Efficient Argentina

June 28th, 2006 | By: Nick | 20 Comments »

So only a few days now, and I cannot believe how confident the Germans have become.
I find this somewhat disrespectful seeing how Argentina always treats it’s opponents with great respect.
According to the Geman coach and the players, ‘Argentina are not better’ and ‘Germany will win’.

Anyway, I have found an article which shows the statistics of Argentina and Germany compared throughout this world cup.

Have a look for yourself, it’s very interesting, specially as we seem to have the upper advantage at scoring.

Vamos Argentina, I believe this match will show Argentina’s true potential, well, hopefully :)

The German team maybe, but not the fans.

Argentina is still second favorite to win the world cup and Germany is third.

Of coarse the Germans will be in confident mood as they have yet to be scored on since their 1st game against Costa Rica. As seen in their last 3 games, when facing predictable opponents, they can surely keep clean sheets.

Argentina, however, possesses that element of surprise that Germany will find hard to predict, as well as the ability to defend in their own right.

Sorry Germany the wins stop here.

with reference to the article, Germany take more shots from long range, but geez they shoot well from there - better than any other team in the competition.

like all neutrals I’m hoping for a great game, my tip is argentina 1-0 unless germany can get a goal in the opening 15 minutes in which case germany 3-2 (because an end-to-end game will suit the germans while a defensive battle will favor agentina)

nk,
you speak of “disrespect” among germans against Argentine, while in the same blog your colleague jonathan speaks of the Germans as thiefs of the 1990 final: “you owe us your 3rd star”.

bad manners, that. here are facts: you loosed in 1990 against three time-world champion and six time-world cup finalist Germany because you shot no goal.

hope your team will take the loss on friday against gemany as real men, even if you wear your hear as long as women ;-)

anyway, let me assure you from the german position, that we as the hosts of this world cup will be friendly to our guests up to the last moment. saying that, we will show good manners and bring your team safely to the airport on saturday! dear Argentinians, welcome your players with pride, they played well at our World Cup and loosed only against the coming world champion, Germany!

:-)

okay, enough quarreling and joking, let us speak about the facts: everybody in Germany knows that Argentine was the better team over the last years. how can Germany be arrogant? our last win against a good team was a 1:0 against england in 2000.

but on friday, we see us as equals to argentine, because the Klinsmann Boys played 4 fantastic matches in this world cup and we do play at home. so? what’s wrong with feeling that we have a more than 50 percent chance?

that’s my guess:

Germany - Argentine 3:2

Klose 23., Podolski 43., Ballack 79. / Messi 83., 87.

Oh come on! Do we need to ask South America about Argentina’s (lack of) humbleness?

Yes, it’s unnecessary and unwise of Germany to get overconfident, but don’t come here saying Argentina doesn’t do it all the time.

You know, I don’t want argentina to be favorites. I don’t want any overconfidence, nor any “We respect Arg, they are formidable and stuff”. i’m afraid this will go into the player’s heads. I love Arg, but I honestly think overall Germany is VERY formidable. Everybody favorites Arg because of the S&M win- that’s not right. I’m sure Ger’s goals per game must be higher. Howver, it all depends on Arg;s mood: They can be brilliant and crush Ger if they want, but chances are that this stroke of fantastic football is 3.89 in 10…however, both teams have a 50-50 chance of winning…it’s just, too much hype, that person always loses. Look at Esp-Fra, everyone here took it basically for granted that Esp will win…

‘We’re not nervous about this game,’ Klose told a news conference. ‘Argentina were the favourites to win the World Cup but now they’ve had the bad luck to be drawn against us.’

My friend in Berlin, I think you are forgetting about the TEVEZ FACTOR!!!
Messi is just a ‘marketed’ player… He is a good player but still green, he needs more time on the squad to be considered ‘the one’.
Of course I’d love to be wrong!
Tevez has the BALLS to play this match. He used to play for money against big and tough guys while he was living in one of the most poor and dangerous places in Argentina: Fuerte Apache.
Cheers!

I think its a good thing that Germany are getting an over-inflated ego…i think underestimating us is the biggest mistake they’ll could make. That’s an advantage for us coming in as the under-dog in this match b/c for once the pressure is on the germans, whereas up until now everyones been putting the pressure on us. I think the Germans are a huge threat simply b/c of the home-ground advantage, nothing more, if Argentina can just focus on their own game, they’ll be fine. Should be a killer match on Friday, cant wait. Go Argentina!!

Mhm. Read that interview. My opinion? I think Klose showed even too much respect in this interview. quote:

“Klose is full of praise for Argentina’s attacking strength.”

If you have a look at the facts: Saviola was bad the last games, like the whole Argentine team except for Maxi’s lucky shot. Riquelme seems to be tired, Heinze is slow… the Germans know that.

Furthermore, we heared that the Argentine team trained headers yesterday all day long. Well… who seems to be dominating team then, when Argentine works hard on it’s weaknesses full of fear but Germany shows confidence about it’s strength publicly?

For me, the game is absolutely open… But some signs show me that maybe the “German story of the 80ies” or the “France story of 2002″ is happening this year for Argentine: famous names from big clubs who are not to be seen when it counts.

Let us all hope for a great and fair game on Friday!

Tevez is a great player. In Germany we know his name because Bayern Munich tried hard to get him for two or three years but he denied. Maybe right so, as the Demichelis example showed.

But I have read that Tevez does not like it when it gets physical. Well… if that is true then probably he would not be the best choice for the starting formation in a World Cup quarter final game against Germany

Los Boludos are going down with a big carrot up their ass!
They are the dirtiest players around and don’t accept to loose!
Look back at copa Libertadores what they did to Chivas and look back at their attitude when they lost to Brazil in Copa America in 2004 and Confederations Cup last year.
Fora Boludos Arrogantes!

“Jewish guy”, allow me to say that you’re an idiot. I don’t know if you’re really jewish or not, but that doesn’t make ANY difference. Germans are NOT Nazis. Thay’re so not Nazis that everything related to the Nazi regime is ILLEGAL in Germany. I also hope Argentina wins, but I’m not taking this as an opportunity to be a disrespectful asshole.

Laura,

How can you call Jewish guy an idiot? Aren’t we all are idiots at one time or another? (Remember ? :-) ) And we have to cope with it, and we generally do, don’t we? And we are generally forgiven.

But Jewish guy is mentally ill.
There is nothing to for give, but only something to give for him: That is, his friends - if he has got any - ought to get him a doctor.
