THE FACTS…

May 7th, 2006 | By: JP | 132 Comments »

Wow. What a hubub…Having read through all the comments, it seems that an update OF FACT is due. Here it is:

ON THE LIST (16)

G: Abbondanzieri, Franco
D: Coloccini, Ayala, Heinze, Cufre, Burdisso, G Milito, Scaloni, Sorin
M: Maxi, Lucho, Cambiasso, Riquelme
F: Messi, Crespo

ALMOST CERTAINLY ON THE LIST (5)

G: Lux
M: Mascherano, Aimar
F: Tevez, Saviola

This leaves TWO PLAYERS…The press is speculating that it’s between Duscher and Demichelis for ONE MIDFIELD Spot; and Cruz and Palacio for ONE FORWARD spot. (To me, Aguero is THE GREAT ABSENCE, then Zanetti)

So, to sum things up: This seems like quite the proverbial turd in the punchbowl…but what can we do? What I am going to do is pray that Pekerman has the BALLS required to play MESSI, CRESPO & TEVEZ up front…That is currently the GREAT DEBATE. Does Argentina have the balls to stack the attack? It ain’t Crespo that’d sit, so I think it’s ABSOLUTELY necessary to have both Tevez and Messi on the field. This might just give Riquelme enough room to do his thing.

SIDE COMMENT: Did anyone notice the manhandling that both River & Estudiantes handed their Brazilian rivals these past few days? There were essentially riots (with critically wounded, etc.). On top of it, the ONLY talent on Corinthians is Tevez & Mascherano… Despite the ugly list from Pekerman, it’s been a remarkable couple of days for Argentine football.

I have to agree to the “auf Wiedersehen” comment. Pekerman has been proving to be a pelotudo since the moment he casted doubts about one of the greatest argentine players in activity, Javier Zanetti. Inter just yesterday won Coppa Italia 3-1 against Roma and the assist for Cambiasso’s goal was Zanetti’s. But Cufrè has been called and Pupi is not. WTF is up with that. Don’t get me wrong, I like Cufre a lot but give me a break…

Cruz was never taken into consideration either and he has been scoring non stop for the past two seasons in Serie A. Adriano? LOL. He has everything the team needs, he’s tall, skillful, intelligent, great shooter, etc.

I can’t believe a Lucho Gonzalez has his place assured in the list while much better players are being left behind or not even being considered.

If Pekershit keeps going in this direction then it’ll be only three matches and goodbye…again.

I’m glad my second team will be at least in the semi-finals…Forza Italia..!! :D

Im disappointed in your attitude towards your team Lyle. Theirs no need to feel down upon your teams chances but if it makes you feel any difference i’m sure you will manage a win before exiting in the group stage but it wont come against the albiceleste.

Massimo i dont know what your chatting about but Lucho is fantastic midfielder who deserves his place in the squad. He can play as a defensive midfielder or as an attacker but either way he is asst to the team and one of the players to keep an eye out for in the world cup. Another consistent performer.

I don’t think Lucho Gonzalez is at the same level of the rest of the players. He’s good, that’s it, but he’s in no way a World Cup level player IMO…Kily, Demichelis, Gago, SOLARI and even la Brujita Veron qualify as better players. I’d wish we could have Camoranesi on the team…along with Mascherano, Cambiasso and Riquelme…beautiful.

Anyway…my main problem here is that Zanetti, the natural captain of the team and one of the best players all around in his position, is still in doubt.
I can’t agree more with the comments about Sorin being all over the place. Captain of the team? Give me a break. He was a good Nº3, period. Now I see him in the box trying to make goals, WTF? He couldn’t kick the ball if his life depended on it…I don’t like what Pekerman is doing so far. Pupi deserves to be treated like the champion he is. Forrearlo asi es una falta total de respeto. Coloccini and Burdisso have a place on the team and not Zanetti? Matate Pekerman…

I still have hope…the media and the people are not going to support his decision if he leaves one of the most popular and beloved players out of the team.

Massimo, you don’t seem to know Lucho. He’s great. He must be in the starting line up.

Lucho >>>> Maxi Rodriguez.

The problem is where to put Messi.

The problem is NOT where to put Messi. First we need to put Messi on the team. Then we need to find a place for all the others. Messi is simply our best player and the only one who can singelhandedly turn the game around. Maybe Tevez is up there, but Messi is our best player.

samuel has not spot in the WC. he is horrible, makes too many mistakes. i dont understand him at all he should just die somewhere. Aimar was an excellent player. when he was on river no one could even touch him, but i dont think this was a very good season for him. if u need a replacement for riqueleme then y not el tano gracian(on velez) the kids freakin dam good. as for el pupi id say he is alot better than Coloccini but im shakey with el pupi. i hate Coloccini more than anything and for scaloni. i dont even know him. i say el negro ibarra for the right sideback spot over all of them.zanneti has had 3 chances for the wc already so idk about him. defensive midfeilder spot i would also put gago

Man, everyone is getting real anxious huh. I just wanted to agree with some people. I do think Messi is the best player on the team, that being said it shouldnt mean that the team should rest on his shoulder, the guy is 18 years old. I still believe that the team will go as riquelme goes, thats why i think Aimar should be on the squad. If riquelme is having another bad game and he decided not to make any efford on running, who is gonna be his replacement??? To me it is aimar, he is the only Pure playmaker in my eyes, Messi could be that as well, but I like how Barca uses Messi, if you have noticed when Barca plays with both Ronaldinho and Messi in the game, it is Messi that seems to creat more chances for his team, the reason is so much of the focus is on Ronni. So having riquelme on the right and messi on the left will be deadly. But again what happens when riquelme has a bad game??? who will be the visionary if Aimar isnt there? just wanted to know yalls thought?

I won’t believe it until somone posts a link that says the squad is finalised. I cannot believe he he has left out Zanetti. I’m looking for the official list and cannot find it anywhere.

It has been said all coaches have to submit their squads by tonight with fifa announcing this on Thursday to make it official.

I agree with Tevez, the list probably will be:

ARQUEROS:
Roberto Abbondanzieri (Boca)
Leonardo Franco (Atlético Madrid)
Oscar Ustari (Independiente) replacing LUX (River)

DEFENSORES:
Roberto Ayala (Valencia)
Nicolás Burdisso (Inter)
Fabricio Coloccini (Deportivo La Coruña)
Leandro Cufré (Roma)
Gabriel Heinze (Manchester United)
Gabriel Milito (Zaragoza)
Lionel Scaloni (West Ham)
Juan Pablo Sorin (Villarreal)

MEDIOCAMPISTAS:
Pablo Aimar (Valencia)
Esteban Cambiasso (Inter)
Martín Demichelis (Bayern Munich)
Luis González (Porto)
Javier Mascherano (Corinthians)
Juan Román Riquelme (Villarreal)
Maximiliano Rodríguez (Atlético Madrid)

DELANTEROS:
Hernán Crespo (Chelsea)
Lionel Messi (Barcelona)
Rodrigo Palacio (Boca)
Javier Saviola (Sevilla)
Carlos Tevez (Corinthians)

Since yesterday there are strong rumors about Cruz, Aguero and Ibarra replacing Saviola, Airmar and Zanetti. Cruz and Ibarra are playing far better than Saviola and Zanetti, and Aguero must be in order to achieve experience for the Sudafrica’s world cup (this is the reason of the replacement of Lux by Ustari)

Regards,
Marcelo

well our great team is announced, but cant belive why on earth he would leave out Alsendro, Zanneti, samuel
they were the best in their positions when compared to the present choices. all these arg. coaches are shit men. even the precederrs did they same and our team was thrown out of the world cup. But i have my own fears that Argentina the Flambouyant Argentina will win the World Cup let alone The Great God help it win

iam not the argentinian, but i love argentine team, but i was so surprised that the pakershit didn’t choose zanetti and samuel on the team,BUT that was the real problem for argentine who have a lot of talents ,but i think the major problem was on the goally, why pakerman always choose the dumb aand crab like abbondazieri in the first team, instead of franco, ithink the weakness in the defender is on the dumb shit like abbondazieri, who always made a blunder and many mistakes,so what do you think?
