There is definitely a big problem between Aguilar and Ramon Diaz, there is no doubt about that. The incorrect part of your statement was that you said “River wanted Ramón Díaz back as a coach but couldn’t afford him. Tinelli hired Ramón Díaz for San Lorenzo, and since then, there’s a war between Aguilar (River president) and Ramón Díaz.”

The problem never revolved around money and not affording him. It actually originated in 2002, when Ramon Diaz last left River. This was Aguilar’s first year as President of the institution, and despite the fact that Ramon had led River to the Clausura 2002 title, his contract was not renewed by Aguilar and was forced to leave the club.

Since then, the two would not get along. Ramon Diaz even went as far as publicly supporting and encouraging people to vote for Davicce (another candidate) in the 2005 Presidential elections for the club. Even though he helped Davicce gain votes, it wasn’t enough and Aguilar was re-elected.

After five years of being inactive, Diaz chose to revive his coaching career and joined San Lorenzo. This was due to the fact that he could not join the club until 2009, when Aguilar is expected to leave his position.

When River were left without a coach (Passarella resigned), Aguilar found himself and the institution going down in flames. Despite his well-known feud with Ramon (briefly explained above), he went after him since he is historically the most title-winning coach in the history of the club. River offered the “Pelado” a contract worth approximately $1,700,000 dollars a year. He was very close to rejoining the club, though his final decision was to stay with San Lorenzo, who offered him a less attractive contract (economically).

I am not saying you didn’t know most of the story, but I was just trying to clarify that economic issues weren’t the reason he didn’t return, but rather a personal feud with Aguilar.
