Argentina v Chile match thread

October 13th, 2007 | By: Linda | 94 Comments »

As I said previously, I won’t be around during the match due to technical issues, but thought I’d leave a post for you guys to spam with live reactions and all that.

Well, when all’s been said and done, Basile’s men have to go out and play, and despite whatever misgivings we may have about the team - and let’s face it, us Argentina supporters are almost never content - we have to hope that they do the business against Chile and our old friend Bielsa.

Vamos Argentina!

I applaud you ortega85 for your sincere analysis. This is what Ken has been saying for a while now even before the game. Unfortunately, he has decided to longer give his comments. I went back and look at his comments. Specifically, he stated that we have world class players but not a world class team. He faults Basile because of a lack of tactics and strategy, which leads us to being predictable when we play Europeans teams. I am not interested to recount his ongoing battle with Albo. I just thought that was quite insightful for a person who apparently have never even been to Argentina!

addy,

i would love it if crespo can deliver during 2010, but i belive he will not be around …lets wait and see…i really love him, he is the best poacher in the world when he is 100% fit.

mascherano is a monster he played well even as a winger…..i was questioning the reasons behind playing him in that position…when he had belluschi on the bench. if you want to experiment…which i don’t think basile intended to……try german denis and belluschi!

what i am afraid of is that non of the qualifiers are going to test basile!! so we are going to end up with him in 2010……

it’s funny but i pray every day to see bianci coaching the NT….but with the level of the qualifiers we will see basile and only basile

Riquelme is a genius.
Messi is a rocket!
I really love to see Argentina playing but I felt that both Messi and Tevez (and sometimes even Riquelme) tried too many individual stuff against Chile when they could have given passes.
Anyway, when Argentina does the “Toque me voi” nobody can beat them.
I only wish that Barcelona could hire Riquelme. It would be insane to watch Riquelme + Ronaldinho + Messi + Eto playing together!
Go Argentina, Go Coco, you guys rule!

For those of you who think Basile is average…
Argentina KNOWS how to play and PLAYS great football. You just need to remember Copa America 2007. Argentina played like masters of football. They lost to Brazil out of PURE BAD LUCK and because Brazil played like COWARDS, destructing the game with 176 faults.
Do you remember Brasil in WC 2006? Great players and… a MESS. That shows how TERRIBLE coach Parreira is. Remember Brasil in Copa America 2006? Average players and… another EMBARRASSING MESS. Brazil just had LUCK at the finals, that’s all there is to it.
But Argentina? Argentina knows how to play, and you can see it on EVERY game. This is because the players are great but also because COCO BASILE is a master and he alows them to play the best way!

Linda, who is Rio?
Do you know him?
I’ve been coming to this blog for 1 and a half years almost everyday, and I have no idea of who he is and why does he keep mentioning my name.
Thanks in advance.

Batistuta was a mistake in 2002. Crespo would be mistake in 2010.Both Aguero and Tevez are better than Crespo.
Unfortunately, Tevez was a big waster yesterday. How he can miss chances like that ?
He does same at ManU.Only two goals from main striker. What a shame.
My vote goes for Messi+Aguero, even for Messi+ experienced Saviola, but not Tevez..

How is Crespo a waste? He’s still in good shape and he won’t have to do anything in games but poach like he normally does. He is the person you want in the box when a cross is coming in, he’s great. I really hope he plays in 2010. Saviola or Tevez or Aguero cannot bring headers like he does. The guy is lethal, look how well he is doing with Inter Milan.

Albo,
I am surprised you forgot who is Rio. He is none other then Ken (so is ortega85 btw - yet another nick). If you recall, last time around when he got isolated, he walked out in a huff. But all he had done was assume the nick “Rio” and be his lame self again. Unfortunately he couldnt hide his stripes because his grammer, vocabulary and general idiocy gave him away. Go back to that thread - the posts are still there. And now here he is repeating the same method again. Did you notice how Rio complemented Ken on his “phenomenal insight”? Whot a laugh!

Maradona, I guess you’re right.
Thanks for the reminder.
There’s always something going on in this blog.
Either getting personal with certain bloggers or criticizing everything without giving any input.
If we lose, we are the worst.
If we win, we’re only beating a small South-american team.
These “qualies” are gonna be a long nightmare for those of us who simply wanna watch our team grow into a power-house football side as we play more games together.

ArgentineFan, I agree with you, Crespo is still a great striker.
The problem is that he needs to be playing every week to be at his best.
And if you watch the last games by Inter, It’s been Ibra and Cruz most of the minutes.

Sorry to see the Pumas go out & even more so when they had the ability to win this game Albo. :( I’m afraid to say they choked but they gifted the Boks the game .Either some of the players were fatigued some were carrying injuries.

A real shame. 37-13 really flatter the Boks. BUt be proud of those men. And its not a flash in the pan. Theres plenty of young talent coming out of Argentina to replace the old vanguard.Pedro Ledesma , Nicolas Vergallo etc etc. Nonetheless a real shame. No way are the Boks a superior side .Just the ones who made far fewer mistakes tonight.

However I am sure even more kids will take up the game now & the Pumas will be just as recognised as their footballing brothers by everyone back in Argentina. :)

And maradona I agree. Its not good Ken throwing ones toys out of the pram if someone disagrees with you.

HI GUYS-

Tried to write a comment yesterday, but I guess it didn’t go through. I was wondering, dying to know, from the people who had a chance to see the game..can someone do a player by player analysis as to how well each guy did?

Albo, congrats on an amazing tournament from the Pumas. They had a tremendous ride. Here’s hoping they do well against France.

Ecuador must bounce back from 0-1 from Venezuela in Quito.
And there’s plenty of time ahead.

maradona, or actually, everybody who comments here: I can check the IPs of everybody, so if anyone is trolling, I’ll know. And I can clear Rio, Ken, and ortega85 here. They are not in fact the same person, but just people who happen to agree with each other. :D

Linda, IP addresses are not hard to change and they are not likely to be static anyway. The grammatical constructs and writing style are too similar for it to be a coincidence.

Linutis, i find your comments very harsh and very offensive, Crespo is still one of the best in the world, even at this day and age! You can not possibly state Aguero is better than him? explain what facts you have to come to this conclusion? Tevez’s physical presence around defenders is immense, Goals will come, you always reap the fruits of your labor. Just don’t be knocking any players, especially one that has served us so well, Look at the COPA.America, Crespo was the prime figurehead for alot of the starting games, he was a MASSIVE lost, having him against Brazil would have given us a whole new dimension, Aguero has not achieved much compared to Crespo. Just be careful what you say, it’s not very Clever.

maradona: I know that IP addresses can be changed, but prefer to give people the benefit of the doubt because the thought of someone going that far (the addresses are very, very different, so whoever tried it would have to use an IP scrambler) to comment on a blog where we’re just a group of Argentina supporters discussing the team we love is rather amazing. I’m a busy person, and I’m sure you guys are too.

Linda, the benefit of the doubt is alright with me, but you should be aware that something funny has been going on in the blog for the longest time.
That Ken has quit this blog for good and evermore, about 5 or 6 times already.
That every time he leaves us for ever, “God bless us all” and everything, all these weird characters appear in the blog trash-talking and disrupting the flow.
After a while Kenny boy drops by like nothing ever happened and here we go again.
I have talked to Bob a number of times about it. He can tell you.
Something to keep in mind…

Well, I am not ken. I was laughing when I heard that ortega85 is Ken.
I have my own opinions that I wanted to present to you guys. It’s not my fault that they happen to be the same as ken’s. To give you more info of who I am, I am Mohammed from the UAE now living in the US. I was referred to this blog by a guy who is from the UAE too..his nick was Bati-something.
And I live in Michigan now. I am 22 years old and has been a fan of Argentina since I was 8.

Well, my opinion is that Basile is not the right coach for this team until proven otherwise, which is winning the WC. I explained clearly of why I think so, though there are some reasons I didnt get to.

Albo, I have always liked your work and contributions to this blog as you bring a lot of news from home that we may not have known if you werent here. I hope not to have take my opinions the wrong way just because they are the same as Ken’s. This goes to all of you guys.

by the way, no answered my question about argentina games if we can watch them live, I have Directv..

Ortega85, If you have a dish, try to find a package that includes argentinean channels T&C and Fox Sports (Argentina). Those 2 channels carry all the NT games for Argentina.

ortega85,
My apologies if you are not Ken. I read through your post again and I realize my statement (that ortega85 = Ken) was questionable. However, I am fairly confident that Rio is non other then Ken. I think I got carried away by the fact that Ken has been known to use more then two nicks at the same time for complementing each other and for insulting others.
