Champions League Continues This Afternoon
With a fantastic start to the 2008 Champions League yesterday, let’s hope today’s fixtures prove to be just as compelling.
With Chelsea, Inter Milan, Barcelona, and Liverpool all rolling to wins to start off their campaigns, it was Atlético Madrid who in my opinion shined brightest, with an on-fire Sergio Aguero leading the team with two goals to a 3-0 romp over PSV Eindhoven. And there was one bonafide upset with relative unknowns CFR Cluj beating AS Roma 2-1.
Today, the biggest draw will be between Manchester United and Villareal. Remeber again to view the list of Argentine players by squad here, and visit Live Soccer TV for television listings.
Group E
Man Utd v Villarreal
Celtic v AaB
Group F
Steaua Bucuresti v Bayern Munich
Lyon v Fiorentina
Group G
FC Porto v Fenerbahce
Dynamo Kiev v Arsenal
Group H
Real Madrid v BATE Borisov
Juventus v Zenit St Petersburg

man th ekids ar boca are geting to be really good…Viatri, Noir, Gaitan…
all of them scored today…

Hey John, if you wish to take a direct shot at me personally, that’s okay as I have no problems with that. I just look at this whole argument from a matured manner (and just add a lil dose of spice here and there just to make sounds interesting).
Perhaps maybe it annoys you to find out that some of us in this blog were not born or grew up in Argentina.
Aurelius, man you know stuff very well and thanks a lot for sharing with the rest of us here on all those information. The definition of “National Team” has changed dramatically during these last few years. Its not just footballers or sportsmen but even in many other profession as well. At the end of the day, it is all about the passion for a certain team, so be it club or NT.
I apologize anyway incase if anyone of you felt offended by my previous comment.
By the way, did anyone of you know that Javier ZANETTI reach a certain milestone when he took to the field in Inter’s match against Lecce. Well, to know more about please go to my blog.
http://mundoalbiceleste.blogspot.com/2008/09/another-milestone-for-zanetti.html
I would always appreciate some feedback from you guys.

Isn’t our team announced today? Brazil already did. Kaka in Ronaldinho out.

The team is supposed to announced today. No news about it – yet. Who knows.

Some good matches this weekend with Argys. Headlined by Inter vs AC milan. I think Messi will shine against espanola. I relly would like to see Higuain get a call up. He is playing well .

The u17’s won their game against Honduras 4-0, goals were scored by: Sergio Araujo
Juan Montero
Adrian Martinez
Esteban Orfano

This was their third match, having lost their opening match 2-1 and drawn in their second match 1-1 with Costa Rica, our goal being scored by Sergio Araujo. Their final fixture is on sunday against El Salvador.
Sergio Araujo looks like another gem from the Boca Juniors Academy.

There’s been plenty of rumors of the players that’ll be called up. Among the names are Lucho, Gonzalo Rodriguez, D.Milito. I think the front line will still be Messi and Aguero which I think is stupid. Anyway … just rumors so far.

I would like to see Diego Milito. I watched him a lot over the last few years. I don’t understand why certain players looks so shy/timid with the NT whereas for their clubs they are tigers. Examples
1. Diego Milito
2. Lucho Gonzalez
3. Julio Cruz
4. Lisandro Lopez
5. Fernando Cavenaghi
Its our coach, cannot make them feel at home. I have said this before, I keep saying the same thing, it frustrates me, more so most of them are #9.

what happened to the call up list?

don’t think it’s been released as yet.

list released!
Juan Pablo Carrizo (Lazio)
Sergio Romero (AZ Alkmaar)
F. Coloccini (Newcastle)
Martín Demichelis (Bayern Munich)
Gabriel Heinze (Real Madrid)
Nicolás Burdisso (Inter)
Daniel Díaz (Getafe)
Luciano Monzón (Betis)
Javier Zanetti (Inter)
Pablo Zabaleta (Manchester City)
Esteban Cambiasso (Inter)
Javier Mascherano (Liverpool)
Maxi Rodríguez (Atlético de Madrid)
Angel Di María (Benfica)
Lionel Messi (Barcelona)
Carlos Tevez (Manchester United)
Diego Milito (Genoa)
Sergio Agüero (Atlético de Madrid)
NO surprises really, but its quite strange that Basile called up so many defenders.

Sorry Christian
. Just as soon as Clarin loaded and I saw the headline I was tempted to share it with everyone here. Just by looking at the number of fullbacks he called up it seems Basile still opts for his broken 4-3-1-2 formationm instead of playing with the more favorable 3-5-1 variations.

good to see maxi back and d milito will do well

Y only 18 players?
Is he going to select 5 from Argentine League ?
I can’t understand how Burdissio and Coloccini are being selected ahead of Gonzalo Rodriguez, Garay and even Pareja or Fazio. Burdissio though can play in many poitions but Garay and GOnzalo are miles ahead of him. Colocconi also looks too nervous and make many mistakes this season for Newcastle. Argentine have some of the best CD’s but the coach dosn’t selects the best and goes for the average ones. This is why the defence looks so sloppy during the last few qualifiers. Nice to see monzon getting a call especially considering Heinze form (though he was an amazing player before the injury)
Will comment on the midfield and forward’s selection once the squad is completed

no gonzalo.no higuain,no cavenaghi,no banega,no garay.
i cant believe no gonzalo.i am so mad i wanna cry, haha.
i never asked for basile to leave but tonight i lost faith totally.
when we he introduce gonzalo,garay,higuain,cavenaghi…
give cavenaghi and lisandro atleast a game.man.
ow about this.
this players i would call up right now.
gk:carizzo,romero,ustari(if fit).
df:GONZALO,demichelis,garay,zabaleta,monzon,zanetti,fazio,coloccino/heinze
mf:messi.mascherano,gago(if fit),banega,riquelme,maxi,di maria,cambiasso,lucho,aimar
st.aguero,higuain,tevez,zarate,lavezzi,lisandro,cavenaghi
we talk formatations and tactics all day but thats not our problem!!!!!
the problem is player selectuions.
its irreleavant if we play with 352 or 41212.
basile does not select the right player that fit the formation.
this is the right way to play 4-1-2-1-2
————–carizzo—————
zabaleta—gonzalo—demi—monzon
mascherano
maxi———————–di maria
————-riquelme————-
——-messi———–higuain/cavenaghi/Aguero
i`ll post tommorrow other formations.
what i think which players should be selected in those formations.

I’m kinda with you, Fab: the problem is Argentina really can’t afford to drop any more points. Looking at that list, though, the best we can hope for is maybe a couple of 1-0 victories, 2-1, that sort of thing. There will be no repeat of the last Argentina-Uruguay home game (Pekerman’s first) where we won 4-2 and played exceptionally.
I knew he’d pick Burdisso: he’s always been a favourite of his, is ex-Boca and is now playing regularly for Inter.
Monzon’s a good inclusion but generally, I don’t like this team. Just no thought in to picking players that will blend and will be primed for 2010. I see Figueroa will sign for Boca: what odds that he is back in the team ahead of Cavenaghi and Lopez under Basile?

Poor selection onc again. Does the coach actually watch European football games ? I’m sure he does but once again forget Gonzalo & Garay or indeed Licha & FC.
No progression for 2010. If Pato was uninjured I would not be surprised to see him in this squad.
You look at Uruguay & how they are playing their promising youngsters like Eguren & Godin from Villareal for example while ours Gonzalo with another splendid performance against Manchester United are ignored.
I also feel like fab. Its the only way to see Basile removed. And no more of this nonsense well its not he behaviour of a true fan.
A true fan always wants what is best for their team no matter what the action is required to acheive it ie boycotts protests. Even if it ends up in the wrong end result the fans hearts are in the right place.
Chau amigos.

i really think basile must go, but i’m worried that the replacement will be much worse.

There are only 4 midefielders, out of which 2 are defensive ones. There is room for 5 more above 30 years Boca players. Trust me on that. I agree completely with Aurelius. I dont think Basile watches European games.
Where is
1. Lucho
2. Lisandro
3. Cavenaghi
4. Gonzalo
5. Higuain
BTW, Alfio, lets forget about Aimar. The guy can’t even play 2 games at a stretch. He gets injured. No doubt about his talent though. Its hard to reserve a place for a player who will only play 30 mins in 5 games.
I am happy to see some names like Monzon though.

Sorry guys, I had the new thread on Basile’s selection and forgot to hit Publish. New thread up now.
