Albiceleste Update

December 5th, 2007 | By: WCB Chris | 79 Comments »

Albiceleste updateHallo everyone. Daryl here. Apologies for the lack of content on Argentina WCB recently. The whole of World Cup Blog is now gearing up again as we head towards World Cup 2010, and I promise there’ll be plenty of fresh content to discuss in the future.

In the meantime here are a few Argentina talking points:

First and foremost… Argentina 3-0 Bolivia and Colombia 2-1 Argentina (with Tevez sent off) and how things stand in CONMEBOL World Cup 2010 Qualifying.

Riquelme back at Boca, but ineligible for the Club World Cup.

Little Lanús win the Apertura 2007

Independiente’s German Denis could be heading for Europe.

Carlitos discusses English football.

Leo Messi wins the Bravo Trophy, which is like the Ballon d’Or for under-21s.

Il Capitano is now the record caps holder.

My opinion is that Tevez doesn’t need Ronaldo’s PKs.
He’s doing very well and fans love him for what he is and does.
But I personally don’t see Tevez as a designated penalty kicker for Manchester United.
He seems too emotional for PKs.
Maybe in the heat of the moment he couldn’t help it and asked Ronaldo to let him do it.
So I wouldn’t blame El Apache there.
I do believe Ronaldo should kick every PK, no matter who’s team Man-U is.
That said, I think Cristiano Ronaldo is an egomaniac like there’s no tomorrow.
Great player too. One of the best.

CR is a good player with a bad attitude. Btw, looks like Manuel the troll has returned.

CR is an egomaniac but there are younger players coming on in Portugual who he will have to be fighting for the role of top dog.

Tevez is not a bit part player & is becoming a folk hero at Old Trafford which is unsurprising. He is integral to Ferguson’s plans & no matter waht Argentina are guaranteed by virtue of their sheer class to make the QFs if nothing else when their players will have matured by four years.

Masche had a pretty average game yesterday.Benitez formation was mystifying & Masches options are limited considering the lack of movement aside from Torres infront of him.

If Benitez leaves Masche is guaranteed to leave for La Liga maybe serie A ASAP.

Manuel whatever his real name is is a you know what. Just ignore the deluded cretin.

Benitez looks like he wants to get fired lol. Great game by Tevez yesterday, has already improved a lot defensively under Ferguson.

Zanetti – Demichelis – Milito – Insua

———Mascherano——Gago——–
—————-Roman—————-

—Tevez———————Messi—
————–Aguëro—————–

This could easily turn into a 4-5-1 with Tevez and Messi tracking back and assisting Roman in the midfield. This looks like a well balanced formation to me.

Elliot, what has Pato coming in January for Milan got to do with Aguero? R u trying to compare him with Aguero? There’s no comparison, i watched Pato play in the under 20 world cup and he wasn’t all that.
Shame Tevez didn’t get his hat-trick i was really hoping he would.

I was just pointing out that Aguero should enjoy his accolades now, because once again brazil produced a phenomena whose name is PATO. If your going to judge who the better player is based on one tournament that Pato had a poor showing, then don’t go into scouting.

The larger picture is this. There is No other country in the world as insecure as Argentina and their fans. Allow me to elaborate. Kaka wins the ballon d’or and there are actually Argie fans who believe it was all politics and that Messi should have one. Let me repeat, that Messi should have beat Kaka after the year Kaka had. It wasn’t even close in voting.

Argentina crash out of the world cup but it’s ok they are the best team and should have one. The played the most beautiful football (code words for losing) and won fans the world over.

Again they loose in Copa America to Five time World Champions Brazil. They didn’t loose because Brazil was the better team, it was just that Brazil played ugly and dirty. Argentina deserved to win, they again played the most beautiful football (code words for losers).

So I was being flippant in my remarks about Aguero and Pato in order to bring to light the very serious issue of psychosis in 96.8% of Argentineans and their fans. This was a laughing matter to me before but now I am genuinely concerned. Some of the bloggers live in my country and I am worried they are going to snap one day in a public setting.

Argentina is a good little football country who produces some competent talent. Accept that, enjoy it and revel in it. Why do most of you feel the need to shout, hey look over here look over here everyone, we are great just as great as Brazil Germany and Italy…cmon look at us.

Regards,
Elliot

Jozy ALtidore is younger and had played less games then Aleander Pato. And has scored more goals then him. So if anyone is going to be the best in the tournement it would be him.

Zaragoza is getting hammered again. You can’t play Aimar and D’Alessandro on the same pitch.

Whether Pato is a phenomenon or not remains to be seen, let’s not talk about what ifs but of the present.
As for the psychosis of Argentinian fans, you can see the same in Brazilian, Italian, German and English fans.

And Elliot just because someone is touted to be good doesn’t mean that they will turn out to be. Aguero is delivering the goods let’s wait and see what Pato does deliver before mouthing off.

Zaragoza fight back to a 3-3 with ten men! Aimar and D’Alessandro where both substituted in the second half and didn’t have the best of games.

It looks like Riquelme’s presence did help Villareal. Once gone, they lost 2 in a row!

96.8% is a generous amount of anything. Heck, it’s almost all of it…
On the other hand, only 14.58% of the wise beings of the world, spend 6:43 or more minutes of their iluminated life, writing messages to people who’s comments they keep swearing they don’t care much for.
An undisclosed percentage of lesser argie fans appreciate such events and feel grateful for the spiritual presence of such considerate souls.
Let’s all pray now, for this wonderful gift from heaven…

Much hilarity provoked by the comments of a stirrer. Some competent talent. Funny how the major clubs of Europe are sending a continual stream of scouts to Argentina all the time.

Look in the mirror child.

Nice to see the forgotten man Luciano Figueroa come on and score for Genoa albeit they were already 0-3 down. January is vital &certain players ought to be considering their options ie loan moves should they wish to be considered for the national selection.

Aguero would do well to curb his temper too. Such impetuosity & ill discipline needs to be ironed out & I am sure Maxi will make sure it is.

Atletico third.Los Indios putting in a great challenge to the old firm.

Chau. :)

Aldo Duscher scored for Racing in their 3-1 victory over Mallorca. He hasn’t featured in the NT for some time, but it’s still worth mentioning.

The best squad in Latin America in todays game. Period. If Riquelme was active in a club (which he will be in Boca soon) they will be much better for 08 and the WC qualifiers

tribalfooball.com – December 09, 2007

Boca Juniors striker Gabriel Rodriguez is a £6 million target for Liverpool.

The People says the Argentinian has been dubbed the new Carlos Tevez after impressing while playing for his country at junior level.

Liverpool have a strong link with Boca having loaned Gabriel Paletta to them for a season and boss Rafa Benitez hopes this will help him land the youngster.

Nice game by tevez I think he was the Argy str of the weekend. Messi was not great but then again the ret of Barcelona players should be takinig advantage of the facat that the opponent has 2 to 3 players always close to Messi. I feel bad for Crespo I know he wants to play but if Cruz is going to be the starter i think this will be Crespos last season at Inter.

Gaby Rodriguez to Liverpool for 6 million pounds????
They’re out of their mind.
Gaby hasn’t played one game in primera A for Boca yet.
I think this is getting a bit out of hands.
Pretty soon they’ll be signing contracts to pregnant mothers…

All, this is the champions league weekend again. There will be 16 teams that will go into 2nd round. Some teams are already certain and some are not. I did a quick analysis of which are the 16 teams to go forward. Here is a snapshot of the same

A – Porto & Liverpool
B – Chelsea & RBK
C – RM & Olympiakos
D – Milan & Celtic
E – Bar & Lyon
F – MU & Roma
G – INT & FEN
H – SEV & ARS

Now the next thing that comes to my mind is how many of these 16 has Argentine player in it and how important are those players to the team? Or in other words, how many starters (if not injured or suspended) and their team depend on them. Hence the next round of analysis.

POR – Has 3 argentines in the team. Lisandro Lopez and Lucho are absolute critical to Porto. Marianno Gonzalez is not. Not very bad for the players. Not very good considering Porto is really not a serious contender for the title. They are a good team but not a european power as such (not Barcelona, Man Utd, Real Madrid, Milan etc.)

LIV – Javier Mascherano. Absolutely critical in the plans of Liverpool, is a sure starter and is very much a key factor for the success of Liverpoo. Very good again.

RM – Has 4. Saviola, Gago, Higuain & Heinze. None important to the team. Maybe Heinze to a little extent and would have played if he was not injured. Gago plays sometimes, but he is not as important to RM as Cambiasso for Inter or Mascherano for Liverpool.

OLY – I love Luciano Galletti. I always did. He is a smashing guy. Probably he will never play for Argentina. But boy his team depends on him. But again Olympiakos is no power at all. They did great this time. BTW, a day when Riquelme is not working, I would love to play 2 number 5s in the middle and set 2 wingers, no enganche and may be throw in Luciano Galletti for 15-20 mins.

BAR – Messi and Milito. No need to say more. Great!!!

MU – Tevez. He is getting important every day. A big positive.

INT – They have 7. Samuel, Zanetti, Cambiasso, Burdisso, Crespo, Cruz, Solari. Am I missing anyone. Perhaps 3/4 will always be on the pitch, with Zanetti and Cambiasso automatic starter. Walter Samuel is doing great this year and Cruz is always sharp. Just unfortunate and getting old.

That leaves us 7 teams out of 16 teams with some players in them and you can see how many are important. What do you guys feel.
