A little bit of this, a little bit of that…

March 16th, 2009 | By: Julian D | 189 Comments »

Well Hello everyone! I am going to try my hand at updating the threads every week or so. I noticed that it hasn’t been updated for awhile, and I was getting tired of seeing the same old CHAMPIONS LEAGUE thing…how about you guys???

I think we should try to begin forgetting about Juan Roman Riquelme because I don’t think he will be back… Really guys, I know we all have mixed feelings about him, but it’s time to move on. It’s sad I know, but we should try to think positive, and make the best out of what we have. Let’s dedicate this thread to the Argentine National team.

So how about our qualifiers coming up? First against Venezuela on March 28 and then against Bolivia on April 1st. This is the REAL test for Maradona, it isn’t a friendly, it is for real. I have a feeling that we will do well. We have a pretty good record against Venezuela at home, I don’t think they have ever beaten us on home soil. Against Bolivia? Well again, we shouldn’t have a problem with them. What do you all think??? I want to read all your comments!

Another question… Now that we have the starting roster, and we know who will be playing, what do you think? Is it the same old, same old? or will it be totally different without Roman? Let’s not go off on a tangent about ROMAN (I know it’s hard to avoid, but we can do it!) Let’s think fresh! This is a new thread, it calls for it! :) )

Ok everyone, enjoy the blog! Take a look at the pictures… It fills me up with emotion and excitement! Now that I am in Buenos Aires, I feel it all around me!

Now let’s enjoy the thread!

-Julian

If you want to know the difference about Berbatov and Tevez — look at what they have won.

Berbs was brought to Man United because Fergy thought that they needed a classic striker. His inclusion to the team has caused problems for the offense. Tevez saved Man united’s ass over and over again last year, and he’s not on the field long enough this year to do the same.

learn something about football before dissing players like Carlos Tevez.

Another fantastic play by Messi. If you have a chance watch the goal in super slow mode. I dont think there is another player in the world that has such control of the ball at that speed. I am really excited about these upcoming games. I would love us to take all six points but taking four would be respectable and put us in good postion . I have a feeling that Maradona will be conservative so I still see him playing a 4 4 2 with Aguero and Messi upfront. I predict a 3 to 1 win. Having said that when was the last time we scored more than one goal in a qualifier? I think that it has been a while.

toddutah – I saw Messi’s goal. It was beautiful. Every single game, he beats defenders left and right. Every single game he manages to score an amazing goal that has supporters on their feet. And these are simply brilliant individual goals. Spectacular. I don’t even bother commenting on blogs anymore about his goals, because there’s no single player who does this.

All these idiots who rant on about Ronaldo are pathetic. I can’t remember the last time Ronaldo ran at defenders and beat them one on one, forget beating 2, 3, or 4 defenders – he’s never done that. Furthermore all his stupid stepovers amount to nothing. It like he does a Lord of the Dance move in midfield and passes back to Rio Ferdinand. Or he sees Evra zipping down the lane, and he backheels a pass to him, when a simple pass would’ve sufficed. Pathetic.

I don’t know why I went on a rant here, but I’ll stop now.

Joel time to move on. It is Messi time! Time for Messi to walk out on the pitch wearing the number 10. Time for him to assume his rightful place as the greatest player on the planet and let the Argy crowd yell and cheer as he walks out into history. Yes i will miss Riquleme and wish this day could have been postponed a few years but since it is here Maradona your heir is here. A number 10 albiceleste that puts fear into the opponent like no one since Maradona. IT IS OFFICIALLY MESSI TIME! Think of all the magic we will see in that blue and white striped number 10 jersey and I pray at least one if not two world cups. Maradona be a man and give Messi his true numbered jersey now . My vote is for Messi to be given the number 10 this week. The wiat is over the succesion complete. Dale Argentina!!!

Quotes for Messi when he arrived about Roman .

Lionel Messi told El Mundo Deportivo that he “was an important player in the team but now he is not here and we need to find a new solution”, before declaring to Clarin that he did not have any problems with the Boca Juniors man, as has been reported.

“At the Beijing Olympics we played together and we linked up together well. Now it’ll be strange because every time we’ve been at the camp he’s been there to,” he mused.
“I can’t say anything on what had happened. Personally, I had problems made up between me and Roman, things that weren’t true. The truth is that we’re different ages and we both had our own way and our own friends. But everything was fine when we talked and it was the same on the field.”

¿Quién tiene que jugar con el número 10 en la selección argentina?

Messi| 11843 99 %
Agüero| 55 0 %
Montenegro| 32 0 %
Verón| 28 0 %
Tévez| 25 0 %
Otro| 17 0 %
total votos| 12000

No Surprise but on the Mundo deportivo website these are the current results of the pole on who should wear number 10 for Argentina. Funny .

I hope they don’t make a big thing out of who is going to wear the #10.
What we need now, is a group of 11 players (plus bench) united, no matter what the number in their jersey says.
If we can put together a balanced group of players, we should beat Venezuela 9 out of 10 times.
Especially when playing at home.
Bolivia in La Paz is a different story though.

Todd, Mundo Deportivo is a sports magazine from Barcelona.
it figures Messi would get all the votes, doesn’t it?

In all honestly, the jersey #10 belonged to Pelé many years before Argentina invented the “enganche”.
Pelé was probably the first enganche. Then players like Bochini, Maradona, Brindisi, Babington, Franccescoli, Alonso, Gallardo, D’Alessandro and so many more, have played that possition wearing the #10.
Only in times of Menotti, back in ‘78, our number 10 was Kempes, who had a lot more of a pure #9 than an enganche.

Fab, I think Pelé started his international career as a striker but ended up as a playmaker.

Albo of course I know that Mundo is pro barcelona that is why I put funny after but that does not change the fact that the world would be surprised if anyone else received the number 10 jersey. And of course the most important thing is how the team plays but historically I think it is important for Messi to be given this confidence by the coach and player who once wore this number for Argentina. Even at the youth level where my children play we always know that the number 10 on the opposing team is a player to keep an eye on. I don tlook at this as a very serious matter but do think that Messi should be the number 10 for Argentina.

A 3-4-3 is what Maradona has in mind for Venezuela.

Something like:

—————Carrizo——————

—Burdisso—Samuel—Forlín—

Zanetti—Gago—Mascherano—Jonas

——Messi—Agüero— Tévez——

I would love the 3 4 3 but would also like to see Di maria instead of Jonas. Also I would prefer Maxi over Zanetti. To me maradona is playing what looks like an offensive line up but then plays four very defensive mid fielders.

To everyone who complained about the posts on the EPL…we usually only delete comments once we feel that someone has gotten out of hand, or is trolling. If we were to go through every single comment to find anything critical of Argentina, well… we just don’t have the time for it. If someone gets too annoying, just leave us a message and we’ll look into it.

As always, please just ignore the trolls. Thanks.

ajnyc– I make that same point about Ronaldo all the time, most recently after that radio show, World soccer. There is this ridiculous argument going around shows and forums that Ronaldo and Messi are equal in terms of dribbling, but then that ROnaldo is better because he heads the ball and takes free kicks.

I’m not going into the later part of that statement (which is a really flawed argument on its own), but the “equal on dribbling” bullshit argument really needs to stop. Messi is so superior to Ronaldo in dribbling. Like leagues better. Like you said, Ronaldo has never actually beaten people to create a singular score, but Messi has been doing this almost EVERY game this year.

Your river dance comment was hilarious.

This isn’t to say that ROnaldo isn’t a great player. He really is. Just that Messi’s dribbling is so beyond ROnaldo that there really shouldn’t be an argument.

Todd, I’d like to see DeMaría instead of Jonas too.
About Maxi over Zanetti, might be, but Zanetti is to me more of a winger than Maxi.
Whoever is in a good day will do.

No favoritism for Rooney, huh? If Tevez or Mascherano had done the same, they’d definitely get more than the standard one match ban.

As for Messi versus Ronaldo, give me a break! Messi is 10x the better passer and 100x better dribbler…he runs with the ball like no other in the game today. Messi is the complete threat.
