Interesting points - all of them. Althought I agree that Scaloni doesn’t deserve to play a single match - I believe Palacio can turn heads. That kid is a marvel, he can score goals and dribble - even better than Aimar I’m afraid to say. Then again he’s hasn’t been tested on the European stage. But I have always believed talent is talent - no matter where you play - and the Argentina league is up there.

Well this is who we thought would play and I think the decisions our sound. I think that it is very defensive but obviously he can jolt the game by introducing Messi, Aimar, Tevez or maybe even put in Lucho for Cambiasso. What this line-up tells me is that he wants to defend first and let the game unfold from there. As the tournament goes on there will be injuries and changes in tactics. I dont believe that this will be the starting line-up in the Knock out stages. Go Argentina! Also I think that Messi is ready but could have an advangage subbing in when the ivory Coast slows dowb a little. I have watched them play and they come out hard and as the game goes on they slow. We should play a possesion game the first 20 minutes and make them chase. They will tire.

Riquelme in inconsistent and loses his cool often - I rather have Aimar. Palacio does not have enough physical prowess yet at this level. Tevez, Messi, Crespo up front can cause havoc and are good defensive forwards to disrupt the defense to go out with a set play. Argentina can win the whole thing if one of their stars comes out as a leader like Maradona did in 86 and Kempes, Pasarella did in 78. Right now there is no leader figure. Vamos Argentina!

Dude, the leader figure is Riquelme. He schooled Inter Milan remember? He was the driving force @ the confederations cup. He will be the driving force yet again. People underestimate him drastically. He schooled England in November. He is our # 10.

i think the main thing to worry about is Pato in goal….he makes me so nervous, its too bad about Lux’s dad, i would have loved to see him in action, he did great during the olympics!

All the talk about Messi needing to be in the line up reminds me of ‘78 when the world was calling for Maradona. Menotti kept him off until ‘82 and for good reason, as he showed how imature he was (being sent off for a cleats up tackle on Brazil).
While Messi is world class (don’t get me wrong), I don’t think Pekerman wants to bring him along so fast, that he starts and plays every minute (even if he is fit). What happens when he shows his immaturity (as he did in his first international earlier this year). As a coach, you go back to Saviola who has been replaced in favor of Messi, what do you think Saviola’s state of mind would be at that point? F U you benched me for a kid and now you want me to play?

Also, this is a similar line up, at least up front, to the one that schooled Brazil in the qualifiers.

Everything can accept except the inclusion of saviola instead of tevez. We argentinean fans are going to pay for it.

I share the fear regarding Pato. you cannot allow silly rebounds in front of the likes of Drogba, Van Nistelrooy, Ronaldo, Rooney, Shevchenko, etc.
But anyway, starting lineups do not stay static through the different matches. And with the quality of the bench, you can always make changes in the 46′.
I’m happy with the 10 field players. We are more tan IC, and we must win against SM, so we arrive already classified to the last match. I don’t want a must-win situation against the NL. And you even may be able to give the key players some rest (have you seen how many injuries there are everywhere????)
I think that IC are overestimated. They couldn’t beat Chile, who ended almost at the last position in the qualys. They have a killer like Drogba, but we are definitively more than that.

Where was Maradona???? Why did he not participate with Pele as planned? What is wrong with that lowlife! How demoralizing to the argentinos to have to deal with this one man’s crazyness. He’s a drug addict that stopped doing drugs, which was a “symptom” but the illness stays…forever. He must be the center of attention, and by his absence may emotionally affect the country’s team! What a selfish bastard.

Maradona is in Havana with Fidel and his jineteras. ajnyhc - if Riquelme is our leader we are in trouble. I just hope that Pekerman does not overcoach “a la Bielsa” and make Argentina their worse enemy.

There’s like… 5 good players on that list (ayala, mascherano, riquelme, saviola, crespo), and the most important one is not having a good time lately (i’m talking about Riquelme), so if we win is just because ivory coast is junk. We’ll prolly win 3-0 or 4-0 though… I’m personally not worried about Ivory Coast, i just think the team is very poor.

Argentina have a weak defence. Robert Ayala is old and Gabriel Heinze is not match fit. The full backs are ok but I see some goals conceded by Argentina

A note about Maradona: I was watching the Germany vs Costa Rica game today and the Univision announcers said they ran into him on the elevators. I didn’t watch the opening ceremony, but im assuming from what was said earlier that he didn’t participate with Pele and the likes. Which is fine with me because Pele is so two faced and full of himself, he has Blatter so far up his ass he can’t take a shit with out asking him for permission first!

Argentina have twice played their opening game on 10 June, and on both occasions they went on to lift the trophy (1978 and 1986).

i’m sorry to say, Perkerman doesn’t look a good coach, and argentina does’t look the world cup squad that may win the cup, sorry sorry , i love them to win, but it will be very dificult ,
i saw Italy , look at the world cup squad how they playing, what a great defence, midfild , attack , what a great coach Libe, portoagl also they look a very good team you can see that there is a good coach behind, great Scolari ,
cheque, Holand, , , i think argentian’s squand needs allot allot of work,
Ayala, Crespo, Requilmé ( even he is very slow but he can make goals) and some how Mascherano and Heinz these only 5 players look as wold cup champions ,
we need to play like Italian player , NO ball missed , great great positioning on the ground , no spaces , great difence great goal keeper,, befor attack think in the difence,
ohh again , i think very less chances to win this would cup in fornt of Italy and Brazil ,
Perkerman should stop droping in Love with his juniors players,
i’m sure if Carlos Bilardo or Alfio Basilé were there you will not see 60% of these players ! Cambiasso ahh, simling and looking afraid on his legs while Ayala is fighting in the defience
sorry again , this is not the would cup team
