • ClaudioLopez_7

    This is the squad for next month's friendly;
Goalkeepers: Oscar Ustari (Getafe), Mariano Andujar (Catania), Sergio Romero (AZ Alkmaar)

Defenders: Gabriel Milito (Barcelona), Javier Zanetti (Inter), Walter Samuel (Inter), Nicolas Burdisso (Roma), Pablo Zabaleta (Manchester City), Martin Demichelis (Bayern Munich), Gabriel Heinze (Olympique Marseille)

Midfielders: Angel Di Maria (Real Madrid), Fernando Gago (Real Madrid), Javier Mascherano (Barcelona), Jose Sosa (Napoli), Esteban Cambiasso (Inter), Mario Bolatti (Fiorentina), Javier Pastore (Palermo), Andres D’Alessandro (Internacional), Nicolas Gaitan (Benfica)

Forwards: Gonzalo Higuain (Real Madrid), Lionel Messi (Barcelona), Sergio Aguero (Atletico Madrid), Diego Milito, (Inter), Ezequiel Lavezzi (Napoli), Carlos Tevez (Manchester City)

  • ClaudioLopez_7

I honestly don't like the defense its too old!

  • ClaudioLopez_7

    He delivered!

  • Krish9

Pastore was simply brilliant against Juve..I agree 100% with SKY – he is the key we need to unlock our full potential..Messi is the force that will break doors down.

Please please..the people of Argentina – do something to prevent Maradona from coming back as a coach – come to think of it, this is the really our Golden generation and it will all be laid to waste with the madman in charge.

We always had good teams with the likes of Crespo, Riquelme etc, but when will we next have the likes of Messi, Pastore, Di Maria, Higuain, Augero at the peak of their powers all in the one team ?

I dont think we ever had so much attacking talent all at once.

2014 is ours to take..only if the thugs at the AFA headquarters get it right this time

  • Argentinaaa2

Where is Banega? how come he's not included? he's better than Gago.

  • rolandman99

Banega is injured. Before complaining why not include this or that. Please do a search first or dircetly to the player's club website (for Banega, take a look in Valencia website).

Batista is not crazy like Maradona :)

  • rolandman99

It's difficult to field many youngsters like Garay, Fazio, Pareja, etc. Argentina should bring their star players (Zanetti, Messi, etc). According to the contract between Japan FA and AFA, if they don't bring Messi, AFA will get a pay less…….I think all this friendly games is a business, except against Brazil, where in the contract, it should be players from the Argentina League (or only local players)

Don't worry too much. Even if Batista stay as the coach, we will see these “old” defense at least until Copa America. After Copa, we can see Garya, Fazio, Pareja, Ansaldi, or maybe other younger defense

  • Maxi Lopez

The kid was magnificent yesterday against la Juve. So wonderful to watch. Pastore is ultra relaxed, it is one of his great strenght but also a bit of a weakness. He's so funny because yesterday, I was watching the game (only because of his presence, first game watched since WC) with someone. I had spoken so many times about Pastore as the “new Zidane” that when Pastore lost the ball and was responsible of a big opportunity for la Juve, we started to laugh. We laughed even more when 2 seconds later, Pastore scored the first (”goool!”). Pastore could have scored 3 gols minimum yesterday. He creates chances in such an easy manner. Not because he dribbles like Messi, runs like Walcott, shoots like Lampard, uses his body like Ibrahimovic. He creates with his brain only. Pure futbol. Pastore is learning and developping. Step by step. At Palermo, he's at 50% of his potential.

  • Maxi Lopez

I hate whatever AFA does. Batista is a muppet and he sadly has no other choice. Like ARGENTUBAN, I am starting to feel Maradona's presence. With AFA, you never know…

Messi and Samuel are injured and still on the list tough. The Japanese federation gives 200 000 € to the mafioso to assure Messi's presence so I suppose that the pigs at AFA are hungry enough to accept.

Batista said he was gonna include many young players for this game. Samuel, Heinze, for example, are still around. Our defence is old. This game was the opportunity to test and give experience to Otamendi or Forlin, etc.

What is the point to organize a friendly in Japan? This kind of friendly, so far from Europe, kills the organism (poor Pupi) or the mental of some boys (Tevez!). Milito for example, won't even play but is still invited for a long and tiring trip by plane. Well, Grondona's health seems more important.

Our management is disastrous and retarded. It's the only reason why we fail at the highest level, sorry to say the truth.

  • rolandman99

Hahahaha…like it. As I said before those friendly games are all business. You have to bring all your star players according to the contract, if not, you will get paid less…..

No chance for young players here (not young actually, more precisely, new players), because Messi, Higuain, Gago, Di Maria, Aguero, Zabaleta are all young (< 25 or 25 y.o)

  • skywalker

you're absolutely spot on Maxi.. and this circus will sadly never end. Messi should demand that extra 200K payment be distributed to the local clubs and youth academy and not to line the mafioso's pockets.

Krish9 and Maxi – right about Pastore, he was really something vs. Juve.

you know what really catches the eye about Pastore: he has so much time on the ball. In lower leagues, you can tell which players have skill, stamina, speed, etc… but only at the top level (where the game truly speeds up), can you judge if the player has the 'brain' for football. Well said Maxi about that point. And likewise, this is Pastore's best attribute.

Comparing modern day players in terms of their panache with the ball, Messi is in a class on his own, Ronnie at his peak had impeccable vision and guile, Zidane towered over everyone. Pastore to me is almost on Cantona type level right now when the later first broke into the premiership. Arrogance, mixed with moxie and supreme confidence, Pastore reminds me a lot of Cantona. Hopefully, he develops his game as he still has a long way to go.

  • AURELIUS1

Forget the Maradona talk. There is no way he can come back. The public esp. after seeig a 4-1 win over Spain would stand for it.

Maradona should have some shame if he is indeed trying to persuade the Kirchners to give him his position back.

I don't believe the paper talk for a minute. Batista will get the job probably after the Copa if we win it.

If not then the likes of Cappa, Martino, Sabella etc become the candidates.

Pastore is developing nicely from the time I really spotted him early last year. My advice to him is to stay there and keep getting regular first team football and as at Huracan be the person who runs the show along with Ilicic.

He wont get that if he moves say to Barca or Abu Dhabi United.

  • Argentinaaa2

This blog would be more fun if it doesn't have people like you here. Who the heck are you ordering me to do my search? I was asking some people who might know about Banega's exclusion, and that was all. I can't follow up with every player's injury and stuff, I do have a life and work long hours. So be respectfull when my post was not directed to you. Now, eat your own shit.

  • skywalker

I remember our discussion on Pastore which was only a few months ago. And boy, has Pastore made incredible strides since then. scary to think of the talent he has.

  • argentuban

Unfortunately, knowing Argentina, Maradona will force Batista out.

Maradona has already come out against him saying he is a nobody.

If he wants to give hsi life to coach the team again, can he pay up front? Then he can't coach the team again.

I did not mean to attack you. But as I know, you always complain and complain…(I knew it from many of your post, and even once our friend “RiverPlateElMasGrande” also criticize you of being sound negative in every of your post). So, do you think only you also have a life and long work hours? Everybody have that !!

Complain? I have no right to complain? 4-0 against Germany not long time ago, helloooooo !!!!

that was sealed in the history. no any team had a big loss in the QF since 1950's.

Ive been following Pastore for a long time now and think Palermo is the perfect place for him to play and get regular playing time.

I also believe if he were to move he should stay in Serie A, which is the best league top to bottom to play and develop your skills.
