Back From The MotherLand

March 22nd, 2006 | By: Kris | 21 Comments »

I just came back from a 2 week vacation in Argentina and first of all wow is it beautiful. Now to soccer. The people are dying/starving for a great showing in 06. I think anything less than the trophy will be a disappointment and destroy the true argentina fans. I got a sense of anxiousness and nervousness throughout the people. They are anxious to see there talented heros perform but our nervous of another very poor showing and early exit. that is why there is so much pressure on Pekerman. Because the argentine people need a win. Soccer is a religion in Argentina. If you ask a person in Argentina what religion they are they would probably tell you the name of their club team haha. The news coverage on television basically talks about the same stuff we do here except they put even more pressure on Pekerman always pointing out flaws and giving the “u better change that b4 its too late” line. Basically looking negatively at everything Pekerman does but looking positively at individual players like Messi, Riquelme, etc…

The country as a whole needs a win to boost the morale of the entire country!!

they’ll be ready.

Look for an explosion against Ivory Coast.
They’re gonna make a statement in that game.

AIMAR JUST GOT INJURED TODAY :( NOOO!!! I HOPE IT IS NOTHING SERIOUS.

argentine players are falling like dominos. If we have all the players at 100% fitness then I am sure we will set the WC ON FIRE.

GET WELL PABLITO!!! YOU ARE THE BEST EVER!!!

I’m really hoping that it isn’t serious…They took him off on a stretcher and everything. The thing is he was smiling and all, i dunno: My guess would be it isn’t serious… On a good note Tevez scored a hell of a goal today! (he did miss a penaltly, but we forgive him with a goal like that!)

damn I just lost a very long message because I didnt enter the code :|

anyways, Riquelme played awful today. I hope it isnt his back problem again ( he is having some minor back pain).

Argentine players need to learn from brazilians and reserve their best form for the WC. Remember he injuries in 2002 ? Batistuta, Crespo, Veron, Simeone, Ayala….they were all injured and couldnt play at 100%. That is the main reason why we lost. I hope that doesnt happen again.

VAMOS ALB!!

Let us pray Aimar`s injury is not too serious. I am so nervous every day now, so afraid to hear about new players getting injured. So many Argie players have been plagued by injuries lately. I think there are a lot of players that can not be replaced, if they get injured.
Ayala,Zanetti,Sorin,Riquelme, Aimar,Tevez,Messi,Crespo MUST stay free from injuries.

Worrying over nothing, all injured players are on their way back including heinze, mascherano, tevez, messi etc. Aimar has sprained his ankle and will be out for a short period. All players will not only recover for the worldscup but will do so well before hand as to get match practice. The time to worry is if someone is injured during May, which i hope noone does

Most people would like to kill me after i say this, but i hope Riquelme gets injured NOW, and when out, then it’s Aimar and D’alessandro taking over.
Riquelme inconsistencies gives me the creeps. Not personal, but i have an weird feeling about him in the team.

gaston Cufre !! How dare you make such a stupid statement. When Riquelme is on he is 99X better than Aimar and cabezon will EVER be. And he is frequently on form ( yesterday was an exeption because he is struggling with an injury). All the clever calculated deep passes that he makes, the perfect free kicks and crosses, the precise shooting and all the other little magical touches. He is the best midfielder in the world on his day. And he is going to make sure that he will be comes the WC.

My God, what a stupid comment! Hoping for a player to get hurt…crazy. He is after all one of our best players. And I have to ask; what the hell has Andres done that should earn him a place in the WC squad? He has done nothing the last year or so. No, bring Veron in as a cover for Riquelme and Aimar(allthough I am not sure he would fancy such a role).

what you chattin about lol. If riquelme is 99x better then aimar are you sayin pablo is shit. You got to be kidding me. Aimar will give riquelme a run for his money any day of the week. The boy is quick, skillful and scores goals, whilst riquelme always blowing hot and cold, never knowing what to expect. Yes Riquelme is talented and an excellent passer but the man is so inconsistent and that pisses me off. Big deal if riquelme doesnt perform in one of the world cup group games, it will give aimar his chance.

Gastoncufre what are you going on about wishing riquelme gets injured. The guy is one argentinas best midfielders (although inconsistent) and would never wish our playmaker such bad luck. His on off form may get to me at times but as an albiceleste fan i would never want to him get injured for the sake of another player. The more competition the better, this way if one players fails to cut it they’l always be a player breathing down their neck with the fans breathing down the squad’s necks.
adios

It is all going to depend on the coaching. Part of coaching is motivating and knowing when to make moves. I think that you start Requilme but the coach has got to make it clear that if he is having a bad day then aimar comes in. The coach should not wait so long to sub. He has three subs and if Requilme is not on his game then put Aimar in at about the 30 minute mark. I believe that Argentina will win the WC. They have the talent and in some ways the expectations have been lowered. Last year after they beat Brasil I think that you would have considered them a favorite and now they have Messi. The only reason that have not performed up to that same level since then is injuries. When they have their best eleven back the world will see! Dale Argentina!

Oh common!!!,

so maybe not injured!! maybe lost in the Hymalayans or on a 4 month orgy in Chile. Whatever it takes to get him OUT of the picture today, and then we can evaluate our options. I wouldn’t want to put all my chips riding on Riquelme’s inconsistencies. Have you ever seen D’alessandro playing with the Albiceleste? He runs like Sorin, but he has the skills and the brains. He is totally rested because he has not done anything in the last years or so, and he will put huevos when the time comes. Riquelme is a crap shoot.

Riquelme is not inconsistent! The man has been giving his all for Villareal. He is suffering from an injury and is reserving his best for the clash with inter. Stop making him sound like a Recoba or some other inconsistent player because he is not. Even on his worst night he can produce some quality passes.

Riquelme’s hot & cold is his styles. IMO, sometimes it’s good. Coz when he’s cold, the opponents will lose focus of him for a while. Right now, the opponents have been focusing on him all the time! Other players should take charge & distract the opponents players away from him, whether it is Aimar or D’alessandro or Messi or whoever, must absorb the heat from him. Otherwise, he is sitting duck! Even Ronaldhino needs Deco, E’too or Messi to perform well, coz he doesn’t need to do it all time. In any game, supporting players are as important as star players!
I like what I see in Messi during Croatian game, where he is not afraid to take charge when there’s opportunity. That’s why he is one of the key players in 2006.

Argentina isn’t even making it out of the group. The fans “hunger” will soon turn into starvation I’m afraid. I think they are being a little too optimistic- considering the quality of opposition in group C. They can’t even handle Croatia right now. Maybe 2010 Argentina!!

Sorry bud, i think england had better watch their step as well. On papar it looks easy but the world cup is made for upsets and i can see you struggling against sweden. Paraguay will give you a scare as well. England got the players to win the world cup but with that turnip as manager anything could go wrong. As a friend of mine said the guy is more interested in women than his job!!

If we have got a tough group then the english have no excuses especially if your going to be facing germany, poland, ecuador or poland in second round. Its a good thing the eyes are not on argentina this time round. Everyone is looking at england and brazil.

Weren’t England dominated for 80 minutes by an Argentina midfield with Cambiasso (squad player), Maxi (squad player) and Demichelis (winning his first cap!). Okay o Riquelme was there as well, but that’s not bad against the ‘greatest midfielders in the history of the world’!! Also, didn’t England need a last minute goal to see off a weakened Uruguay? Did you see what Argentina did to Uruguay in a World Cup qualifier no less? (I’m talking about the 4-2 home win).
I’m not gonna be brash and say Argentina WILL win it but I don’t see where this England fuss comes from.
They’re just guys in Nike commercials.
