GAGO sold to REAL MADRID for $27 million dollars

December 21st, 2006 | By: Messay Getahun | 28 Comments »

As expected Fernando Gago is taking one step closer in trying to become Argentinas New Fernando Redondo. I hope and pray Gago will end up being a great player. I hope Real won’t mess this kids career. I hope he shines as he has shined for Boca and For the Argentina U-20 team.

I hope he becomes our new Redondo. The only thing is, Redondo wasnt as great for the National team as he was for his club(because of some coaching issues). I hope Gago succeeds greatly for the National Team.

Real has paid a load of cash for Gago, obviously he is worth it. He has been amazing. He is also only 20 years old.

I believe Higuain is most likely to play for Argentina, do you guys think having Gago with him will motivate him to play for Argentina? after all he only wanted to play for France because he wanted to make big money, but now that he has………..

So let me ask you guys a question.

as Argentina fans, Are you now a REAL fan or a BARCA fan????

Real = Higuain, Gago

Barca = Messi

as for me, all i have to say is Vamos Messi

Cambiasso will be out, that guy is to slow and cannot defend very well and his individual skill is lacking. Still can’t understand what everybody see’s in this guy. Sosa, Gago and Mache will take over the mid…Basile will not realy on this guy and his ball control. Barca showd there true colors losing to Inter de Brazil…how embarrassing…So Vamos REAL, a los tiempos de Redondo!!!! Forza Inter por ser tan Argentino como yo, Dale Kun que todavia no saben lo que es futbol en Espana!!!!!!!

JASON : LOL you’re funny !
Just have a look to interanzionale milano games since 2 years, Cambiasso is every where. He’s very technic and has a great stamina. Too slow ? lol, he is not fast but is the seed needed as a central midfielder ? NO ! You should know that speed is only required for strikers or side players.
I make fun of you because do you think Crespo is fast ? Crespo is as fast as cambiasso though Crespo is a forward, though Crespo scores a lot… Stop writing Bull sh*ts please

Riquelme must leave Villareal this winter. He isn’t ambitious at all. He is wasting his best years there. Our players must play in the best European clubs. Obviously. They need to be used to win trophees before playing WC 10. He wanted to come back to Boca lately. He really disapointed me.

I love Crespo. Did you noticed that this guy always get injured or get in bad shape before great competitions like WC or Copa, in order to be more competitive? In Italy, people also say that he generally plays better during the last year of his contract. I’m your fan Hernan. Because of your talent and because you love your country so much. I will never forget Crespo and Heinze’s faces during each hymn at WC 06. These guys were crying. love these guys. They did their best for the NT.

I hate Barca because of Ridjkaard, always trying to destroy our players.

I hate Real because they wasted Zidane’s end of career. He became more individual because of them. I hate Real because they did marketing and not sport, with Perez and will continue with Calderon. Capello never wanted Higuain. He’ll never play. Capello wanted Gago in order to have a sub for Guti. These two boys will regret having dreamed of this club.

Cambiasso is a good player, but in 4 years, he will probably not be the best. At Inter, he’s essential. Gago and Mascherano are the future. But don’t forget that argentina reveal great players each year!

I finally saw Daniel Bilos playing last day. This guy is a monster and could be useful for the NT. Height: 1m94! The guy is not that bad technicaly and always runs. Pleasant surprise. The problem is that he never plays at St Etienne, stupid coach (a young Argentine player is also there: Piatti, Omar da Fonseca is their recruiting manager).

I think, Cambiasso should be a starter without a doubt, he has proven himself in higher competition, he is a wellrounded player, that isnt to say Gago isnt or Mascherano isnt, but in all reality, it should be Mascherano teaming up with either Cambiasso or Lucho. Now days lucho is starting to play a bit of an attacking mid.

kun is a little jackrabbit - it was great to see him burn thuram and puyol (it was also fantastic to see dinho playing the way he did)

Dept la Coruna is rumored to be interested in Cavenagui. I really hope this is true.

Boca rejected a bid for Palacios from Barcelona.

There is a lot of trouble brewing in Villarreal between Riquelme and upper management. Roig just went out and sort of bad mouthed him to the press! Talk of attitude problems and lack of respect for Pellegrini, and discord with other players even. ???!!!

To the Arg people who post here –Albo, etc. — can you tell me if Roman is known to have attitude problems? What’s going on here? (Please no roman bashers, I just want to get some background here)

A very boring Inter this week end.

Zanetti was a real MONSTER this afternoon. What a game he did. The best. A tractor. He played in midfield. In center, next to Cambiasso.

Crespo was in bad shape. He needs to rest. Always trapped and marked by many guys. But he had almost scored a wonderful volley at a moment.

Solari played 2 mn. This guy was a sub all his career. Real Madrid killed him.

Cambiasso went out at half time. He’s a good player but i believe he doesn’t press enough his opposants. At WC 06, i remember he used to “look” them play. With the ball, he’s good but without, there are problems. For our NT, the defensive MD is a key player. To assist Mascherano, we need a tiger, a man who never stops running and who plays with his heart. We had Sorin and Almeyda. We need that kind of man for 2010. what do you think WamDiego and the others?

Alexa, being a Boca follower, I’ve seen Riquelme a lot.
I always admired his talent, his finesse and his ability to keep the ball under control, even with 2 or 3 defenders on his battered ankles.
But as it has been mentioned before, his position as “enganche” has been pretty much neutralized by today’s defenses and when that happens (look at strikers too) only the ones who want to win very badly and persist at all costs, succeed.
Unfortunately, Roman not only shows signs of long term frustration, he also seems to have issues with depression. This is only my opinion and I’m not an expert.
But when you see a close up of Ronaldinho during a game, any game, 99 times out of a hundred his smiling, he’s enjoying himself.
Roman is the opposite. His face shows how unhappy he is.
May be he believed that it was expected of him to be the MVP of WC06 and he totally missed the mark.
Now he looks disappointed in himself. It’s too bad, he’s one of the last real “number 10s” left in the world.

Fair, you can compare Cambiasso to Gago because they share the same position, but Lucho Gonzalez is an offensive midfielder. If you replace Cambiasso with Lucho, you should explain the rest of your tactical changes and how do you keep the team balance.
I believe that if Riquelme had had Gago instead of Cambiasso during WC06, things would have been a bit different.
I love Cambiasso, as a player for Inter and as a public figure who makes us Argentines look so good out there (for a change)…
But I think Gago is a notch above Cambiasso, at least in that position of double-5, complementing Mascherano, who right now is irreplaceable.
One last thing about Gago. This is not a particularly flashy player. He has a decent technical development and he’s elegant (like Redondo), but what Gago does best, is he always shows up at the right spot, ready to help any teammate get out of trouble.
Gago is the midfield “facilitator” that every team needs. That’s why I said that with him along, Riquelme would have been a different player. Saludos

Thanks Albo for your point of view. Lucho is a very polyvalent player (but not only, playmaker against Germany). Pekerman generally used him as a central midfielder. Remember: Cambiasso played the tuff/combativity matches and Lucho the games where creating/building skills were needed. Lucho is very technique. That’s why he is used as a playmaker at Porto. At River, he had that role too but also helped Gallardo to create. If Riquelme, doesn’t come back, he could be the one who would stabilish and slow down the game. But i admit that Roman had outstanding skills. What a player he was. I’m writing at the past. It’s a bit sad but it seems that the best of his carrer belongs to it. If only he could go in a big club and gain some confidence (Barca destroyed him?). Come on Roman, go to Inter and start winning everything!

THanks Albo. I do believe that he has issues with depression, if that’s the correct term. He’s so beautiful to watch, a real artist. Anyone who is in love with futbol, its essence, loves him. I think he’s a lot like Maradona in that they have both been almost burdened with their talent, like they have had a hard time dealing with the size of their talent. R isn’t the partying type, but he majorly internalizes.

One thing i always admired about Ronaldinho is how natuiral he is about his talent. He seems so at ease with the fact that he’s amazine, and that he has gazillions of dollars. That’s incredible to me.

I love Dinho to death, I thank the soccer gods for him, but my heart belongs to ROman. He’s just a special playmaker. He is such a melodramatic figure!

I was troubled to hear stories about him being disrespectful to Pellegrini and ungracious to his teammates in VReal because they seem so out of character with how he is portrayed elsewhere.

cambiasso has been such a revelation to me seeing him play for Inter, becuase he wasn’t that effective with the NT. He’s got gorgous technique, but not very aggressive defensively.

I hope that Gago isn’t destroyed by Real Madrid. I hope that he finds a home there. I have a feeling that higuain will fall victim to the hype now that he is in REal Madrid. He will have very few chances, and he will have a hard time getting used to the change in style. He’s going to have a real battle making a name for himself in that lion’s den.’

great to hear from you, maxi lopez and fair..

By the way, Merry Christmas and Happy Holodays to all my new friends on this forum!!

Hey Alexa. Merry Christmas too! Hope next year will be the one of a long Argentina winning and deserved era!

Agree with you concerning Gago and Higuain.

When Ronaldinho arrived at PSG, i was curious. I liked him very much years then. He became a god at Barca. A marketing and FIFA god too. And i hate this, now, all the people who know nothing about people always talk about him, saying he’s the best of all time bla bla. Ronaldinho is so popular now! But Look how he’s playing nowadays. I’m the only one on earth who think he’s pathetic! He needs to rest after being used as a robot. Always dribbling and dribbling again. He used to play with his teamates last year. Now, he does useless things and tricks and often loses the ball. OK he’s always essential in Barca’s victories. But in my mind, football must be played as a team. Collective. Argentine style. I like Ronnie’s happiness. But i hate his Brazilian way of playing. Spectacular but that’s not what i love in this sport. What i want? To have the same feeling when i saw that goal, you know, THE goal of the year. ARG-SER: 2-0. That was magnificient.

Incredible: Real have Gago and Higuain and want to buy 3 Boca players! Matias Cahais, Jonatan Maidana and Ever Banega.

Inter want Bellushi.

I agree maxilopez. I love the brazilian style, but only when it’s focused, and about the team. The best of Brazilian futbol was about the team. The Brazil of the 70s played together for years, they became a fantastic team, and that goal in the Mexico world cup pretty much showed that.

It’s pretty telling, however, that the Arg goal in this world cup equals the Brazil 70s world cup goal in quality. They have lost their way in Brazil, which is a shame. Because they are so talented.

In my mind the worst showbaoting braziian is Robinho. He’s so talented, but obnoxious with all the useless moves.

Ronaldnho is a showpony, for sure. But I do like how he befriended Messi, and how well the two play together for Barcelona. Although that is a team full of surely arrogant superstars, they are really and truly a team, unlike Real Madrid.

Let’s hope that Arg still tries for their style and their quality, when so many interests are against them.

HE NEEDS TO START SHOOTING AT THE GOAL DURING FREE KICKS. GET YOUR SELF A FEW GOALS TO GET PUMPED UP! I WISH THEY CAN WORK OUT A DEAL TO KEEP HIM WITH BOCA, BETTER YET RIVER.
