Who are your starters?

As we all know, The Argentina Blog is back. After much prayer and long, long, long, long wait, we are finally back. Thank you to BOB who has done a great deal in helping us with this. Again, I have missed all of you, and I am glad to see some of you back again. I hope the usualls will be back, and we will continue our great converstation about our beloved ARGENTINA.

Now back to football. There are some questions (as always, I doubt we will ever see a selection where all of us will be satisfied, because too many players to pick from, too many quality players. Such a great problem we have) here are some of mine.

First, who should replace AIMAR ? there is no hiding the fact that he is one of my favorite player, but he seems to get injured at the worst possible time. This would have been his ideal chance to finally show his worth and his true quality as our main playmaker against a good team, but here he gets injured. I am starting to question, could AIMAR be dependable? because of his injuries I mean?

Two, I have said it in the past, I really believed that REAL MADRID were going to use GAGO in place of GUTI as his replacement, and it is starting to show in their games. GAGO has been the creator for that team, so what is Gagos role in the NT? he seems to be a very accurate passer, he has such a soft touch and great through ball passes. EVEN his free kicks were great. I used to think he was more defensive, but he might truelly be a Redondo.

Three, DEMICHELIS (why is he not called? i really thought, he would get the nod, in place of Mascherano. I know you say gago took mascheranos spot, but there are plenty of rooms for a friendly. This guy seems to be in good form for Byren.

Defense, as crazy as it may sound, i think our defence will be solid for this game. MILITO is becoming a top defender in la Liga. Burdisso is playing lights out for inter, so with Ayala and Milito holding the CB back position, and Burdisso and Heinze holding the RB & LB position. we should be set, where does Zanetti fit???

Striker – I would like to see Milito and the Rabbit get the start on this one. They are in top, top, form. Milito needs to play about 60 minutes on this one, he earned it. Crespo will always be Crespo we dont need to try him out, we know what he will do, but i think it is wise to let Milito become a regular in the NT.
AGUERO – then where would he fit? would you start him over the Rabbit?

TEVEZ – he better becareful and start playing, he is playing good, but he really needs to be in a place where he is used right. Because his NT career is in danger. I mean, with the emergance of HIGUAIN, AGUERO, SAVIOLA, MILITO, CRESPO & even Cavenaghi, he really is gonna be in a tough battle.

HIGUAIN – I am glad he has finally decided to represent the baby white and blue. Kudos to him. As soon as he gets his papers right, he will be playing.

BY THE WAY, isnt it Great that LIVERPOOL got Mascherano??? now they have four Argentinians, Paletta, Insua, LETO (whom they just signed) now Mascherano. They are officially my favorite EPL team. lol. lets talk.

why is the FA taking forever to decide on mascherano. Let the guy play please. They are stalling.

This guy KIA is just no good. he is now In Brazil to take over Corinthians, i read an article on fox sports that said, he wants for tevez to go back with him. Laughable, tevez and mascherano needs to do whatever to stay away from this crazy guy. He has screwd them enough. So sad to see talents like that being wasted. What has happend to mascherano is a true tragedy. For a guy that played ever second for ARGENTINA in the world cup, not to find a place for a club such as westham is just beyond me.

Wednesday’s draw placed Colombia and Paraguay in Group C along with Argentina and the United States, while Peru and Uruguay join Bolivia and host Venezuela in Group A.

Brazil, which has won the Copa America seven times in addition to its five World Cup titles, will open against Mexico on June 27 in the southeastern city of Puerto Ordaz.

The United States will open June 28 against Argentina, which shares the record of 14 Copa America titles with Uruguay.

Venezuela plays the tournament opener against Bolivia on June 26.

The tournament will be played in nine Venezuelan cites and concludes July 15.

The first two teams in each group and the best two of the third-place holders will advance to the second round. The semifinals are set for July 10-11 and the final match for July 15 in the western city of Maracaibo

Ok Someone that knows a lot about our group and the format please break down the copa america for me. I know a lot about the USA team but not much about Columbia and Paraguay. What place do we have to take in our group to move on and who is the biggest threat in the group? The USA might be in pretty good form because the Copa america starts just a few days after the gold cup finishes. They could be coming in very hot and on a roll. Could be an interesting first game.

Quote from Fox soccer on the last Copa America. I hate the Brasil bias.

Brazil, a seven-time Copa America winner, will debut against Mexico on June 27 in the southeastern city of Puerto Ordaz. It then plays Chile on July 1 and Ecuador on July 4.

The Brazilians won the tournament’s last edition in Peru, beating rival Argentina in the final despite playing mostly with second stringers

Argentina dominated that game and there were some first team brasilians in that game too. Fox soccer should have said that Brasil got lucky with goals at the end of each half and then won on penalties.

Which team USA will show up at Copa America?
If it’s the one that played Mexico, they’re gonna be tough to beat.
If it’s the USA from WC06, they better stay home abd watch it on TV.

Albo,
Most likely the US team will be an improved version of the one that beat Mexico recently; the interim coach, Bradley is trying to impress so that the word interim is removed..

Albo dont forget that the USA was the only team to tie Italy and should have won that game. The only bad game that the USA played was against the Czek republic. Ghana won because of a bad penalty kick call and the USA outplayed them. Argentina has much more talent then the USA team but I would be worried about them because they will be coming out of another tournament and might be on a roll or at the vert least have some team chemistry.

Ken, I hope USA does great in this cup.
It would be a big push for the sport in this country.
Mexico, on the other hand, has too many things to prove with Hugo Sanchez at the helm, now desperately trying to put his money where his mouth is.
He has criticized Lavolpe like there’s no tomorrow.
Talked the talk.
Now it’s time to walk the walk.
What do you think?

Albo,

For soccer to get recognition in the US, there need to be some high profile players in the MLS such as Zidane, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho as well as some high profile national coaches as Pekerman, Mourinho or Jurgen Klinsman ( Sorry about the spelling). Since we do not have any of this, there will be no push for soccer upward in the US.

Had Klinsman (he withdrew his candidacy) became the US national coach, the us NT would have made great stride. As Argentinean fans, we must not forget he masterminded our team’s defeat in the world cup. Realizing that Argentina is technically more savy, he focused on physical prowess which really propelled the German team and he also focused on attacking football. Thanks to klinsman that Germany got that far in the world cup 2006.

With regard to Hugo Sanchez’ comments about La Volpe, It is part of the game to criticize because he wanted the latter’s job. I am very surprised though that US beat Mexico given the kind of game they gave Argentina at the world cup. We had to on xtra time to beat them.

No matter what, I am sure Argentina will be US in the upcoming Copa cup.

ken,

I disagree with you today I was surpised that sportscenter did a report of how eto and ronaldinho made up after etos outbrust and they also had done a recap of the aresenal and bolton game and the goal was exactly number 3 in the top ten plays. U.S is deffiantely growing were having a lot of young kids already got bought by big europeans clubs. The leaguge also have gotten better. 10 more years players from brazil argentina england spain italy african countries..etc will be coming in I believe its going to be bigger then the pemiership one day.

Just want to say AMEN to those of you who praised this blog somewhere above. I love it! Great to have a chanse to talk football with other Argiefans world wide.
By the way: a difficult group in the Copa America for us. Paraguay are difficult to break down. USA are strong on their day. Colombia, I don`t know much about them these days…But we`ll go through anyway.
VAMOS!!

Golazo,
Great to hear from you. US soccer is improving but there is still room for BIG improvement. There is not one SINGLE american players that have made impact of the caliber of Platini, Cruff, Maradona, Pele,Ronaldinho etc. Right now the rising star in the US team is Freddy Adu and he was born in Africa. He went for a try out at Manchester UTD and his performance was rated “inconclusive”. It may well be that he is overated.

If you go back in history, Pele and George Best came to US to popularize the game, but it did not work out.

My post has more to do with a huge disappointment in that US National President FA, Gulati has not yet hired a high profile national coach to start a new era in the soccer history given the US standard went down BIG time in WC2006 compared to the previous world cup. Do you get the gist of what I am trying to say?

If US soccer is “going to be bigger than the premiership”, I hope it happens in my lifetime.

Rune,
Just for curiosity sake, are you or are your parents from Argentina? What are the main reasons behind your passion and knowledge of the Argentinean team?

Messay,

like Fab said above, a new blog entry about COPA AMERICA would be in order. Thanks

Ken
I am not from Argentina, neither are my parents. I am 100% Norwegian, believe it or not. I fell in love with Maradona and Argentina in 1986, and from then on I`ve been completely obsessed with Argentine football. When it comes to football(who is a VERY big part of my life)I consider myself Argentinian. I love Argentina and my favourite team is Boca. I follow most of the the Argentine players in Europe closely. And I support whatever team(apart from Arsenal, I can never support them) that has one of my Argentine favourite players. It`s been like this for me since Diego was in Napoli, Caniggia in Atalanta, and so on.
Where are you from, Ken?
