Camoranesi & Trezeguet, theoretically…

March 25th, 2006 | By: JP | 17 Comments »

Mauro Camoranesi and David Trezeguet are both Argentines. Mauro is pure Argentine and emigrated to Italy in 2000 instead of waiting for the call-up from the albiceleste. Trezeguet is the son of an Argentine soccer player who played in France. He was raised in Argentina and played his first professional games there. This issue came up recently with Bilos. Thank god Messi declined Spain’s kind offer. Could you imagine if Camoranesi and Trezeguet had chosen to stay home? If Pekerman’s current problem is an embarassment of riches - what would he do with these two? I love Camoranesi and would certainly start him…

Is it true that Camoranesi tried applying for a position in Argentina but was denied because he wasn’t good enough? I’ve always been ambivalent regarding this issue… any clarifications would be great.

Not true…He went to play for Mexican Clubs before breaking into the Argentine 1st Division - so, sadly, he was never in the squarely in the sights of Grondona or the powers that be…

Camoranesi is overrated. He would not make it into the Argentina squad. No way. He is like Ortega but with much less skills. Trezeguet would have been a nice back up for Crespo tho.

I agree with lol..Neither of them would start on the national team therefore they went other places..I dont even think Trezeguet could be a backup.

Can we stop worrying about the attack and the midfield for a minute ? Jeez. We freakin have more than enough world class players there. Crespo/D.Militio/Cruz/Tevez/Aguero/Messi/Saviola. Who the hell needs a Trezeguet when we have those? Crespo’s game is completely superior to Trezeguet…any day of the week. D.Militio is not only a threat in the air but is also a very good dribbler and can score with both feets. Cruz…look at his goals/playing time ratio.

The players we have in Camo’s position ? Lucho Gonzalez, Maxi Rodriguez. And when Messi starts both of them probably wont start. How in the world is Camoranesi going to start ahead of them lol?

OFF TOPIC: Tomorrow el super clasico. LUX vs PATO. Lux is much much better IMO…we will see.

Saviola is still around, playing for Sevilla. He was injured (surprise, surprise!) for a while and has been playing again only for the last two months or so. He was hacked down by Ayala a few days ago in the Sevilla-Valencia match, and won his team a penalty. The sad bit is that he has not been scoring much, which is a pity because four years ago, we all thought he was boy wonder…

I watched the game on Sunday: Sevilla against Valencia. Saviola setup the winning goal for Sevilla, he played great. Btw: The person that hacked him down in the penalty area was the one and only Roberto Ayala (Valencia). It was a pretty dirty tackle…I noticed Argentine defenders tend to be a little too aggressive. They are good but sometimes can get carried away with their aggressiveness. Exception to this is Zanetti of course, clean as a whistle. Anyhow, I liked the way Saviola played, and wouldn’t mind if he at least was a substitute for Messi, Tevez or Crespo…

Saviola had a terrible year with all the injuries and trying to find a place in the team. But he had some pretty good games lately, so I doubt Pekerman would leave him behind. He is still a very smart player that can connect very well with any player in the selection ( ex: Crespo). Our strikers should be: Tevez, Crespo, Messi, D.Militio, Saviola and Aguero if we take six.

So I am irritated to read today that (in the vein of this discussion) the Argentine, Mariano Pernia - high scorer for Getafe (and going to Atletico Madrid next season) is being offered Spanish citizenship and a spot on the national side…How much football self respect can a country have to poach players from other countries??? This is the World Cup for christ’s sake. Soon it’ll be Argentina vs Argentines wearing foreign jerseys in the Finals.

(Also, has anyone noticed what Frutos is doing? He’s lighting it up.)

What you got to remember is that most argentinians are of european descent and any new talent that comes through the ranks can easily say i want to play for italy or spain. I wouldnt worry about pernia too much. Hez having a great season at getafe but is unlikely to follow this up with further consistant performances. Thats why he hasnt been involved with the current argentina setup. We dont know even if he will get his spanish citizenship in time or be involved with the spanish squad for the world cup.

Having seen Mauro Camoranesi make a complete footl of himself in the game against Arsenal yesterday, I don’t think Argentina have missed out on much.

Trezeguet is unusual in that he scores loads of goals for Juve but never does anything at international level. Ultimately I don’t think Argentina need to lose any sleep over these two players, on the other hand if Messi had chosen Spain, that would have been agony.

I was always very supicious of Camoanesi’s ethnicity. He always looked very much Mestizo to me; now I’m certain of it.

Steve, you’re confusing mestizo for mediterranean…or hairstyle…while there is probably a meaningful ‘mestizo’ population in the north of Argentina, there certainly isn’t in Tandil, where Camoranesi is from. In all - ‘mestizo’ as you mean it is probably 10% of the Argentine pop.

Hi!
I know it’s not a brand new topic (look at the last writings!!! lol But never mind: I try it!!!
I’ve allways thought that CAMORANESI and TREZEGUET were Mestizo if mestizo means part of European and part of South-American Indian: isn’t it! I love that!!! TREZEGUET is full Argentino as both of his parents are from Argentina. Only his Grand-Grand-father (bisabuelo) was from France!
Camoranesi sometimes makes me think of a Japanese!!! And they are both GREAT! And TREZEGUET is a Great Goleador!!!
Kisses,
Isa from France
