Hopes… and Dreams, reality?

As the matches begin next month, a new generation of Argentine players are ready to take the stage and represent the national side in what seems to be one of the most promising world cup campaigns for the country yet.

After a hefty crash out of the World cup in 2002, the team is hoping to put their bad memories aside and begin a fresh campaign to reclaim what has long been forgotten to one of the competitions favourite nations for winning the cup.

However, according to Pekerman, things are not the same this time round: “We are heading into Germany as just one more national team, without the baggage of being favourites. That’s going to let us start this tournament much more relaxed,” Pekerman said. “Now all the pressure is on them,” he added, referring to defending champion Brazil.

Despite being drawn into one of the toughest Groups, “the Group of Death”, Argentina claim to have one of the most balanced teams in the world, with an exceptional variety of strikers, including the lights or Carlos Tevez, Crespo and Messi!

Nevertheless doubts have been cast over Argentina’s chances. Out of the two friendlies played this year, Argentina were defeated 3-2 by England and Croatia after having led the game until the final minutes.

Uncertainties, regarding the current goalie for the nation have been contemplated, but only 6 players from the previous cup will be playing in Germany. Coach Pekerman still remains with 20% of the team undecided.

Does Argentina have what it takes to lift the Cup or will the campaign end in another tragedy?
