Put that in your pipe and smoke it

So the first half is over and Serbia & Montenegro have had absolutely no answer to the poetic yet ferocious attack of the Argentineans. Jose Perkerman said before the tournament, that the tactic would be to hold the possession around the penalty area and create tension before unleashing a strike when least expected.

This has come to pass and S&M have struggled to find answers. Maxi Rodriguez who was an extremely controversial pick, has gone from zero to hero in this tournament.

Maxi has been picked as part of the total football philosophy, first perfected by Rinus Michels. The theory has your team members with the skills to play different positions as the game demands. Currently we have players like Rodriguez who plays forward and midfield comfortably, while our captain Sorin is capable of playing defense and attack depending on the situation.

This enables us to move from defense to attack and back at will.

What about that goal that had twenty odd passes and finished with a vicious strike from Cambiasso? It was a mix of poetry and deadly finishing. What was as heartening was the fact that Cambiasso got on the score sheet. After being dropped from the first game, this was exactly what he needed to regain confidence.

And finally a word on Saviola; A lot of us, including yours truly didn’t feel he should be starting ahead of Tevez, but he has proved all of us wrong. And to top it all off, Messi and Tevez haven’t been used yet. . But I have a feeling we will see them before the match ends.

The only downside so far has been the disallowed goal by Crespo. It was definitely not offside and the worst part was that Crespo was shown the yellow card.

That’s it for now, more after the match finishes.

edit:

As the match nears its end, we are coasting 6-0 ahead. And remember, Serbia and Montenegro aren’t a bad side. They recently performed well against Holland and lost only 1-0.

The game was drifting after the second half started. However Carlos Tevez came in for Saviola while Lionel Messi for Maxi and the game struck fire once again. Crespo got the goal he deserved making him the tournament’s leading scorer, after a beautiful pass from Messi. While Tevez dodged two defenders and struck a goal that reminded one of the great Maradonna. Messi scored the final goal, because the score sheet just wouldn’t look right without his name on it.

After the pain of the 2002 world cup, I sit here feeling all sorts of emotions. Don’t tell me Argentina aren’t looking like the best. The boys who grew up watching Maradonna have grown up and are now playing fantastic football. Now the rest of the world knows what we know.

Vamos Argentina Todavia!!

What a way to show the world that we are to be recconed with. This game proves that we have what it takes. For those that remember Mexico ‘86, today’s passing and accuracy, brought fond memories of our last triumph. The passing was flawless and the scoring was too. I was reminded today of the ‘game’ we grew up loving. The way ‘we’ play it, and the reasons we ARE one of the top world teams. If we continue this way, we will make the final match and sing and drink to yet Another World Cup Win!

Viva la Argentina! Te Quiero!

You’re right Luis about toughest opponents yet to come. But our defence surprisingly shows itself better than expected, in fact we think of it as the weak side in the team. But Ayala and Heinze, and Sorin (even attaking) are established defenders, the goalkeeper, beyond all criticism, proved secure (that’s a great relief Argentina!). Futbol connoiseurs know every match is unique, a whole universe in it’s own right. So, i know this is just one victory. But besides circumstances, Argentina played like no one did in a long time no matter what circumstances.

Great game from Argentina, magical moments and great goals. Thank you Argentina for this magic!!!
But we have to stay calm. We have not won anything yet. Next target Nederlands and then (probably) Mexico.

Vamos Argentina

Hey GUYS YOu missed me??

6-0…WOW…I DIDNT EXPECT THAT AT ALL!!

By the way Im not Serbian, Im Croatian as you guys know, but I honestly thought Serbia would of tried a TAD harder….Man they sucked ASS.

I dont even want to know what he score would be if Messi and teves were in the whole game…

hey hey hey. wait up ARGENTINA what all that talk about being the WORLD Champ you guys are going to far, remember it was only SERBIA AND MONTENEGERO!!

ITS not like you guys played germany, or spain, or italy, you just played a team ranked 4o something in the world, itwasnt that big of a surprise..
Plus you could see Serbia gave up after the second GOAL..

If it was Croatia against you guys it would of been a different story…Croatia probably would of beat you guys like 4-1…lol I know you guys like it when I talk trash like…

Anyways, I think Argentina did great job, it was the best game soo far in the world cup…but remember it was only SERBIA, it not like you guys played someone with world cup winning potential..that like Brazil beating Angola, there is nothing to it except a nice game with allot of goals wich makes everyone exciting….

By the way how did you like croatia game, it was kind of boring but you guys gotta addmit they played kind of good, because you have to remember they played the 5 time world champs..

Argentinas most likely opponent, if you guys finish first in the group will be Mexico…hmmm Mexico?? ahh easy right.. Then after that would be most likely GERMANY…ooo..

Did you guys see maradona?? He went nuts!! I laughed my butt off. WHo is that girl that walk with him, is that his wife or daughter??? She seems perrty young..

Anyways, just wanted to say good job, even though I wanted Serbia to win but who cares, as long as its not CROATIA right..;)

Ahh, the over cinfidence. Yes, well done , well done Argnentina, well done. Be proud. You won a game, thats good, but overconfidence, yes, from experience, i would not let that word float in your mind, because if it does, you are going to be out of the world cup befor your can say MESSI. You played reasonable. Good ball control, but then again, no real attempt by serbia. I remember Holland thrashing Korea 5-0 in the world cup 1998, and that gave us a boost, with over confidence, and we almost lost in the round of sixteen if it wasnt for the substitutes. Korea ended up bottom of the group, and serbia will most likely do the same. Nothing to get excited about. Im just giving a warning not to feel and lose all your hope if Holland wins against Argentina. You guys are a good team, but so far, you have not had a real taste of Total Football, as have almost no teams. Proving yourself can start after the group stages, because then it is Do or Die. I wish thee goodluck against the Dutch side, and ofcourse ill be cheering on for Holland, else i wouldnt be a true Dutchman. We will see who will win this match, and then we can go back and talk about your chances.

I agree with aCHi.
Maradona is the most overrated player of all time.
Any idiot can score with their hand and take performance enhancing drugs. Get over it!

Argentina should forget about Maradona and divert their energies and passions to the players that took the field against Serbia and Montenegro instead. THESE guys deserve your respect - legendary effort.

And Denis, Zivjela Hrvatska!

Brasilian And Brasil Fans always discredit argentinian football cuz they’re protected for big sponsors, they’re fashion models, superstars and posers, but they aren’t really big players

congratulations Argentina, Thanks Pekerman, Thanks all the players , i’m so so happy afther watching this great game with 6/0 victory, thanks Perkerman for listining to me, exactly what i wanted, starting by Lucio instead of Cambaisso becaouse of his weak performance vs CIV;but we are lucky that he played this game, sorry for Lucio we didn’t see him enough, hopfluly that he is risqy ingured; and to let us see Messi and Tevez, exactly what i was expecting Messi >Maxi, Tevez > Saviola,
thanks agine all the players you are 10/10 , special thanks for Saviola and Maxi they gave us the lead from the first 5 mints,
but what the fucking referee, ! !
he Booked Crispo didn’t accepte the goal , ther was no offside,
and there was a penalty against Crispo himself , for the second match a bad referee, i’m afraid only from these fucking referees ,
anyway we are satisfied by 6/0 great great Argentina, show the world how the football is

Argentina 4 - Holand 1

Aptly said, the match was like a smoking pipe. Messi is one of my most favourite players on this planet. Lately Saviola has become one too. It was sheer delight to see both of them play. This was the best show of soccer I have seen in the world cup. Great team Argentina. It is a victory for Argentina, however more so, it is a victory for Soccer. I look forward to more dazzling performances from Argentina, especially against Holland.

Vamos Argetina.
There is one team that is showing all other how the beautiful game is meant to be played!!
Peaking too early?? Well no point in peaking after the finals. I am a huge brazilian fan but when I see a team who plays like Argetina , then i have to support and love this team.
And Messi ahh Messi. I have watched him all season with Barca. This young man will become the maestro….

Here comes Denis Susac,

Some people have no capacity to feel ashamed. Hate will take you nowhere.

God gave us the ability to recognise talent and acknowledge it but Denis isn’t endowed. What waste!

Am I the only person on earth to notice that Crespo DID NOT score the goal in the 78th minute (vs. Serbia+Montenegro,
June 16)? Watch the replay carefully and you will see that the ball was kicked into the goal by the right foot of S+M’s #10, Stankovich. The crappy ESPN commentators, the NY Times correspondent, your own “liveblogger” and MANY others missed this! And FIFA still credits Crespo with making this goal!

Does anyone knows what the argentinians are singing during the game? It´s´a song which never ends….(it´s at least how it seems) and goes (surprisingly!) like this “oooole ole Argentiiiiina…..” Any clue???

thanks!
