day1star is right. Atletico don’t need another striker; they have major issues in defence, which should be addressed first. They have some very good players in their cantera that they could be used as strikers.

day1star i got my information from a site named xtratime.org which basically is a forum all about the albicelestes. the guys who post there are pretty reliable since they get their information from the ole newspaper. the only problem i have with this site is you have be a member in order to post. to answer your other questions i did not realize the list had 23 players for i didn’t count. and i am also dissapointed there is no di maria as well as oscar trejo and mauro zarate. nevertheless i think its an exciting list and i can’t wait to see them play.

I read Olé every day and I must have missed that article.
As far as I knew, the only confirmed players were Demichelis, Mascherano, Riquelme, Messi and Agüero.
I could be wrong though.

Curiosity: What type of centre-backs is Demichelis? How does he compare to past Albiceleste centre-backs? I have access to Bundesliga on GolTV, but I never seem to catch Bayern games on TV.

I think the squad is going to be announced today, isn’t it? Luckily it won’t be the final list, it’s just the list for the friendly, right?

You’re right Golazo, Gonzalo will be 24 in April. But, if we put him in as one of our over 23’s and took out either Riquelme or Mascherano, it would be good. Our defense needs to be solid. Midfield and attack are not a problem.

Dear ALBO,

My only connection with Diego Placente news is you. Thanks for giving some news about him. He is my favorite player (with Roman). I couldn’t resist to come and read your words about him. It must be wonderful to watch these guys each sunday on TV. Lucky you. I hope Placente is gonna be back in the NT. This is what Argentina is missing a lot since Sorin. I love Placente, he’s so collective (never lose a ball) aggressive, offensive, always trapped on counter attacks, so Argentine! And he won’t be that old in 2010… Anyway, thanks for posting my friend.

AFA is really doing stupid things with our team. Bringing the boys that play 100 games per year on another continent, once more, is gonna kill them. Some of you must be happy because Argentina is gonna play in your country. But players such as Messi, Mascherano, Gago or Riquelme have been in Venezuela (for la Copa), back in Europe (championships), then in Australia (Grondona $$$) and now in the USA (Grondona $$$$$$). This is ridiculous and a pity. Don’t be surprised if some get injured. I don’t think this would have happened under the Pekerman era. It confirms again and again that Basile is a muppet.

I also couldn’t resist to shout and tell to the people that were criticizing and destroying Cavenaghi that they know nothing about futbol. Cavenaghi is replacing Chamack who is gone at the African cup. And he has FINALLY got his chance. At EACH game he played, he was efficient. He played the last 4 games with Bordeaux and believe me, he is doing everything. He comes back in midfield to create and build. He makes assists, he scores (3 gols on last 4 games). His statistics are like the Trezeguet ones. Cavenaghi is excellent and i think he’ll never stop playing now.

All the kids that are going in huge clubs (such as Chelsea) are kamikazes and you could forget sooner than you think.

Unless there isn’t big news concerning Argentina, see you in June for the Brazil game.

Maxilopez, nice to see you around, guy!!!

Day1star, yes this squad is just for the friendly against Guatemala.

-a, Martin Demichelis is a tall and strong left centre back who can also play defensive midfielder. He used to play in Mascherano’s position.

Hey guys — I was thinking — what do you guys think about Basile bringing someone like Simeone on as a sort of defensive adviser for the national team?

I know that they have wildly different philosophies, and blah blah, but this might be a good way to give a young manager valuable experience, and also lend the NT much needed help on the defense, esp against international teams.

by the way - i’m wildly jealous of you guys who live in California — why are they playing that game there? Why not on the east coast?

I doubt Simeone will take time off during a congested season to be with the NT.

As for this friendly, it’s probably a weather issue, and the Guatemalan population in SoCal. I’m not sure - are there a lot of argentinos there as well?

So, he can also play defenside mid? Pretty good.

Scaloni’s time at Lazio is coming to an end, it seems. It sounds as though he’s headed back to Spain- this time Mallorca.

Simeone belongs to the Bielsa school, a more vertical game and lots of pressure defence through out the whold field.
And as Christian says, he now has his hands full with a team that needs good results from the start.

And yes, there are many Guatemalans and latino fans from many countries here in Los Angeles. The Coliseum has a capacity of about 100,000 fans and our winter temerature is about 60 degrees. :-)

How many tickets are you looking for? I literally just did a search on TM and I could order 2 for $25 plus fees. Try calling them, as I’m sure there are tickets available at that price.

You should be able to get the game on DISH Network for $25, or at JumpTV.com, though I’m not sure of the price. If neither option works, there will be a replay next Sunday on Telemundo.
