Diego, the national team, and the superclasico weekend!

April 17th, 2009 | By: Julian D | 215 Comments »

Hey guys, I thought it was about time we start a new post. Below you’ll see that I put up Maradona’s all home-based squad for Argentina’s next friendly on May 20 (opponent to be announced) in Santa Fe, Argentina.

Also let’s talk about the superclasico! What do you all think? I believe Riquelme is doubtful with a slight injury. Who is going to win? I want to see a great match!!! Maradona will be watching this game for sure!!!

As usual, enjoy yourself, and let’s continue the great discussions.

-Julian

>>>Samuel is useless>>>

>>>Gago, bench at best>>>

Wow, we got ourselves some pretty opinionated judges here in the blog.
They must know a lot about football…

Correct …and thanks for pointing it out. My opinions on players, managers and tactical play come from years of experience living and breathing football. Plus my family pedigree doesn’t hurt.

So when I say “Samuel is useless”…take it to the bank.

and lets have some discussion on argy’s in serie a, is there a bias against the Italian league? Napoli crushes inter and no-one except me mentions it. Come on amigos let discuss all our players.

regards,

You’re going to tell me that Gago deserves to play ahead of Mascherano or Cambiasso? You’re going to tell me he’s played strongly this year, ESPECIALLY compared to those two? He disappears, or worse, makes trouble for his team.

I thought the blog was for opinions…..

But you didn’t answer the question either. How is Gago better than Mas or Cambiasso? And if he isn’t, as most would agree, how is saying he is a bench player such an outlandish statement?

I think Samuel is more useful than Heinze. The only reason Heinze isn’t completely useless is because his decomposing body could provide nutrients for some fungii or plant-life to grow…

Opinions are fine . We all know that John is a troll always pretending so say something nice about Argy players when his real motive is a hatred of Inter and a love of AC Milan. He belongs on the AC Milan blog and I am sure he is already there. As for gago I think highly of him and thought he would be better for the 2010 cup than cambaisso but depending on the line up that could change . In other words if you field only 3 at the back then you have to field two defensive mids and that is why I like gago amd maschernao as a pair. When you go with four at the back I am not so sure that you need them both and of course Mascherano is better. My order of ranking is Mascherano , gago, Cambiasso, and for offense I like Lucho along side Mascherano.

“Napoli crushes inter and no-one except me mentions it”
of course you will; it seems you always look for inter to perform badly coz you are jealous about the fact that they are going to be the champions again whereas your ac milan cant even perform in uefa cup lol

your entire ac milan is USELESS AGAINST SAMUEL!!!

I’m fond of Gago, don’t get me wrong. But he has really been out of sorts as of late in my opinion. Looking gassed and confused all too often in big matches for Real….maybe he needs to change his mindset at that position or move up some, no idea.

Still a year to go though.

And to Albo and everyone else, please don’t take any of my comments as though I think so highly of myself…I don’t think I’m an expert, I just make my own observations and bluntly state what I feel…right, wrong or indifferent.

All I care about is the NT lifting the Cup in 2010…

All cool, Argentuban.
I agree that Mascherano, Gago and Cambiasso are 3 of the best def. mids in the game.
I would add Battaglia to make it 4.
4 of the best #5s in the world.
That’s how lucky us Argies are.
Any of them could have a game off, or two.
But they’re all very reliable in their position.
I notice that we all would like to see Gago playing a little more attacking football but to me he still is class A player.
Benching any of them is a crime.
I see Gago as a little better defender than Cambiasso.
Although both of them are the best.
I would start Mascherano (5) and Gago (5/8), and have Battaglia and Cambiasso as their respective subs.

And hey, if someone’s is going to be off and work out the kinks in their game…now is the time to do it. We don’t want Gago finding holes come Cup time.

As for luck at the #5, I wish we could find some of that luck in defense and goal….if we just had some solid players there, I think we’d be the team to beat along with Spain. Right now, it’s still a crapshoot for us.

Albo well spoken. If you have three at the back then for sure it has to be gago and mascherano but if you have four I think that we might get by with Just mascherano in front of the four and someone like tevez or Lucho paired with Mascherano .

——————carrizo——————————

Zanetti—–Samuel——Demichillis———Monson?

Maxi—————Tevez———————-Gutirez

Aggressive 4-2-1-3

———————Carrizo———————

Zanetti—Demichelis—Forlín—Monzón

—————Gago—Mascherano———

———————Tévez————————

Messi————Higuaín————DeMaría

More balanced 4-2-2-2

———————Carrizo———————

Zanetti—Demichelis—Forlín—Monzón

————Gago——Mascherano———

————Maxi————Tévez————

————Messi————Agüero———

Fullbacks should take the lane.
Maybe Zanetti could play a full 45 minutes.
Zabaleta could close it.

Great game by the U17.

Villalva had a stupendous solo effort goal. This was despite the fact that ARgy played a man less in the last twenty or so minutes.

Great game for the youngsters. Uruguay played well too.
