Riquelme Recovers, Aimar Returns

April 28th, 2006 | By: WC Bob | 14 Comments »

While Pablo Aimar is recovering physically, Juan Roman Riquelme is recovering mentally.

Aimar is ready to return to action for Valencia this weekend after recovering from a bout of viral meningitis. “If they want me to play, I’m fit enough to play on Sunday,” said Aimar. “I didn’t see the World Cup in danger because they told me it was not serious. Apart from a wonderful headache, I felt well.”

Meanwhile, Riquelme says he feels bad about his Champions League penalty kick miss, but he is also pleased with what Villareal has accomplished this year: “I am responsible for taking penalties and sometimes you score, others you don’t. But I am proud of my team and what we have achieved because we have had a marvellous Champions League campaign.”

Riquelme played superb.but he is human beings & we all know tht to err is human.frm some othr aspect its good tht have lost, bcoz now he can get complete rest so tht they come with fresh blooded in WC-06…i also want both Aimer & Messi do not waste their much energy for playing now….let Ronaldinho & othrs play so tht in bigger stage they can produce nothing…all Argies just go & light the fire in the field.

Good. I want to see Riquelme score a penalty to restore his confidence before the World Cup.

As for Aimar, it is a very good news. I hope that Messi recovers. I really miss him. It has been a long time since I havent seen him play. I used to wait every week just to catch the barca game. :(

Good news! I would like to see Messi get a few minutes in the Champions legue final, but I have a feeling it will not happen. And if he does not play against Arsenal, I am worried about his match fitness leading up to the WC. He has to get intothe swing of things again before the WC kicks off. So, does anyone know if Argentina have any build up matches before the WC? I remember hearing something about Argentina playing an African team in Naples on May the 30th or something like that…

I’m not at all worried about messi, aimar, heinze or any of our injured stars. I believe they will be fine for the world cup.Only one thing intrigues me.

WHO’S GOING IN GOAL?

argiebargie, I believe that is the million dollar question for our side. I am guessing that against Angola, Pekerman will field a different goalie each half (his top 2) and go from there. I believe Ustari was supposed to play against Croatia or England (did not bc of some minor injury) so, I would not be surprised if he turns out being an option. Moreover, there is strong support from the homeland for this young talent.

Aimar scored a goal this afternoon, valencia won, so no problem. Pablo looks as if he was reaching a high level, he’s now 26, he’s mature, why not riquelme on the bench and Messi and Pablo leading the Argentina offenses ? After all riquelme is so slow near Aimar and Messi.

From France.

Because Aimar is not capable of controlling the tempo of the game and distributing killer passes and dead balls like Riquelme does.

“why not have both of them on the feild?? ”

Well, some would argue that having Riquelme/Aimar/Messi/Tevez/Crespo on the field would result in a very unbalanced side. Thats why we need guys like Cambiasso who can give us some much needed balance in the midfield, both offensively and defensively

Here we go again…It has been confirmed from someone in the medical staff of Barcelona that Messi will not be fit for the CL final. I am starting to realize that he will not even be fit for the WC. I know you will all say that I am way to pesimistic about this, but just wait and see, I am afraid I will have right on this.
How the hell could that injury be this serious? I just want to cry….

Dont stress, the injury is taking longer to heal because of messi’s impatience to play again, and you cannot blame him wanting to get match fit again asap. If he does what the doctor says then he will be fit. He’s realised now that he has recently jeopardized his chances playing for barca in the champs league semi finals and finals and now risks ruling himself out of the world cup if he doesnt take it easy. For the people not living in Uk, you should see how crazy people are going over rooneys injury and are already admitting defeat in their bid to land the world cup.

Aimar is one of my heroes in soccer but unfortunately this year his playing is not as superb as past years.. that’s why he often being substituted when playing for Valencia and only become a substitute for Riquelme in Argentina team. My dream is to see him being a core team along with Riquelme, Messi, Tevez, D’Alessandro and Saviola in the Germany… What a superb team it will be…
