Croatia Friendly..weird call ups or not??

February 16th, 2006 | By: Kris | 10 Comments »

Diego Milito has be called up to participate in the international friendly against Croatia. I guess he deserves a call but do people really know who he is besides the 4 goals he gave Madrid. I cant see how this guy would start over Messi, Tevez, or Crespo so can someone please point out to me the reason for bringing him besides just to have his experience as a GIANT killer haha. It looks like Saviola is getting the boot which is kind of surprising since he still has the potential to tear teams up. Zanetti didnt get a call either which I think is a huge mistake. His experience, intelligence, and calmness can relax all the yungSTARS. I am fast to critic but I am just stating my opinion maybe Pekerman can bring home the trophy his own way. Than we have Lionel Scaloni getting a call for defense, this guy i dont know much about since I have yet to see him play but I do know they call him “The Bull” which cant be good for opposing offenders haha..

Tevez: 11
Crespo: 9
Saviola: 7
Riquelme: 8
Mascherano: 5
Aimar: 15

and the number 10 shirt goes to: MESSI!

Pupi Zanetti will be a sure starter for agrentina. He was not called because Pekerman wants to decide who the substitute defenders will be and needs to see Burdisso and Ponzio in action. It did not make sense to call Zanetti, a guy with 80 plus international appearances, to sit on the bench.
Riquelme will be the key player in argentina’s offensive and he will be in charge of set pieces also. Crespo, Sorin, Cambiasso have also virtually clinched a place in the starting line up. Saviola will need to score a lot for Sevilla if he wants to make the final 23. He is competing with Cruz and Milito for one of the last spots in the roster.

No certainties for what number each player will wear. Best for everyone to wait until the world cup is upon us with the squads confirmed to purchase their shirts then.

Pekerman is organising another friendly apparently in may to determine once and for all who is going to Germany. Milito scored 4 against a poor real madrid side doesnt mean he should go to the world cup for definite. Hes got to that on the world stage and i dont think he will. What about Luciano Figueroa? Has an excellent record so far for argentina in terms of goals. Havnt really seen him playing so can’t really judge him on performances. Saviola is another player who has failed to live up to early promises as a star of the future. He has started to get better now though for seville but has way much to do and very little time if he wants to get on the roster. Dont worry Zanetti is going. Pekerman looking at other players as backup but none of the come close to him. Lionel scaloni again will be looked at if he will cut the grade but i cant see him playing in the world cup. Hez on loan at West Ham and we need our best 11 on the field. I’m surprised D’Alessandro is on loan at portsmouth. This man is skillful and a good passer, and i always thought he was making strides in germany. He has made a promising debut at portsmouth so far and would offer Pekerman options in attack.

D’Alessandro doesn’t stand a chance, Pekerman obviously doesn’t like shaved heads. No, seriously, he had his chances and I think did not persuaded Jose that he should go. Demichelis, on the other hand, is likely to be in the group, his German experience gives him an edge. As for Scaloni, I think we can do with one Lionel…I’d rather have a Lucho Gonzalez (more of a playmaker and less of a cross country runner). Ok, off to watch Malaga-Atletico Madrid, Leo Frnaco must continue proving that he should be our keeper.

Im happy than if Zanetti is going. For figueroa, d’ allesandro, Scaloni, Milito they will not be playing at all even though they might be on the team. Actually D, allesandro might see some minutes but the others I highly doubt will get any IF

Pekerman is gonna get ripped apart if he messes up this year, believe.
He is struggling to make decisions on selection and tinkers too much. I dont think he has much of an idea of how to go about getting through the world cup. Constantly changing the team, i dont think no one in the team understands what he is trying to do. He needs the team to be cohesive shouldnt rely on individuals.

I am creating a post for those who are going to watch the game to leave some feedback for the rest of us. Hopefully I will be able to give some details if I can find the channel.
