Boca and Tigre Fight For Apertura Crown Tonight
One of the most unpredictable and exciting seasons of Argentina football in recent memory will come to an end this evening when Boca Juniors and Tigre battle for the Primera championship at Racing’s El Cilindro stadium. You can watch the game live on Fox Soccer Channel at 5:30ET/2:30PT.
After Boca’s 3-1 win over San Lorenzo this past weekend eliminated el Ciclon from the 3-team playoff tournament, el xeneize only need a win, draw, or even a one-goal loss against Tigre to clinch their 23rd league title. Boca may appear on paper as the favorites, especially given Tigre’s 2-1 loss to San Lorenzo in their opening match. But they would be foolish to dismiss Tigre, who have been one of Argentina’s most exciting squads since their promotion to the top flight in 2007 under former Boca star Diego Cagna, and Boca will have to deal without Juan Román Riquelme and Fabián Vargas, both out today’s due to yellow card accumulation. Regardless, Tigre must win by at least a 2-goal margin to claim the title.

Something Off topic:
In Zaragoza the problem was unbalanced squad, Pavon partnering Ayala was a big mess, If there would be an award to be most messy CB then it would be Pavon he makes our Collocini(of this season) look fantastic.
D’Allesandro was shown the outdoor while he should have stayed and must be played. Aimar was injured and still contributed he lacked his needed target man upfront. Milito was wastefull and Olivera is one of the most selfish forwards I have ever seen.
Zaragoza had a good project that went crumbling down due to some bad purchases and lack of leadership in the club.

ALBO,
Many clubs including Arsenal prove that the 4-3-3 system with a playmaker works perfectly. An incredible number of teams used it in 2008 (Croatia, Turkey, English teams, …). I don’t agree with you because you call the 2 midfielders (in front of Mascherano) by “lateral”. Their job is to stay in midfield, quite low, defend the center and even organize the game. They must not to the 2 wingers job (who could be Messi & Aguero for us). Sorry if I repeat myself. Anyway, any system suits our players (even if we have only few decent fullbacks).
DEBASISH,
Seems that I will have to repeat myself for the 36th time ![]()
Today, Aimar and Saviola are not playing enough to be part of the NT. It would be pure nonsense and a lack of respect towards other players to select them. I don’t think dreaming about Aimar’s last comeback in a year is criminal
As I said many times before, futbol goes really fast. The ones who praised Aimar at Copa 07 or the few times he replaced retired Riquelme, are the ones that criticize him today and call him “little dolly”.
Also, excluding from a team people who are more than 27 is ridiculous.
WATCH10,
Thanks for clarifying this. I agree. Do you know what happened to powerful fullback Carlos Diogo (Uruguay) who was playing there?
PS: Logic lineups. But Zabaleta isn’t a central defender, I’m sure you didn’t do it on purpose

Maxi
No one said, age should be a factor. Aimar, Saviola all have age on their side, that’s true and I will say it for the 36th time also that if these players do make a comeback I will be most happy
. My desktop is Aimar. For last few years and have not replaced it yet, I guess its the hope. My point is about reality, I accept it also. And for the large amount of talent pool we have if some one slips a little there are plenty equally good who will grab the places. To me Saviola does not seem to be the person with much ambition. Period. Aimar had other issues we all know.

Carols Diogo.
One of the people whom my friend blames for Zaragoza demise others being Aimar and Alessandro
.
If these three would not be away from the pitch for so long then Zaragoza would be a different proposition.
I think he will move away from Zaragoza if they do not come back to La Liga next season, as of now he is still with Zaragoza.
PS: Zabaleta was put to impress english commentators

I think we all need a game. I thing I really love about us is that we do not let this place die. We keep coming.
We are about 1 month from the France game, do anyone know when we are going to announce a roster. BTW, I always felt we are more suited for a 3-5-2
—Carrizo—
Gonzalo-Demi/Samuel-Heinze
—-Mascherano-Gago—
Messi—Lucho—Maxi
—-Aguero-Higuain
Based on current form.

DEBASISH,
Sometimes, you need to be careful in what you write: “it surprises me that people still think Aimar or Saviola are the best choice for our NT, whereas criticizes Messi for not being a good enough football player”.
1) You must respect people’s favorite players
2) Everyone here agree that Messi is the best player in the world
I totally agree with you about 3-5-2. Concerning your lineup, I would like to see something close to this (Samuel instead of Heinze, Cavenaghi instead of Higuain). I’m afraid Maradona is going to favor another 4-4-2 against France because 3-5-2 isn’t the kind of system that you can work on only 2 days. Hopefully, many of our central defenders have worked on it for years, including your friend Coloccini.
Thanks WATCH10.

If I would play against france then I would play 4-3-3 , reason is that presently I dont see a midfielder that would play the tango and still be touch on opponents like in WC06. With the Rise of Messi, Lavezzi, Aguero I must play them meaning Messi or Lavezzi must come down to midfield if we place a good target man. So Instead I will put Aguero to midfield as playmaker together with Maxi while Gago will spread the passes around .
Carrizo
Zanetti-DeMichelis-Heinze(we still need this Guy)-Insua
Maxi-Mache-Gago
—-Aguero—
–Messi–Lavezzi-
—-Cavenagi—-
Why Cavenaghi firstly he is good , secondly to boost his moral he needs to start in france friendly. The Key is Zanetti should try to control his runs towards attack and when he is up there dribling Some one needs to cover that would be Mache/Gago/Maxi.
Same is for Insua but he doesnt need to restrict him self Heinze will cover together with Mache.
If both are up (Hienze dont go up ) then Mache and Gago needs to position well.
In attack Cavenagi has to position around the 3 ball providers Messi-Aguero-Lavezzi, these 3 has to play tango. They can do that we dont need one man enganche for this group of talent.
Substitution if Aguero/Lavezzi needs to be sub also sacrifice Hienze and put Gonzalo and Higuain. Move to 4-4-2.
OR Sub Zanetti, Aguero, Hienze with Gonzalo, Giuttirez, Tevez we move to 3-5-2 .
The france friendly should give us new things to see in the team.

I count 12 players in the lineup above.

Debasish i love your line up . However I dont like to see Messi haveing to cover quite that much on defense. I would rather more of his energy be reserved for the offensive attacks.
—Carrizo—
Maxi Gonzalo-Demi-Insua
—-Mascherano-Lucho-Gago
Messi—–Higuain–Aguero
Plenty of defense and offense. Both Insua and Maxi can attack with coverage by Mascerhano or Gago. If anyone here loves the way Barcelona is playing right now we have the talent to play the same system and do even better. If anyone wished Messi would play the same for the NT as he does for club here is the way to make that happen. Like I said before we have the greatest player on the planet why not build a team around him and his talents. Can you imagine the give and goes between Maxi and Messi on the right side ? Can you see the speed and ability to defend the counter with this group of players? Can you see how the goals could literly come from all ten spots ? This is the way of the future is my view. I can also see putting in lavezzi or zarate in Higuain place.

Who knows much about this kid? ESPN says he is the next great player to come out of Argentina?
Franco Zuculini – Racing Club – Argentine Primera División
With exceptionally high energy levels, the 18-year-old midfielder has been compared to Diego Simeone due to his combative style of play. Tipped by Argentine coach Diego Maradona to make a real impact on the national side by the time the 2010 World Cup comes around, he only made his debut for his club last April but has already attracted a host of scouts’ attention. His excellent passing makes him stand out, but he also has great versatility and can play across the midfield. Seen as the next big thing to come out of Argentina, it should not be long before he moves on from Racing.

Zuculini is a great young player.
He’s with the all-star U-20 that Batista will take to Venezuela.

Maxi nice line ups I think your 4 1 2 3 is basically a 4 3 3 . Do you really think that Zanetti will be up for 2010? If we do have four at teh back the two outside defenders have got to be able to push up at any given time. I am really really excited about Insua on the left. I hope he keeps his spot at Liverpool.

Sometimes is not football the reason a player doesn’t play to his best level.
That’s the case of Sebastian Battaglia who while playing for Villarreal had to deal with an unhappy wife feeling too far away from her family in Buenos Aires.
Lazio’s president, Claudio Lotito said today:
“I have been trying to get Battaglia to come and play for La Lazio for the last 2 years, but his wife has been the one who refused.
This time though it might work.
Sebas has expressed is confidence that his family won’t be an issue this time.
But this story is a good example for many players, we wonder why are they not in their best form, and the answer sometimes is in their minds, not in their shoes.

United States

That’s interesting Albo. I think we all seem to forget these guys are human just like us. Battaglia is definitely on the squad for 2010. Masch backup. I’m not sure anymore if Cambiasso would even make it into the squad now.
Posted from
United States

AJ, I agree that Battaglia is the perfect backup for Mascherano.
But I see Cambiasso and Gago as a different type of midfielders.
Like a mix of a 5 and an 8. They can take off and become temporary forwards.
Look at Cambiasso against SM back in WC06.
Battaglia on the other side is like Masche, the epitome of the low key stopper-retriever.

Cambiasso might be too slow for a #8 … I think. However Maxi, Gago and Lucho would make excellent #8s.

Young Chelsea striker Franco di Santo is facing a ‘war of words’ with his manager, Luiz Felipe Scolari, over his decision to represent his country, Argentina, in the South American Under-20 Championship, which begins in Venezuela on 19 January.
Di Santo has been selected in his country’s squad for the competition, but Scolari is reluctant to let him go because of what the Brazilian perceives as a ’striker shortage’ at Stamford Bridge. The Argentine FA have referred the matter to FIFA, which could rule that the club must let the player go.
“I spoke to Scolari and he told me that he wouldn’t let me go,” Di Santo told Argentine television yesterday.
“There are only three strikers in the squad: Didier Drogba, Nicolas Anelka and me, and he told me that he needs me to stay in London.”
Chelsea skipper John Terry is apparently backing the 19-year-old though, who continued: “I spoke to John Terry a couple of times in the last couple of days and he said I was right to want to go and play. He said I’m only on the bench and need to get minutes in the team so I get noticed. I’m always on the bench. I’ve only played eight games this season, always coming on in the last 10 or 15 minutes.”
It has been reported in Argentina that national coach Diego Maradonna may well become involved in the situation and speak to Chelsea personally in an attempt to resolve it.
“It makes me proud that Maradona is interested in my case,” Di Santo commented.
The Almeria player Pablo Piatti finds himself in an identical situation to Di Santo, causing a double headache for Argentina’s Under-20 coach, Sergio Batista.
“We are still waiting to see if Pablo Piatti and Franco di Santo can play for us. We have to wait and see what FIFA say. We are anxious for them to join us but we have to wait,” was Batista’s assessment of the situation.
