All, this is the champions league weekend again. There will be 16 teams that will go into 2nd round. Some teams are already certain and some are not. I did a quick analysis of which are the 16 teams to go forward. Here is a snapshot of the same

A - Porto & Liverpool
B - Chelsea & RBK
C - RM & Olympiakos
D - Milan & Celtic
E - Bar & Lyon
F - MU & Roma
G - INT & FEN
H - SEV & ARS

Now the next thing that comes to my mind is how many of these 16 has Argentine player in it and how important are those players to the team? Or in other words, how many starters (if not injured or suspended) and their team depend on them. Hence the next round of analysis.

POR - Has 3 argentines in the team. Lisandro Lopez and Lucho are absolute critical to Porto. Marianno Gonzalez is not. Not very bad for the players. Not very good considering Porto is really not a serious contender for the title. They are a good team but not a european power as such (not Barcelona, Man Utd, Real Madrid, Milan etc.)

LIV - Javier Mascherano. Absolutely critical in the plans of Liverpool, is a sure starter and is very much a key factor for the success of Liverpoo. Very good again.

RM - Has 4. Saviola, Gago, Higuain & Heinze. None important to the team. Maybe Heinze to a little extent and would have played if he was not injured. Gago plays sometimes, but he is not as important to RM as Cambiasso for Inter or Mascherano for Liverpool.

OLY - I love Luciano Galletti. I always did. He is a smashing guy. Probably he will never play for Argentina. But boy his team depends on him. But again Olympiakos is no power at all. They did great this time. BTW, a day when Riquelme is not working, I would love to play 2 number 5s in the middle and set 2 wingers, no enganche and may be throw in Luciano Galletti for 15-20 mins.

BAR - Messi and Milito. No need to say more. Great!!!

MU - Tevez. He is getting important every day. A big positive.

INT - They have 7. Samuel, Zanetti, Cambiasso, Burdisso, Crespo, Cruz, Solari. Am I missing anyone. Perhaps 3/4 will always be on the pitch, with Zanetti and Cambiasso automatic starter. Walter Samuel is doing great this year and Cruz is always sharp. Just unfortunate and getting old.

That leaves us 7 teams out of 16 teams with some players in them and you can see how many are important. What do you guys feel.

Gaby Rodriguez to Liverpool for 6 million pounds????
They're out of their mind.
Gaby hasn't played one game in primera A for Boca yet.
I think this is getting a bit out of hands.
Pretty soon they'll be signing contracts to pregnant mothers...

Nice game by tevez I think he was the Argy str of the weekend. Messi was not great but then again the ret of Barcelona players should be takinig advantage of the facat that the opponent has 2 to 3 players always close to Messi. I feel bad for Crespo I know he wants to play but if Cruz is going to be the starter i think this will be Crespos last season at Inter.

tribalfooball.com - December 09, 2007

Boca Juniors striker Gabriel Rodriguez is a £6 million target for Liverpool.

The People says the Argentinian has been dubbed the new Carlos Tevez after impressing while playing for his country at junior level.

The best squad in Latin America in todays game. Period. If Riquelme was active in a club (which he will be in Boca soon) they will be much better for 08 and the WC qualifiers

Aldo Duscher scored for Racing in their 3-1 victory over Mallorca. He hasn't featured in the NT for some time, but it's still worth mentioning.

Much hilarity provoked by the comments of a stirrer. Some competent talent. Funny how the major clubs of Europe are sending a continual stream of scouts to Argentina all the time.

Look in the mirror child.

Nice to see the forgotten man Luciano Figueroa come on and score for Genoa albeit they were already 0-3 down. January is vital &certain players ought to be considering their options ie loan moves should they wish to be considered for the national selection.

Aguero would do well to curb his temper too. Such impetuosity & ill discipline needs to be ironed out & I am sure Maxi will make sure it is.

Atletico third.Los Indios putting in a great challenge to the old firm.

96.8% is a generous amount of anything. Heck, it's almost all of it...
On the other hand, only 14.58% of the wise beings of the world, spend 6:43 or more minutes of their iluminated life, writing messages to people who's comments they keep swearing they don't care much for.
An undisclosed percentage of lesser argie fans appreciate such events and feel grateful for the spiritual presence of such considerate souls.
Let's all pray now, for this wonderful gift from heaven...
