Argentina vs. Peru WORLD CUP QUALIFIER

October 1st, 2009 | By: Julian D | 581 Comments »

Well here we are guys! Let’s analyze, criticize and discuss this matchup. It will be played on October 10, at 7pm, at the River Plate stadium in Buenos Aires. So, I read somewhere that Palermo is going to start and he is going to be able to select who he would like to start with: Aguero, Tevez, or Higuain. I would like to see Messi playing behind the forwards along with Aimar. I think even with Palermo upfront we should be okay. Palermo isn’t that bad, he can still head the ball. If you watched the game against Ghana, he’s good at it! He almost had 3 goals actually. He’s playing well, I think we should give him a chance. Maradona can always substitute him.

Maradona is going to announce the squad on Wednesday. As we are used to by now, there will be surprises. I think we can win this game. I’m more worried about Uruguay as they are playing really well. Argentina futbol is in trouble, not only the national team but also local teams. Tonight alone Velez Sarsfield, and Lanus have both been eliminated from the Copa Sudamericana. What’s going on? Maradona is very nationalistic, he wants to prove something, but I don’t think it is working. In my opinion, he wants to prove that Argentina still produces great players and we don’t need Argentines playing in Europe to win.

Anyway, we just have to wait and see. There’s not much we can do right? Of course, I will be worried as hell during the game, but that’s futbol. We can just hope for the best. Hopefully our boys come out hungry and score a fast goal to get them going. I still have faith. Do you?

Okay guys, let’s have it. Enjoy yourselves and remember to be respectful on here.

-Julian

Also – playing counter may not be bad. This is how Brasil beats us all the time haha. The counter and score tho. we can counter but we have to get the balls in the net.

Remember M placed a 4-4-2 counter game against France. Let’s hope we get a similar result.

That posted line-up is much better than the one that was going around yesterday by a longshot.

guys our destiny is in our own hands. why play for a draw argentina must go for a win. how many times have we had a one goal lead and just setteled for the the other team to score. uruguay will becoming with all they got how long can we hold them off, we have one of the most fragile defences out there. if we play the counter this will all depend on messi, higuain and di maria all 3 must have a monster game. we really need to win its the only way we will be safe.

My line-up would be:
Romero
Pareja, Demichelis, Samuel, Zanetti
Mascherano
Aimar Lucho
Messi Di Maria
Higuain

Subs: Cambiasso, Tevez, Riquelme(!) if needed

Romero;
Otamendi, Schiavi, Demichelis, Heinze;
Gutiérrez, Mascherano, Verón, Di María;
Messi e Higuaín.

The above line up is not too bad, only change Schiavi for Heinze and bring in Insua for Left back. Bring on Aimar in the second half for Veron and Tevez for Di Maria. Am sure we will play somewhat better then we played against peru simply because Gutierrez will be takimg Perez’s position and he’ll surely press forward and track back like usual. We have good width on the flanks but Veron has to supply some fantastic balls for Higuain.
Somehow I feel we will score against run of play so i believe it will be on the counter for sure like we did against France!!!

Veron im sure will be in there to bring calmness, experience and leadership , just hope he can keep his cool. Again, we will play counter attack which I think looking at who Veron has next to him, Guttierez and DiMaria to attack through the sides and get the ball to Messi or Higuain, I think this will benefit us. We know Uruguay will come out with everything so why play their game, half their side will be in our area, one mistake and we have to take advantage and score every chance we get.
If we run with them we will be more vulnerable to tire ourselves out.
Our D needs to play great tomorrow – no excuses. We have one shot cos there will be no rematch for this game.
We beat France with a counter game and I think we can do the same tomorrow.

We played many big games with success in counter attack – Brasil 1990, Italy 1990, most of Copa America 1991. Lets just hope tomorrow will be one of those successful games.

Guys,

Really the team does not matter. As long as there is a plan and all players stick to the plan..we are Ok.

But is there a plan????

wow, the back line looks like a disaster waiting to happen. I cannot believe that Bilardo and the other assistants have such little influence on Maradona and the team he puts out. I mean, isn’t there anyone to tell him how flawed the above lineup is? incredible. sad to say, the best we can hope for is for Argentina to get destroyed by Uruguay but Chile covering our asses and beating Ecuador thus fulfilling two things: (a) – we get in the qualifiers (b) – real pressure to sack Maradona and replace him with anyone else (hell, I’ll take Basile back at this rate) and ensure we build some sort of system going into the knockout round and ultimately the WC.

but overall, I have a terrible, sick to my stomach feeling that Uruguay will beat us and Chile might not be able to help us. I never imagined this day coming and hate to be the pessimist and hope I’m totally wrong, but I can actually see us fail to qualify. I cannot see us even getting a draw vs Uruguay. The defense is so bad that they can rip us at the seams. what a nightmare. If Tevez hadn’t gotten the red vs Columbia, Messi missing the open net / Tevez missing the PK in the same game, last gasp draw vs Peru… woulda coulda shoulda… this is terrible. just terrible. We can use all of Blatter’s pull and have the ref do us a few favours.

goal.com has a different starting line up: No Di Maria or Aimar :(

Romero, Demichelis, Schiavi, Heinze, Otamendi, Mascherano, Gutierrez, Brana, Veron, Messi and Higuain.

The official line up looks good with exception of Veron over Aimar. I think the game would be decided by the team who attacks most, and of course converting its chances. Why not bring Veron in the second half and give Argentina the green light to attack no matter what. In the second half bring Veron, play counter attack defense. Overall I see Billardo’s signature in Maradona counter attack line up.

Like I said the last four minutes of the Peru’s game helped the team unload alot of bent up emotions, and anger. The team looks more relaxed and confident. http://momento24.com/en/2009/10/13/maradona-has-the-squad-for-tomorrows-battle/ If I were Uruguay or the British press I would be very scared now.

Expect Argentina to play their best game yet: more assertive and confident team. Watch out for Mascherano, Di Maria and Messi to have a huge game.

lol sorry. this is just the most reliable website but only problem its in spanish. its argentinas like number 1 website for news overall
the lineup is going to be
Romero
Otamendi Demichillis Schiavi Heinze
Gutierrez Mascherano Veron Di Maria
Messi Higuain

the only changes is the defense is def stronger then last games but thats jus on paper we dont kno. i love otamendi though his a hngry player n a great defender jus inexerpeicend. demichillis is our best defender. schiavi is terrible n heinze has been done for a while now. gutierrez is very good for us in midfield. veron is still a mystery to me why aimar isnt starting is still baffling me. Mascherano has been terrible id love to see battaglia from boca juniors instead his way better form right now and di maria is a monster on that left side creating problems for defenses at all times with his speed n his crosses. messi will never be a striker but well see he is due for a big game n hopefully higuain gives us another goal to celebrate. i think napolifan is right and that argentina will finally have the game every1 has been looking for. well make the world cup. dont worry.

PS: we finally have our goal keeper for the future!

Uruguay’s last match was just as uplifting as Argentina’s. Home field advantage will ruin Argentina’s chances i think.

Hello everyone.

I’ve readen almost everything except the trolling. Except that, I agree with all of you guys, RUNE, FELIPE, etc…

For years, we’ve all complained about Maradona’s disastrous call-ups. We all complained about the absence of our best enganche since Riquelme (Aimar), a true & efficient #9 (Milito, lopez, Higuain), our best central defenders (Samuel, Gonzalo), etc… But we all forgot one thing: if Maradona could call the best players of the century, the result would still be the same. That’s the big problem: AFA. The Brazilian federation is as corrupted than AFA but at least they call decent people for their coaching staff.

I don’t want to comment about Peru. A pure nightmare, from the BEGINNING (guys it was Peru…) to the END (seemed that our coach was even happier than in 86 on the grass…). The only bright moment before the virtual and real storm was when Messi & Aimar exchanged some incredible horizontal passes in the first seconds. Just to remind the fans that they belong to the same class. Pure genius.

Whatever Maradona does VS Uruguay, it isn’t important. We have no chance. No defensive/offensive preparation, players out of position, players far too old for the physical battle. We all know what are the problems. We have a “coach” who is doing exactly what should not be done, the biggest mistakes ever. I’ve never seen this. Even regarding the communication, we always tell our opponents what will be our starting team. It’s insane!

Maxi, Mascherano, Messi are our best players. ALL our boys look like clowns when they play for Maradona. I mean, Mascherano & Messi are the best players in the world! They are ghosts with the NT! Don’t be too severe AURELIUS, especially with Heinze. Our Pekerboys were wonderful in 2006 and horrible in 2009, but they are still the same human beings. Our argentinos are lost, that’s all. Maradona uses 10% of their potential and don’t know how to get more of them.

AURELIUS, HOAX,
We don’t know how to defend points. We never did. Playing the counter attack would be a mistake. We are not Brazil. Going in Uruguay with the mission to get one point and play the physical Uruguayan game will be suicide. It is what Maradona will probably ask them. That’s why we will lose.

PEOPLE,
Don’t forget that Bilardo is even more responsible about the situation than Maradona. He is an ass#ole too.

I don’t know what to say. Vamos Bielsa?

PS: For the first time, I’m going to watch Argentina on the net, so please please please, post links about the game. I feel it’s going to be the worse evening of my life as an argentinos. I’ll support Argentina forever. Good luck.

First of all, grats Argentina team! I miss Zanetti and Riquelme in the team. I don´t know how good Veron is now a days, but otherwise Argentina have a really good team. Let´s see If they will keep Maradona or they will find another coach. Cheers!
