Mascherano pleads ignorance over red card

Javier Mascherano still has no idea why he was sent off against Manchester United during Liverpool's 3-0 Premier League defeat at Old Trafford.

While the possibility persists that the Argentinian could yet have to serve more than the mandatory one-match ban - because he failed to leave the pitch immediately after being red-carded - Mascherano remains non-plussed over the initial reason for yesterday's dismissal.

Referee Steve Bennett had already booked him for a foul when Mascherano sought to make his feelings known to the official after Fernando Torres had also been given a yellow card.

It was then the referee gave the midfielder his second booking for dissent.

But Mascherano claimed: 'I do not know why I was sent off.

'I asked the referee what was happening. I did not swear; I was not aggressive and I did not confront him.

'All I did was ask him what was happening, nothing else.'

Mascherano, who subsequently lost his cool as he made his way off the field, told the Liverpool Echo: 'When he showed me the second yellow card and sent me off I could not believe it.

'I am sorry to my team-mates because that meant we went down to 10 men - and that made things even more difficult for us.'

Starting Midfeild with cambiassso out is most likely Mascerano and gago in the center with Lucho on the left and mazi on the right. What i would like to see is a 4 1 3 2 with mascerano in front of the defense and then Gago Maxi and Levenssi in the midfeild with Aguero and caveniggi upfront.

Well Argy of the weekend was Aguero. I will state again that Aguero can and should be a number 9 for the national team. Anyone watching the game can see that Aguero switches back and forth to the number 9 with Forlan. Most of the time he is playing a number 9 role!

ALBO,
I didn't know that Cambiasso was injured. Wow. It is VERY worrying.

Players who generally play each 3 days, Riquelme, Messi, Cambiasso are all injured in a month. Zanetti is dead each time he plays. Tevez doesn't even wanna play anymore. Fuc#... And nobody moves a single finger except Wenger, Benitez or Mourinho or Houllier in the past. The powerfull coaches never stop complaining but nobody cares. WC 2002 was the demonstration that players need to be fit to play good football. This situation is just amazing.

The clever guy is Crespo. He has always done the same at Parma, Lazio or Inter: each time he gets a new contract at his club, you don't see him unless there is an international competition or if his contract ends...

Gago was excellent yesterday. He was very dynamic and was surprisingly physically impressive.

I'm sure the Higuain fans here have seen how he played yesterday. As a winger by Schuster. Worrying for him. He never plays and when he does a little, he wastes HUGE opportunities like yesterday when he couldn't even score at 2 meters from a lying golkeeper. Higuain will maybe be a good player one day, but now he's nothing except a very marketed player since he left River. He's nothing. He needs to get out of the circus quickly.

ALBO,
I believe Manchester are absolutely over-rated. I'm sure they will be eliminated by Roma in The Champions. Roma will block the wings and use their tactical 4-5-1. The first game at Rome will be very important.

Yes ALEXA, you are right. It's better for them to learn this kind of things at their clubs. But this time, unlike Tevez or Aguero's exclusions, it made me laugh. Mascherano is pretty funny when he shows his feelings. Giants like Patrick Vieira were sent off many times in this league were players must never complain about the refering.

RUNE,
The risk is that we could never see the real Argentina if players such as Riquelme, Masche or De Michelis are never fit. Man, Tevez is even frightened to play Brazil because he's afraid of being too tired...

Hi all!
Mascherano really screwed things up yesterday. You can not run 20 meters and complain to the referee when you already have been booked. Tevez is tired and is not the same player now as he was some weeks ago. He said some months ago himself that he needs a break. I think we will see the real Tevez the next season. Aguero is such a great player. I get so impressed by him almost every time I see him play.

J-Argie, Neri Cardozo was not in his best night during Boca 2-1 Colón Santa Fé.
Dátolo was. Gracián played well too.
Great game by RONCAGLIA: (remember that name), and Monzón.
Morel is as good as they come but he belongs to Paraguay...
Don't know much about Cristian Chávez, other than: he is an 18 year old player with less than a year of experience and very few minutes played. He's a midfielder who currently subs for Gracián, who at the time subs for Riquelme.

River has been showing good football too.
And Carrizo is probably the best GK we have at the moment. Hello Coco...?
BTW, Esteban Cambiasso misses the friendly in Egypt due to injury.
