Hidden Considerations

It seems that everyone agrees that Scaloni has been a somewhat scary weak link and nobody is particularly eager to see what the Germans might do to him…I’d be the first to put Burdisso back in…However there is an enormous somewhat HIDDEN risk in starting with either Lucho or Burdisso, and it’s this: If either Burdisso or Lucho has to be substituted for, Argentina will lose what I strongly feel is their ace-up-the-sleeve…bringing in Messi, Tevez, Aimar against tired legs…I’m thus torn between thinking that Messi should start…instead of Cambiasso (I know that sounds crazy, but it’d work)…or hoping that Lucho & Burdisso will last the 90 minutes. Messi is legit defensively and giving him 300% more time to work his magic might be the difference against Germany. Further, I STRONGLY feel that whomever scores first will win the game and Messi greatly improves our chance of putting Germany on its heels tactically and silencing what will be scary crowd participation.

Many of you continue to comment on the absence of Zanetti, but to me the only regret has been not Zanetti, but Ibarra…Imagine if we had had Ibarra playing! It’s interesting how I wouldn’t have thought it beforehand, but now it’s crystal clear to me that he’s the missing element in the defense.

I would rather bring on Messi in the second half, as it would bring a boost to the attack in case we havn’t scored.

If we put out Messi from the start and then sub him for Saviola, it would be less logical as Messi can bring alot more magic to the field than our old pal Savi.

Also, I don’t think Messi can play consistently for 90+ minutes.. therefore bringing him in later in the game would cause more problems for the German defense as he is alot more flexible and skillful than Saviola.

In other words, start from the basic team, and if we dont get the results, add messi, tevez and aimar to improve the attack dramatically.

Nah… Messi is the perfect super sub right now. Young, fast and has good technique.

Going against people who are already tired, his characteristics are lethal.

Argentina’s training camp is rife with speculation
===================================

Argentina’s training camp is rife with speculation and that’s mostly because coach Jose Pekerman seldom speaks and often reveals little to the 300 or so journalists travelling to cover the team. Two injured players, right back Nicolas Burdisso and midfielder Luis Gonzalez, could be fit for Friday’s quarter-final match with Germany in Berlin.

If Pekerman chooses the two, he would be returning to his starting lineup in the 6-0 landslide victory over Serbia-Montenegro.

If those two come in, defender Lionel Scaloni and midfielder Esteban Cambiasso would be out.

Popular midfielder Pablo Aimar, the starting playmaker on the 2002 team, has played little so far. Some are pushing for Aimar to replace Cambiasso.

That would allow the imaginative Aimar to team with Juan Roman Riquelme, who has been Argentina’s playmaker in this World Cup.

Others keep pushing for the young strikers to play more - 19-year-old Lionel Messi and 22-year-old Carlos Tevez. But don’t look for either to replace Hernan Crespo and Javier Saviola in the starting striker roles.

ameyta Ibarra has played here for Espanol Porto & Monaco & of course for Boca.

Hes very solid but I think his age will preclude him from any future squads.

People like Paletta will come into the frame.

Is Burdisso 100% fit though ? We cant afford to carry injuries & have a player break down thus depriving JP a tactical substitution for a simple replacement one.

For sure Klinsmann gameplan will involve the tight marking of Riquelme man to man. Aimar for Cambiasso is thus a viable option.

PS Germany have doubts over Klose & Ballack but they will be in the game .Let them play their game we must play ours & not fall as Tevez has mentioned & Messi in interviews today an aerial game

Germany will have practised their corners over & over so I hope & am certain JP has practised these too.

After the poor marking for Mexicos first goal we cant afford a repeat of this.

Brazil gave up to simple headed goals in 98 & never recovered.

Lets get one thing straight about this game. Germany has not played a team with near the talent of Argentina in this World Cup. When the draw was done germany were almost a gurantee to advance to the knockout stages. Germany are over hyped and if Argentina play their game we will win 3 to 1. Lets not get so caught up in the fact that Germany has looked good against poor teams. I have no doubts that Holland or Ivory Coast would have beaten Sweden. Before the World Cup started who would you have rather played Italy, Brasil, England, or Germany? I would have taken Germany and still would. If we give a good effort talent and skill will win out. Go Argentina!
