I’m not Argentinian and have no ties to the country and I don’t generally watch a lot soccer but I have to say that I have absolutely fallen in love with this team. I’ve never seen a soccer team that’s as consistently creative and exciting and effective as they are. Now I know why they call it the beautiful game. We are witnessing history in the making, make no mistake. I just hope that they can finish the job in Venezuela because Germany ‘06 was a heartbreaker. If it weren’t for those substitutions…but that’s in the past, I really feel that this team is destined to win - hope the dream comes true!

wow what a nice goal from LIONEL MESSI . We will face brazil in the final . I hope Basile will use the same formation . In my opinion Argentinian defence such as AYALA and HEINZE certainly do the mistakes but i’m so proud with MASCHERANO he is superb . Other than that i like ZANETTI he can play all place . I hope ARGENTINA can beat brazil with a big margin . We lost at the cofederations cup 4 - 1 and last international friendly 3 - 0 . I want ARGENTINA beat brazil 4 - 0 b’coz i believe ARGENTINA can do that but so dissapointed b’coz HERNAN CRESPO can’t play . I DON’T KNOW HOW TO EXPLAIN HOW I FEEL WHEN YOU LOSE . IF YOU CRY I ALSO WILL CRY. NO ILLORE PARA MI ARGENTINA PORQUE YO SIEMPRE CONTIGO . VAMOS ARGENTINA……….ARGENTINA SALUD……LIBERTAD…VAMOS ARGENTINA TODAVIA….

I’m so proud….I have had no sleep but it doesn’t matter and Sunday should be a hell of a game. I wish Kaka and Ronaldinho were there so there would no excuses, but regardless, “the protectors of the beautiful game” as the Sky Sports (UK) commentator said last night need to be crowned for these performances…and the time is now!!!

VAMOS!!

It’s cute to see some things:

1) Mexico acting as if they had a shot against Argentina. Give it a rest - you didn’t have a chance.

2) Argentina acting like this is the world cup or something. You are playing beautiful football, but come on now, you are destroying teams that are not even at full strength. You’ll kill Brazil, but it will be an empty victory. I’m interested to see if Argentina can bring it like this to the WC in 2010.

Just an advice to Mr. thedude….I think if you are an intelligent man, you will understand why Argentina acting like its the worldcup…all you need to do is just read the last post in this blog and the comments there. And yes, who asked these teams to come “under strength pal..? its called passion….and the Argentines got it….no matter how much they play…they all will die for a chance to wear that beautiful jercy…it does not matter to them if its a copa, WC or a bloody friendly…thats the difference man…so go get a life…

spider, great comeback. So good you had to post it twice. Lay off the crystal meth, and you won’t double post like that again.

Seriously, Argentina plays good football. We all can see that. But until they really play to their potential on the world’s biggest stage - I’m going to call them underachievers.

And if name-calling and nationalist posturing are all their fans can offer otherwise…whatever.

Actually, anand, I know exactly why Argentina is acting like it’s the World Cup. It doesn’t have anything to do with passion. It has everything to do with wounded pride. A team this talented for so many years cannot possibly go this long without a major tournament victory. So, they’re going to bring it and bring it until they finally win one. I just don’t think it’s really going to matter until they win the World Cup, that’s all.

Get over your talk of “they will die to wear the jersey” and other emotional BS. If they were so passionate, why can’t they muster the passion to win a major tournament in 14 years? Let’s just call the Albiceleste what they are - underachievers - for now. I just hope they can destroy full strength teams like this in 2010, ok?

Dude…ur a joke…seriously….have you seen the postings that myself and some others have posted in the above thread? See the point is “Passion need not bring trophies”…but it will win hearts…and thats what happeneing in world football now…I am aware of the fact that they have not won any tournie for the past 14 years..b ut they have fought really well at all stages and we all know the misery theyve suffered from the last Copa and the World Cup..But did that really matter? I lookaround a cricket crazy country like India where the only name in world football known and preached are Brazil and England and among the tournies the WC and EPL…thanks to the media. People wear yellow or white jercies just before the matches to show fashion statements rather than any serious understanding of football…I used to see that in pain and worry about my “under achieving side”…but I dont any more…coz I see a change…I see people wanting to buy the Albiceleste kits, I see people in England chanting Argentina Argentina…to me that means much more than a win…may be for somebody like you those starts that gets displayed on the jercy alone matters…I dont blame you…but I just recall this commentry from the commentator from the last world cup when Cambiasso scored that second goal….”How many passes theyve weaved together before that goal…u need a calculator…that goal is going to go in to soccer manuals around the world”….
I dont have much more to say to you…coz we both see the ball and the green pitch differently:)

Some people are real funny. I think we should just enjoy our great time, the great spectacle that our team is showing. Some people will always crib.

When Argentina went to the WC finals without playing good football everyone complained about that. Now if we play pretty they crib again. We should just ignore these people. Brazil was a team to relish in 82, no more.

Brazil could still win copa america, considering the champions luck they are having. And also they are not a bad team. But the point is that does not change Argentina to be the football team which is the most spectacular to watch.

The “full strength” argument is pathetic. Everyone is saying that Arg is at full strength, but remember that NONE of the goal scorers in the World Cup for Arg are even on the team. Crespo, Saviola, and Maxi Rod combined to score all of Arg’s goals (save the SM game where Tevez and Messi scored in the blow out). They are not even on this team.

This is the difference : Arg is so deep, that they are not even missed. Messi, Tevez, Riquelme stepped right in.

No one has “stepped in” to the Ronaldino and Kaka’s role. So the team looks like it’s lacking.
(Of course these are pretty big shoes to fill). But NONE of this would matter if Brazil were playing good football. If they were playing like we all know that they can. If they win the Copa America it would be a hollow victory: where only they would celebrate, because fans of the beautiful game are not behind them.

This is the beautiful game. It should never be win at all costs. That isn’t why fans watch it. They watch it to be gobsmacked by dazzling plays. If you want win at all casts — the NFL starts in september.

I dont think Argentina needs players like Kaka who would rather protect his Champions League “achievements” for securing the FIFA Player of the Year award then play for the Brazil NT and get outshined by the Riquelme who is really the deserving contender.

Maradonna it must really be you ….easy on the coke buddy.

Here is a quick and simple Math lesson for you.

Kaka Riquelme YA …Obviously

MILAN = GREATNESS

Forza MILAN!!!!

Finals of Copa should be a very good one and I predict very humbling for Argentina.

ps. dude you are bang on with your comments. However this blog is only for cheering the greatness of Aregentine soccer and not to honestly analyze the game or their lack of WC success.

I hear you john - it seems this blog is for Argentinians (naturally, of course) and for creepy international types who want to slob Messi’s knob. Hardly a place for criticism, I guess.

Anyway, beating a Kaka-and-Ronaldinho-less Brazil is hardly a world-beating feat for a team of Argentina’s caliber. They should beat them, but I’m not convinced of Argentina’s top-dog status until they can demonstrate this in 2010.

I like beautiful football, but winning football is more important.

Regardless, it was a good match. Mexico was thoroughly outclassed (unlike in WC ‘06, which I thought they should have won) and Messi and Riquelme look really, really good.

Thedude….I suggest you should visit this place more often…the contributors for this blog, atleast a good 80 percentage of them are internationals. We always accept criticism…we are most harsh in doing that on our players…we respect every oponent…and beating kaka-ronaldinho less brazil talk…man I just dont get that…are they the last names in Brazilian football?
I suggest you to take a look at the sub 20 sides of Argentina ,Mexico and Spain…
peace

tuhin, anand -

pretty simple response. Who needs Kaka, Ronaldinho, etc…why, Brazil does, of course. And Argentina needs Brazil to have them, otherwise skeptics of their “best team in the world” status, like myself, will always be criticizing folks like you who claim them to be the best team in the world.

I’m happy to see Argentina playing so well, they have a very nice style of football to watch. Messi is the class of the world, no doubt. But until 2010, critics like me won’t shut up. I really hope your adopted team (”we” coming from you guys is still creepy) performs like this in the next world cup. Until then, cheers.

Oh, one final point. U20 sides that perform well are hardly the best measuring stick of future success. If U20 players are that good, they play with the national squad. A good U20 team is a formula for highly touted underachievers - just take a look at the “golden generation” of Portugal.

Again, cheers.

atleast for us thats not the case man…starting from Diego…to Riquelme, Aimer, Tevez and Messi…youth systems have been the back bone for Argentina. You may also recall a certain Ronaldinho if you like and not to forger Rui Costa.

And please….”we” sounding creepy…dont be such a silly nationalist man…the beauty of this sports in that its just beyond such boundaries. A real soccer fan will appreciate good talent whereever they see it. I see it in Argentina and Mexico now and ofcourse in Portugal. Those are the teams I cheer for. Ronaldinho is class apart, he has style and character and creativity…but KAKA…not my type…he can be the world footballer of the year, but when he finishes his career, he wont be in football books as a role model for the future to learn, but Ronaldinho, yes.

The problem I have with you is you are so stubborn…even when u are appreciating Argentina, you try it from the “politically correct” BS.
