What to wear!

June 24th, 2006 | By: Jonathan | 68 Comments »

So it’s game time, and you’re shifting through your closet, trying to find what to wear!

If you’re like me, you have an endless collection of jerseys and Argentina cottons.
And if you’re like me, you’re superstitious as hell about what to wear.

fifa.com reports that Argentina will wear their BLUE AND WHITES today. I love the traditional jersey.

So I could wear the new one, because… well, that’s what they’re wearing!
Plus I wore it to the 1st 3 games, and we haven’t done so bad.

OR

I could wear their blue and white jersey that they had right before they released this new one.
You know the one… the adidas jersey with the mesh lining going down the sides of the arms.
The blue and white fading out at the end…

This jersey is significant, because we wore these BLUE SLEAVES when we thrashed Brazil 3 to 1!
(I know you remember that one)

Solid blue jersey?
The one I have is the 1994 world cup jersey. You know, the checkers down the side…
This was the Jersey Maradona wore when he scored his last world cup goal!
Surely, THIS will give us luck today if I wear it!

Wait,
I could wear my crappy, generic blue and white stripes jersey that I bought on the streets of Argentina four about 10 pesos.
You know the kind… it already has holes in it, it’s seems are coming apart and it smells like, well like the streets of Buenos Aires.
You can’t possibly convince me that a natural shirt like THIS won’t bring us luck!

I have a GINOBILI basketball jersey, but that’s out of the question.

I could wear one of the Boca jerseys I have… I’d do this if I thought we were going to PK kicks, and need PATO to come through,
but I think we take out mexico the old fashion way… :D

Oh, I know, my VILLARREAL kit!
This would be for Riquelme and Sorin to shine today! And it would also make us remember Lucho Figueroa who also once wore the yellow submarine, and had his world cup dream in a tragic knee injury with River.
Nah, too depressing…

I’ll just stick with what works and wear the same one I’ve been wearing.
Yeah it starting to smell, but it could be worse.

I could be seen in public in THIS !!

It’s 7am right now, so before I even put my jersey on, I’ll wear THIS until 11am.

What are YOU wearing today?

Germanys defence are pitiful apart from Metzelder. They will have to commit fouls if we run at them & pass arounf & through them.

Sweden were caught cold & never recovered after the first minute of the blitzkreig.

And Saviola was poor today.Mind you he & Crespo didnt get much service.Crespo loves crosses & how many did he get ?

Tevez is a bet for starting though JP still seems to view him as an impact player.

The imp.thing is we are through & I’m sure JP will have some deficiences ironed out by the next game.

And no Scaloni please for the next game. Why Zanetti isnt around only JP knows.

I couldn’t find my valiums, I was almost having a heart attack in the first 70 minutes. How come we played so bad? Mexico was leading the game by far. Why were we sooooo slow in the middle? What happened to our accuracy when passing the ball? Anyone saw Pekerman shouting at everybody in the extended time? And what about the referee? And: why every game we are stolen one goal????

But, the good part: What a golazo de Maxi, madre mia!!!!!!! I think it will probably be the best one of the WC. And the most important part is, that in spite of everything: Germany, here we go!!!! Vamos Argentina todavia!!!!!

Oh my God it was just so frustrating. I was going to have a heart attack. Well well we controled the game and won. Mexico played really well, so they shouldnt be sad. I am so happy I can breath now. Argentina please win the game before 90 min your poor fans can not stand pressure. Hey you guys Messi was playing well hope to see more of him.

Argentina rely too much on playing through Riquelme. If you stop him playing as Mexico did for a lot of the match then you struggle. I can see Germany beating you by 3-1 because of this.

Mexico choked they could have won it. Argentina should start Tevez y Messi, using Crespo and Saviola on the basis of seniority is foolish. Germany is good, the best defense is a good offense. Riquelme and Aimar together was pleasantly successful. I’m hoping for Argentina vs. Brazil in the final 4 - 4 decided on penalties.

Argies need to tighten up in all departments of the game. After Serbia, this was very disappointing. kindly will somebody please tell Heinze to wake up!! And JP needs to start Tevez and Messi by the 60th minute EVERY game, no matter what the situation is!!Please play better against Germany than u did against Mehico guys!!

Native son, how can you say

‘God bless Heinze.
If he hadn’t tripped the striker, we’d have gone down’

This is a typical Argentinian attitude.. how can u want to win this way? It is cheating!!!

It is called football just like the Mexicans packing themselves in the defence and playing that offside trap. Did you see them lunging forward after a free kick catching the Argentinean forwards unawares? You’dhave been forgiven to think that they had seen a Tsunami appraching.

Argentina 2 Mexico 1
By SUN ONLINE REPORTER

GABRIEL HEINZE added his name to Argentina’s World Cup list of shame.

This is one of many headllines around the world disagreeing with you that it was not just a tackle it was a rotten foul and he got a yellow card for it, it should have been a red. You were very very lucky.

I am loving these posts on the WorldCupBlog… I have the exact same problem. I’ve been rotating between my different Argentina jerseys to go to work… I’d mix in the away jersey and a few cotton tees to make sure I’m not wearing blue+white stripes everyday (not that there is anything wrong with that)… On game day, I have been wearing the current Crespo home strip. But when he comes off, I switch to my Maradona home strip.

[...] I totally share the opinion of this WorldCupBlogger about what to wear on game day. I suppose I could wear my Chelsea jersey when Crespo is playing but I’m not even sure he is coming back to the Bridge. I could also wear my Batistuta/Maradona home strip. I can even wear the replica of the away strip (Le Coq Sportif 1986 Maradona)… the same one he wore when he scored the two contrasting goals against England. But no, I have been wearing the current Crespo Home strip. But I have washed it once after we beat the Netherlands. ||| [...]

Hi I’m trying to find a 1994 World Cup soccer jersey for my boyfriend and i can’t find one anywhere.

Would you be able to help me find one? My boyfriend loves Redondo and i’d love to find him a jersey with Redond’s name & number on it.

We live in Australia and i don’t think there’s anywhere here that would sell them.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
