Messi Ready to Play, Just not Full 90 Yet

May 21st, 2006 | By: WC Bob | 51 Comments »

Lionel Messi arrived back home on Sunday and will join the other 22 players at the training ground on Monday. Messi told reporters that he is not fit enough yet to play a full 90 minutes, but that, “I have come to play.”

He also mentioned his disappointment in not having Lux, Zanetti and Aguero selected for the team but he is ready to go to battle with the guys who were selected.

“Every player dreams of being in the World Cup and winning the championship. Let’s hope that happens to us,” he said.

It will be very interesting to see how many minutes Messi plays against Angola when they meet on May 30. He needs to see some live game action but you don’t want to put him at risk of aggrevating this injury.

Not Riquelme, Not Crespo, Not Messi… Argentina’s hero in this world will be TEVEZ!!!!

We will win the world cup through his brilliance… and we will kick Brazil’s ass in the finals!

And then Tevez will have a miserable time with Corinthian fans, because he destroyed Brazil in the WC… and he’ll move to some European Club after the WC!

You just watch….

HIDUP ARGENTINA! ARGENTINA ZINDABAD!!!

The thing is about Crespo is he is the man that is their at the right time and place. He can tuck the ball away in the box and is very good at it.

It would be wrong to rely solely on Crespo for goals. Tevez has got to help him as well.

How can anyone judge his form as he has hardly played this season which is terrible.

Veron was always only good for the Italian league. Apart from the easy group in 1998 that was it from him.He had two world cups as the centre piece of argentina. He didnt do it. Bring on Riquelme.

Ariel Ortega is another player after Veron who angers me because he had do much ability. He was the most skillful player since Maradona and he hit destruct button as well. He could have made it but decided it was more important to be contraversial.

Stop criticising Crespo. He did WELL ENOUGH in this season.

What is wrong with you ? If Freakin FIGEROA WAS A HERO IN THE CONFEDERATION CUP.

What does that tell you ? No matter who is playing in teh attack our Midfield will supply him with MANY OPPORTUNITIES.

AND CRESPO IS OUR BEST STRIKERS AND ONE OF THE WORLDS ELITE SO STFU PLZ.

Crespo is one of the best finisher with another argentine: Trezeguet.

The only problem: DEFENCE!

It will be difficult if we don(t play with 3 real MD…

well if he does play in teh world cup hopefully he’ll score a million goals.. i obviously support crespo… but you guys can’t tell me he’s in the same type of form as a guy who is regularly starting for his club…he’s been on the bench a lot this season…. now last time i checked that was not a good thing..

i’m sure crespo would admit to the same anyways.. as has said pekerman…

not sure what you guys are arguing… that he’s a fantastic finisher.. he HAS been a fantastic finisher in his career…. is he right now at this critical point in time.. thats the question

CRESPO is one of the leading goalscorers all-time for the Argentine national team, what’s wrong with you guys? lol Isn’t that enough for you? Argentines aren’t known for playing in England, they play better in Spain or Italy! We all know that! Crespo kicked ass in Italy when he played for Milan. You guys have to understand, he didn’t feel comfortable there in England, it’s a cold place, nothing like Argentina or Italy. He said it many times Crespo that he didn’t like it as much as he did Italy. This is a very Argentine thing… hard to explain some things about us…

hehehe Sergio that made me giggle.

No you are right no matter how good a player is, it is his current form that counts.

I can’t help but think that an in form Crespo at the last world cup would have done more than an out of form Batistuta.

Actually the newspapers were screaming for it.

You are right… if Crespo doesn’t do well then it shouldn’t be left till too late to use Cruz as a starter.

Zanetti is over it now. Its happened and he was dissapointed but he is not crying over the decision. Same with Samuel

Here is evidence if you havn’t seen it already.

I think Zanetti knows he was unfairly dropped and rather than bitch about it he is stilling wishing Argentina well because he is putting his country and team before himself.

I salute him.

If Argentina wants to win the world cup then their defense will be very tight. Argentina probably use one striker(Crespo may be) and one supporting forward (Tevez/Messi)and from midfield Riquelme will supply the ball. But Riquelme is slow and opponets always marked very tightly, so argentina needs another atacking and creative midfielder and that is Aimar.

I would personally love to see Crespo as the hitman with both messi and tevez playing just behind as the link between midfield and attack. It would be risky as we’d have to sacrifice in other areas but what an attack! I’d also like to see Palacio get a good run-out.

Who will win the WC ?????
It’s Hard to say that Argentina has less chances to win this WC compared with Brazil, this is the truth we have to say it, it’s also hard to say that the WC winner will be an European country once the tournament organized in Europe( the hosts Germany- Nederland-Italy-and maybe UK) have great chances to win along with Brazil.
as we see in each WC there is a team which makes a great surprise to reach the semi final ( like Turkey in 2002-Coratia in 98 -Bulgaria 94) - so this time hopefully not be ( Serbia) - then i can say it’s maybe (Czech- Croatia -Sweden and Poland)
Nederland will be surely qualified who will be the second team?
Argentina has to win the first 2 matches NO WAY if they want to qualify
