Mesmerised by Messi
It seems I was not alone to think Messi was by far the best young player in the world and he outclassed Ronaldo by miles.
A recent survey of FIFAworldcup.com asked users which young player had been most impressive in the opening games of Germany 2006 and Messi walked away with 44 per cent of the 16,776 votes cast.
Messi took more than half of the votes cast in four languages – Spanish, Italian, Japanese and Chinese – and only missed out on first place among readers of the website’s Portuguese version (unsurprisingly).
Overall poll results: (total: 16,776 votes)
Lionel Messi (Argentina) – 7,401 votes (44 per cent)
Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal) – 2,063 votes (12 per cent)
Others - 1,983 (12 per cent)
Luis Valencia (Ecuador) – 1,800 votes (11 per cent)
Wayne Rooney (England) – 1,487 votes (9 per cent)
Lukas Podolski (Germany) – 958 votes (6 per cent)
Sergio Ramos (Spain) – 780 votes (5 per cent)
Philippe Senderos (Switzerland) – 304 votes (2 per cent)

It would be interesting to see Messi, Fabregas and Ronaldo all playing in the same club side.

LLC dixit: “I think tonight will be a big test for the Agentinians. They only managed a 2 - 1 win over Ivory Coast, Holland will give you a run for your money.” If I am not wrong the Netherlands had exactly the same result so what are we talking about???

YOU BITCHES HAVE A LOT OF EXPLAINING TO DO. MESSI SUBBED IN MATCH AGIANST DUTCH FOR BEING POORER PLAYER ON THE PITCH. RONALDO IS THE BEST BY FAR!!!!!!

Ronaldo, I think you meant Ronaldo is the best SO far, and not by far. But never mind, you’ll have the chance to prove how good Portugal is in your next game against the Netherlands.

Everyone knows Messi is a young talent but I think Argentineans and their fans are just hoping he’s the next Maradonna. He is nowhere near that now and has presently not shown to be better then Cristiano Ronaldo. Maybe one day but not in this tournament…Good luck against Mexico…

I guess all of this chat is about players who are younger than 22? otherwise you guys are forgetting that there is one guy that leaves both messi and cr way behind: robinho. oops, sorry to burst the argentinian bubble since here comes another brazilian but like maradona you guys will have to settle again for second best.

AURELIUS, No USA is the worst. Argentina didn’t play such a weak team last night did they? didn’t do too well either. Not as cocky now are you?

Sheesh…. Armaggedon up in here. I do believe that this was supposed to be an innocent debate on who the best young player in the WC is. I cant believe how fast it has become WWIII in this thread.
Look, everyone can agree that all the young players mentioned are pretty damn good. Messi is playing slightly better but C. Ronaldo has had to play more. I personally like Fabregas, but must concede that he hasnt played as well as Messi. Truth be told, the tournament is not yet over so no can say what the outcome is. Honestly, who gives a sh*t, individual awards mean nothing if the team that person belongs to doesnt win the Cup.
Keep the hate out and lets have a good tourney.

robinho hasnt done jack either
unimpressed

one quick point…ok not quick..anybody whos ANGRY and INsults other players to make theyr own players better have no real knowledge so they must defer to insulting other players to make themselves feel better u know jsut liek kindergarden….theres good players all over the world i think what sets argentinians apart from other countries(in my opinion being born in argentina) is that from the day were born we value and learn from our father the beauty and importance of team play….thats why we won gold medal in basketball and have the best basketball team int he world right now! im not being cocky i dont know any different i jsut think that thats why we are constantly good

it’s sometimes kind of stupidity to listen to every one’s point view, i was hearing allot of you guys talking about the combination Messi and Tevez how it will be great, instead of Crispo and Saviola, some of you would also prefer Cruz instead of Crispo, now i came to know that perkerman really knows what he is doing, after seeing all the players in his 23 list ( expect the other 2 goal keepers and scaloni ) we came to know also who should be in the start line-up and who should be the substitute, anyway i can notice the following if u r agree with me:
- Colocini is weak, although he did his best and he has good air ball recovery, if u have seen that Van Basten has substituted one player to play in the left back ‘ right back of argentian’ some dangers created in that area. maxi use to help him and leaving his job so many times
, Burdisso is better.
- Caufré is also weak, just only 2 good crosses he has done during the whole game, he is ont defending well. i think because of him and colocini the team could’t realize and the one ball touch , so many wrong passes colocini and caufré,
- in general good match once there is no strong motivation, but i’m just a little bit worry to miss the one ball touch as in first tow games, ( specially against S&M)
- the opponent is stronger ofcourse but 7 players were missing only 4 players from argentian’s side, and some of you don’t like Crispo and Saviola be in the start line-up ! ! ! ! ! ! doesn’t mean any thing against Tevez and Messi, i like both of them , and they did well, but i think the combination Crispo-saviola is better, what i like in them is that they give the ball no matter who scores
- what i don’t like yesterday is every body wants to score himself , ehh this should not happed again, just if i can contact perkerman! ! if we need to ”’ EAT ”’ the oppoenet is by the first ball touch like last tow games,
Tevez keeping the ball in his legs for long time, dribbling for no need, has done that many times, Maxi one or 2 balls ; Requilme also one or 2 balls, but Requilme doesn’t have this attitude maybe after seeing his friends trying them shooting themselves he also wants to try; or maybe some pressure that he couldn’t score yet, if we forget who scores we can score many goals.
I think because of keeping the ball for long time, and no need dribbling ( Tevez) , and the wrong passes, the bad recovery from Colocini and Caufré we missed the one touch ball passes , if you are agree with me !
- Aimar was also good, but i think we need requilem now , Aimar could play more minutes,
- Pekerman should not change the team played against S&M, this is a role in Football, once the team is doning alrigh , should keep the same combination , this is also physiologically for the players, the coach has only the last 20-25 minitus to replace players or some other tactics.

Coming from a PT fan, as most already know. I like Robinho. From what I’ve seen, he showed maturity and focus beyond his years. Messi and C.Ronaldo could learn that from him but they will dazzle too. Isn’t footbal fantastic!
Forca Portugal!

There is no Dutch no 10 anymore. Thats the difference LLC . Strikers yes young defenders yes but no 10 or a goalkeeper coming through.
As for Brazils performance yesterday it was lovely to see some of the passing (thorugh gritted teeth) but Japan again are not one of the toughest teams in this tournament .
Yet the Brazilian defence was openend more than once .A team who played like Australia or Croatia to a set plan stifled them & in both cases deserved a draw.
Anyway lets focus on our game. I think it will be a double sucess this weekend. The Pumas beat the All Blacks & Valdanito scores to take us through to the QF.

LLC:
Shut up lease, there is no argument in what you say so you are useless and silly especially to say that holland is much better footballing side than Argentina, especially after the 0-0 where Holand did not exist.
Fuck you

OMAR and others:
I AGREE WITH you ! (I correct your mistake)
We saw Maxi R. , Tevez and even Messi playing for themselves and for the team. I felt they were getting too confident after the win against Serbia. They think they won because of themselves, but it is false, they won because of the team play. Tevez and Messi are more impressive than crespo and Saviola because they dribble, but in fact the most efficient players are crespo and saviola, who pass the ball. I think the players who dribble are generally overrated (The most overrated is Robinho) because they look very good, but in fact their dribbles are usually useless. Messi and tevez must learn “el toque”.
Cristiano Ronaldo is the most overrated player on this website, this guy CANNOT be compared to Messi.
Messi>>>>> everybody
then
Tevez>=Robinho=Cristiano R

Lionel Messi is 19, just 19 and has already proved he has more ability than most proffesionals in there prime. He is the next Diego Maradona and could even be better if he wanted it. Messi turns the game on its head everytime he comes off the bench for Argentina Fact.

I have seen Messi for the first time playing in Champions League against Chelsea. I have been watching football for a long time and I have not seen so far such a player. His style is simple and not very spectacular as that of ronaldinho or others. But, no other player in the history of football makes his opponents look so ASLEEP and so HELPLESS as MESSI. I really love to see this guy playing. His style is so inspiring . He is searching always for the most optimal and effective solutions. Messi will definitely not be a second Maradona. He will simply become Messi, and unique in his fation and a king discoverer of pure football fascination. Wait a minute…isn’t he already???

I was right.. Mexico did score to goals! Unfortunatley one of them was in their own net.. they were robbed and should have won!
