Underdogs or Favorites?

June 29th, 2006 | By: Jonathan | 131 Comments »

Sportsbooks are falling overthemselves.
Some have Argentina as favorites, others have them as underdogs… and some say, “Make your pick.”

This means that people are betting pretty evenly on both sides.

How do you feel about this?
Do we deserve to be the favorites? How about underdogs?

If you told me before the Cup started that Argentina would meet Germany in the quarterfinals, and that we would also be the underdogs, I would have laughed in your face.

Italy beat them 4 to 1!

However, Germany has looked impressive.
Yes, their most difficult opponent has been Ecuador or maybe Sweden, and Poland gave them everything they could handle, but they are the home team and getting better with each game. They peaked at the right moment.

Argentina?
Maybe reverse.

They destroyed Serbia and became the instant favorites.
Since then, they mustard only a scoreless tie with the Netherlands, and narrowly escaped a Mexican team many had believed they would trash.

Putting your fan support aside, if I were to give you $100 dollars to bet on one team to win… who would you pick?

Do you want Argentina to win, but think it will be the German’s day?
Are you confident that Argentina will win, even if you weren’t a fan?

The only thing that is 100% certain, is that this game will be fun to watch!

Glad to see Tevez up front with Crespo. I’ve been impressed by both guys in this Cup. I really like Argentina (and I like Germany too). This should be one helluva great game! I believe that if Argentina can survive the first 20 minutes without giving up a goal (think Germany vs. Sweden), it’s anyone’s game. Whoever wins, let’s all hope for a clean but hard fought game that isn’t decided by any controversial ref calls. This game is what the World Cup is all about!

In the absense of Burdisso with injury, I am completely satisfied with the starting line-up. I believe Coloccini is a better choice than Scaloni albeit he is shaky as well. Starting with Tevez is a good idea, because we need speed at the early moments to try to put pressure on Germans and to get our rythm. If things don’t work out, we will have an opportunity to put in Aimar and Messi together in the second half to strengthen our attack.

I don’t think we can win this game defensively. To win, we must attack no matter what.

Good luck Argentina, I am praying with god for you, and this time, I don’t want to sing a song “Don’t cry Argentina”!

We need to take chances, we need to shoot, I don’t want to see a German goal at 80th minute which will make things over for us, we need to score first!

Germany: 1 Arngentina: 1

Noo!!! What did Pekerman do?!!!
Riquelme is out and no Messi!
Tevez can’t do it on his own.

This is not good for Argentina.

This did not happen!!!!!
Abbondanzieri could not have left in the worst time.
Argentina could have beaten Germany so easily but unfortunately Pekerman made some poor choices!

f*ck the British and German trolls that come on here…

Pekerman wasn’t patient enough and made the subs too early. Pato injured was the turning point, because that left us with 2 subs.

The boys worked hard, we must cheer for them till the end. Pekerman must take some blame and we just didn’t have the luck.

VAMOS ARGENTINA TODAVIA… I will be cheering for you at the U20 in Toronto next year.
