Argentina

FINAL LIST IS IN

As stated by our own blogger, Tevez, here’s the list:

Goalkeepers
Roberto Abbondanzieri (Boca Juniors, Argentina)
Leonardo Franco (Atlético de Madrid, España)
Oscar Ustari (Independiente, Argentina).

Defenders
Fabricio Coloccini (Deportivo La Coruña, España)
Roberto Ayala (Valencia, España)
Gabriel Heinze (Manchester United, Inglaterra)
Juan Pablo Sorin (Villarreal, España)
Lionel Scaloni (West Ham United (Inglaterra)
Gabriel Milito (Zaragoza, España)
Nicolás Burdisso (Inter, Italia)
Leandro Cufré (Roma, Italia)

Midfield
Esteban Cambiasso (Inter, Italia)
Javier Mascherano (Corinthians, Brasil)
Luis González (Porto, Portugal)
Martín Demichelis (Bayern Munich, Alemania)
Pablo Aimar (Valencia, España)
Juan Román Riquelme (Villarreal, España)
Maximiliano Rodríguez (Atlético de Madrid, España)
Strikers
Carlos Tevez (Corinthians, Brasil)
Hernán Crespo (Chelsea, Inglaterra)
Lionel Messi (Barcelona, España)
Rodrigo Palacio (Boca Juniors, Argentina)
Javier Saviola (Sevilla, España)

So, after all this: I certainly would have taken Aguero in front of Palacio (I would have taken Cruz in front of Palacio). I would have taken Insua in front of Demichelis, and Zanetti instead of Scaloni. All this said, this is not a bad list. If we can somehow get Ustari in the goalmouth (before it’s too late) then I’ll be very happy.

On to the next discussions, let downs and triumphs!!!

Fuck this shit. I am too depressed to say anything.

  • Rune

Me too. All I can say is; Fuck you, Pekershit!!

  • Robert Gomm

Wow, a bit surprised to see Lionel Scaloni in your squad. I’ve seen him a few times, on TV, in the Premiership and in the FA Cup Final on Saturday (I’m a Liverpool fan). There’s definitely attacking quality there (he crossed to force an own goal to make it 1-0 West Ham) but defensively he is poor. His positioning can be dreadful!

What has happened to Javier Zanetti?

Anyway, sorry about the negativity. Roman Riquelme has been a favourite of mine this season and I like Sorin – he seems crazy, which we like in England. Maybe Argentina don’t have the all round balance and quality to win the World Cup (or the recent form) but there’s certainly some real quality in your side.

    Robert.

  • Nick

Is this official? If it is, I am both happy and disappointed. Happy that Aimar is in…disappointed that Scaloni and Coloccini are in also…and of course, that Zanetti is out. Also, I would have taken Aguero or Cruz over Saviola…What is Peckerman thinking?

Ok ‘lol’ man I feel your pain. Lionel Scaloni is a piece of shit, pure and simple. I am also worried about the lack of a good center back in the side.

Forutnately Aimar is in. Hopefully him and Riquelme could start together.

Samuel hasn’t been at his best and I sorta understand. But seriously, the defense is a worry.

My biggest worry during the past few months has been regarding Argentina’s defense.

We have the best attacking talent in the world, but the defense has been letting us down.

Which is why Zanetti was important.

Also like Rob., said, Sorin is a crazy mofo. He floats all over and I don’t know how to really define him.

  • argiebargie

Im feeling numb right now. I would have never have imagined in a million years that argentina’s biggest water carrier would be left out of the squad and for whom. Scaloni, how on earth you have managed to squirm your way into the squad is beyond me.

If Scaloni plays in the world cup thats going to twist the knife into me further.

The only risk hes taken is Ustari who lets face it , wont even be considered second choice.

No way do we need 8 defenders. Their should have been an extra attacker in place of a defender.

Saviola is the other mistake for me. Palacio has been in form for boca and his inclusion is not a surprise. Pekerman has made mistakes no doubt about it.

  • Debasish Dutta Roy

This is disappointing. I am worried about the defense. Just get a feeling that we have to score 3-5 goals in each match to have a win or a draw. We surely are going to concede 2 goals in every match. It will be too easy.

Other thing I am worried about is the size of the strikers. They are all short, except Crespo. Even crespo is not that big. What about Palacio, is he big? I wish there was at least a physical presence upfront. I would have liked Cruz. In form and tall and big. Pekerman has almost cut out the chances of headers. Can only think of Ayala going up to head. Samuel was also good about it. Not sure if this is the best Argentine team.

Just try to count who are the indispensible players in their respective clubs. Not many.
I think I will be happy if Argentina goes to 2nd round. At least need to be seeded next worldcup.

  • http://B619A Pugnate

Mascherano and Cambiasso are good defensive midfielders. I am glad they are in as well.

I was so sure he’d take a gamble on Augero though.

  • Messay

Man i am just glad that Aimar is there. I think the only surprise about this list is the palacio deal, what is he doing here? mannn aguero should have been here.

  • Nick

Peckerman tiene que justificar su selecion…lo veo mal sin Zanetti…me da muchisima pena que no esta

  • http://fifa.com AL

Pekerman will regret taking Saviola and Palacio instead of Cruz and Aguero. The last to have more quality. Also, Pekerman should have had more respect for Zanetti, just as Parreira did for Cafu.

  • http://B619A Pugnate

Well Sorin doesn’t really play defender so that is misleading. These days I’d say he was a CDM position.

Also I think we’ve got enough strikers.

I don’t know why everyone is so depressed. I don’t think Scaloni will get a game. At least I pray he doesn’t.

Also to the guy who says we will concede 2-3 goals a game, come on. Be optimistic.

Actually all fans read this. Support your coach. Back up his decisions. Give your heart to your team.

If in the end it doesn’t work out, then fine scream all you want. But there is little point in getting depressed. Let’s see how the boys fare against Angola!

Suppose you bitch about Pekerman now and then his decisions work out in the end? Supporting him then would be like jumping on the bandwagon.

So be optimistic. I think the only reason Zanetti wasn’t played was because Pekerman will be using a formation not needing wing backs.

Which is actually pretty scary considering how European sides play.

  • wherejz

Where is Javier Zanetti????I can’t believe it.

  • mAssimo

Pekerman is the biggest asshole on Earth.

He’s a #$%^&* idiot, what was he thinking…? Saviola? Scaloni? Palacio instead of Cruz? Aimar in his worst physical condition? Lucho Gonzalez??? Samuel not even in the list? Who’s going to head it out of the box during set pieces against the tall Africans and Europeans?

Zanetti out of the squad…????!!!!! My goodness.

Pekerman is the new Bilardo. He sucks.

  • Quinn

Peckerman’s a dumbass its officil, he took coloccini! wat an idiot and scaloni, not to mention burrdisso hasn’t played in forever! Where the hell’s zanetti!! he’s ten times better then sorin!! I’m pissed, this was supposed to be a good cup for us and perckerman’s screwed it up!!!

  • http://lol.com lol

Man how could CRUZ be left out ? This is insane. The guy deserves his WC. We have no Aerial THREAT whatsoever. Who is going to replace Crespo ? WHo ? Palacio ? This is insanity.

How many defenders does Pekerman need ? HAVE THE DAMN BALLS TO LEAVE CUFRE OR BURDISSO. Why the hell does Pekerman insist on Scaloni ? Does he plan on playing him ? This is Bullshit. EVEN IF WE WIN, without EL PUPI winning is not the same :( .

Why Palacio ahead of Aguero ? Where is Cruz ? Why not Zanetti ? Samuel is better than Burdisso/Coloccini/Cufre/Scaloni COMBINED.

This is fucken pathetic. I am waiting for Pekerman’s explanation. :|

  • Debasish Dutta Roy

We will always support our team. There is no question about it. Even if we are 0-3 down. But there are many questions that can be raised.

Yesterday, I watched a program about bosses and it was Pekerman. I was very sure he is going to include Coloccini. He kept on insisting that he needs player who can play multiple roles. Thats why all these fringe players.

I strongly feel about the set pieces. Who is going to head in from corners Saviola? Messi? Tevez? There is no height. This is so concering. Try to think of the kind of goals these people score. Use your memory. And the opponents are big african and european.

There is no wing. Messi in right and Tevez in left will always cut in, reducing the width and cramping up. We have depend on their dribbling skills, which is good for sure.

Defense is horrible. Even I get a feeling I can get passed Coloccini and Scaloni. Heinze we are not sure about his form.

What happens if Riquelme is injured. Aimar is also not fully fit. I can understand why pekerman needs 3 DM, since the defense is bad. But who takes set pieces if one is injured and other is out of form. There was no need for so many defenders. Should have got somebody like D’Alessandro.

BTW, I do not see this list anywhere else in any website. Is this truely released.

Burdisso makes it in, but NOT Zanetti?? Aye aye aye.

  • James

I dont see any reason for not taking Zanetti. 8 defenders but no Zanetti. Pekerman, give a reason??? Skill?? Experienced?? What the hell you’re thinking??? I believe every team can easily get chances on our right side. I’ve been waiting for 4 years… But the nightmare coming again…Crying…

  • Peter

Not a bad list; I would have preferred Cruz to Saviola, but I think Palacio will do just fine……Aimar and Riquelme should not be on the field at the same time……I would have liked to see Insua and Zanetti somewhere in there (instead of Cambiasso). The defence looks great. Goalkeeping should be ok too.

  • phil

peter your crazy this list suxs

aimar and requileme must play together

  • mAssimo

I saw the list at La Nacion.com. It has to be accurate.

We have the worst posible defense. Thanks Pekershit. Holland and Serbia Montenegro must be very satisfied.

On top of that, like I said before and someone else agreed, who’s going to help out during set pieces given the height media of the squad? Cruz was SO the man to call instead of Saviola or even Palacio!

On Zanetti: he played defensive midfielder before, he could so easily have filled the right midfield position instead of say, Lucho Gonzalez…!!!! Offensively he could take the ball in three quarters and dribble it all the way to the Riquelme-Messi-Tevez-Crespo zone and beyond so easily…!!!

How can someone leave a player like this out of a WC team is beyond me…I can’t wait for his reasons on this, I’m pretty sure more than one reporter is going to ask about it…

    >:(

  • NK

Hey, this list is still NOT OFFICIAL!
The announcement is at 5 PM Argentina Time.. JP were did you get this information from bro?

    Good Luck Argentina!!!!!!!

mAssimo one of the players no one would ever complain about is Lucho Gonzalez. He is pure class. In one year he conquered the portuguese league with Porto, became porto’s captain and received praise from Jose Mourinho.

WTF DO U WANT MORE ?

  • Debasish Dutta Roy

Hope this is not the list. It cannot be. Does not quite fit into the head.

I have been doing wild goose hunt for the list. I do not see anywhere else. So hope this is not the final list.

I think it’s not fair about Javier Zanetti he’s the real EL CAPITANO.also sorry about Samuel,Cruz And my FAvourite VERON.
    from Azerbaijan

  • Nick

Where would the OFFICIAL list be posted? FIFA says it won’t put any information on the teams till the 18th of May.

  • Debasish Dutta Roy

Fifa official website for worldcup did not announce it yet.

It is not there in BBC also.

Whereas, team for USA, Brazil and Italy (just now) have been published there. No news for Argentina yet.

So there is still hope. I will keep hunting.

  • Debasish Dutta Roy

    Check

    http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/

official website for 2006 worldcup. They just published Italy.

  • Nick

Even if the list we have is not an official one, I think we must all unfortunately have to accept the prospect of losing Zanetti…It is sad because he is playing well and would surely have made a great contribution.

My hope is that we have Julio Cruz brought in and Scaloni left out. He has a physical presence which other strikers do not, and we could do with a taller player (though I am not sure how many of his goals scored for Inter have been headers?).

Anyway, if anybody has any official information, please do let the rest of us know.

  • chicago
  • RENE

I am quite shocked regarding the non convocation of Zanetti and Samuel. I thought that they were going to be key defensive players to Argentina, which could advance a lot in the tournament. Without them I doubt their chances of reaching the final however!

  • Messay

Mannnn, i feel everyone, But guys come on, come on, come on. This list isnt not bad. Heck it is great. How many teams would wish they had this list??????? i bet you outside of two teams, i am sure everyone would love to have the squad we have.

I looked at all the teams that were announces and i could only come up with one team that actually has a scary team at least on paper. ITALY looks insane.

Yall need to stop saying collocini is bad, he is not bad. He had a not so great season but these guys are pro’s they arent playing for their club teams, they are playing for the white and blue, they will die for it(i hope) so dont panic. As for air attach, man we have crespo. who else a better air threat than him???? crespo will be playing all the minutes i guarantee you. Messi will score a lot to be honest. If yall remember before he was injured the guy was scoring like crazy. He was getting into a zone. we wont have any scoring problems. As for defence, mannn Ayala has always been a stud and there is no other defender (besides Nesta) over heinz, he is amazing. and dont forget that he plays alot on the wings to. If yall remember he was the second leading scorer for manchester this season before he was hurt. He is also good in the air. He tackles very very very well(ferguson called him a tiger) Milito will be a grea CB so. I dont know why we are all crying.

I really hate that Zannetti isnt on the list, but what can you say? we will be good. Holland didnt take their best striked thier idiot coach left out a guy who scored 34 goals this year lololololol, now that is worst than leaving Zanneti.

Lets not panic, but as someone already said it here, if we do poorly then we would grab perkmans throat. I cant waite to see us play. Go Argentina

A sixth team, Argentina, hasn’t made its roster official but our bloggers seem to have the inside dirt. We find it odd that Togo’s list isn’t out yet considering the team arrived in Germany today but maybe we’re expected to name the team based on the photo of the players getting off the airplane. ABSOLUTELY.

SINCE WE HAVE WAITED SO LONG, LETS HOLD THE TENSION FOR COUPLE OF MORE HOURS OR MAYBE EVEN LESS.

    STAY TUNED!!!

  • gino

Even though peeps out there say it’s ok that we still have a good team anyways doesn’t cut it. I mean it’s just not excusable to what has happened here. Zanetti is a player that we desperately need in our defense to stabilize and fortify our chances to triumph in this tough world cup. I am totally disappointed as many of us are and am trying to think positive, but man this is really hurting.

  • Gardo

THIS IS NOT THE LIST, THE LIST WILL BE ANNOUNCED BY PEKERMAN AT 5PM BUENOS AIRES TIME. THE ONLY 2 CONFIRMED ITEMS ARE THAT ZANETTI AND DEMICHELIS ARE NOT GOING. • http://none Todd Utah

I think that you have to pick a coach and then give him the power to make the decisions. Whose knows that plans that Pekerman has for the group phase. It certainly is not his obligation to announce to everyone how he will pay each game. He is trying to pick a team that will allow him to use certain tactics against certain teams and his first obligation is to get us out of the first round. Maybe the tactics will focus on moving the ball up the center and he did not want Zanetti making the runs upfield but instead Four solid defenders and one central that will attack a little more. Lets see what the guy does first. After the first round you can complain but for now I give the coach 100% support! Maybe he will go with a 3 3 2 2 Who knows? The coach is certainly going to pick the team that gives him the best chance of winning. Lets support the team and see what happens. For you guys who are throwing in the towel go support some other team and tell me why that team will beat Argentina. I hope it is not just because Zanetti wont be there. Brasil has gone with its older defenders and I think that they are the team that will regret that decision.

  • Jonathan

Zanetti being left out isn’t surprising to me.

    Where would he play?
More than likely, Pekerman will play a 3-1-2-1-2

    Pato
    Heinze,Ayala,Sorin
    Cambiasso
Messi and Lucho on the wings
    Riquelme
    Tevez and Crespo

    That’s your starting 11.

Palacio (or Aguero) probably won’t even play if he’s on the team.

Zanetti would be great, but there’s a lot of talent on this team regardless.

    I’m excited!

  • Jonathan

    whoops,
    left out Coloccini in defense!

That starting line-up sounds awsome! I am not sure that it has enough defenders for Holland but would be great against Serbia and Ivory Coast. I dont think the other team would hardly touch the ball against an Argentina team with that kinda of skill.

I cant believe this Pekerwood left Aguero and took Crespo. Pekerman is a closet fagot. He better get a cab drivers license in Germany if Argentina looses. Can’t he open his eyes and see what a looser Crespo has been all year at Chelsea.

I dont know about Zanetti, but two major holes, Crespo and the goalkeeper. Argentina is foocked mate. I have been waiting from past 8 years, I cannot take this any longer. I wish bati and el burrito came back.

  • http://dawudabd.blogspot.com/ dwd_aimar

ok, with aimar.. but where is zaneeti, samuel, d’alessandro, cruz..? why ‘tango’ always make a blunder just in choose player.
like when bielsa choose ortega n canigia. any way ‘ADIOS’ albiceleste..!!

  • Corey

Have any of you seen Samuel play lately, he is very sloppy. As for Zanetti he is slow and has been at the foot of causing some critical goals to be scored. Aguero has not played once for the national team so why do you think he is going to call him up for the WC. Palacio is in form and is only one of 2 local players chosen. Cruz is the big striker but he is not a 90 minute player more of a sub.

Here is my problem. WHO IS THE LEADER ( vocal and communicates with everone and knows how to change the tempo. That should have been Veron ) ? No leader no winner

  • omar

again forget about Zanetti, samuel and cruz , there are useless, the first 2 they played 2 wc , and did they win ????? 2002 the have been kiked from the first round, the thired alwyas drops down on the ground to toucth the ball, useless player, Aguero is so young now but this new Maradona will surely play a major role in this coming few years with argentina’s squad like Messi as i’m expecting

let me know your opinion,, , do you like Sorin to play ?? i can’t find a place for him; ; but he is the captin , right ? ohh i don’t know where he playes , DF, MF, or FW ????
    Cruz has been selected ??

  • omar

i’m sure Perkerman will always start by
    GK:
    Abbondanzieri
    DF:
    ( Coloccini-Ayala–Heinze)
    MF:
( Riqulmé, cambiasso and Mascherano )
    FW:
    Messi, Crespo

no question about Heinze Riqulmé, cambiasso ! ! they will be always there in any formation i’m sure he likes them ! !
but tell me playing with a Libro ( sorin ) is nont useless ????i think he will make the team weak , he has no fixed place! ! but he is the captain , , ,why him ?

  • asrey

although ure didnt have a super power player………but……..they got super power team…….. they will win……..trust me

  • michael savage

i keep backing tevez on betfair at c.50-1 to win the golden boot…is he not a certain starter with crespo..or is it a case of one or the other?

  • master grax

gid.. why u all taking the piss out of Lionel Scaloni he may make a few mistakes but he is a great attacker as seen i the fa cup final and real strong and knocks people of the ball with ease. Anyway can anyone tell me if Milito will make the starting 11? i think he will but what u all think?

  • mike jacques

i wish them good luck & get get the 3rd star
