Argentine Peoples’ List

May 15th, 2006 | By: JP | 98 Comments »

After Pekerman presented the LIST today he stated that Argentina would go with a 4-4-2…Might just be smoke for the opposition, but let’s see what rolls out vs Angola. Below is the result of a months long poll by a leading BA daily. It differs from Pekerman’s in 5 people. The Argentine people, in my opinion, are astute judges of talent. Despite the public’s qualms with Pekerman’s list, from the streets there’s a unanimous “Bueno, Ahora VAMOS” with a mumbled, “Jose…If you lose you’d better stay in Germany.” It’s a great attitude in the face of a list that excludes some juggernauts. Also announced: Riquelme will be wearing the number ‘10′.

Below are names and then the number of votes received.

Lionel, you cannot have been watching the premiership this season. The man has been attrocious. He gives a half decent performance in the FA Cup final and you think that justifies his selection?

I dont want to see him nowhere near the team.

I hope Lucho and Aimar are given time on the pitch. Lucho and Riquelme have a great understanding of one another. The pablo and luis would provide something different if things don’t work, what do you guys say?

Argiebargie whenever I read your name I think of the nursery rhyme…

Argiebargie pudding and pie,

Kissed the girls and made them cry…

Anyway you guys are right. Scaloni has been a waste of time so far.

The only problem with that damn list is excluding Zanetti and Veron. sometimes i think perkerman is out of his mind because any other team, if had players like Veron and Zanetti, with no doubt include them in the team. The problem with argentina is we have so many good players god damn it.And because of this good players, we maybe do not pick the right ones for WC. But still i believe we are still the dream team without Zanetti and Veron. just do not lose faith and support Argentina
LONG LIVE ARGENTINA
We will be the one in the end singing “WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS”

I don’t know what you are talking about argiebargie - Scaloni had a great season with the hammers….he only had 3 yellow cards in all of his 16 EPL games !!!! Like c’mon, let’s be serious for a moment !!!!

Long live the BULL !!!!!!!

argentina’s best lineup

Heinze–Ayala–Burdisso–Sorin

Lucho—Riquelme—-Aimar

Tevez——Messi

–Scalloni–

Scaloni should be up front because of his “bull” style. His aggressiveness is second to none especially when he sees red.

i can’t believe the obsession with zanetti.

i love the guy and maybe he should have been treated with a bit more respect but i think pekerman is trying to field a newer and different team from 2002.. and i can’t blame him… these people calling for veron are out of their minds.. the guy shit in his pants in 2002!!!!!!!

i see zanetti as being a great offensive defender…a guy who goes up front a lot.. i don’t think thats what pekerman wants..he’s already got sorin for that role, if he wants it, anyways…

i think its reasonable to trust pekerman..he won a number of world youth cups with these very players..other than the omission of lux i see nothing to get too excited about here… perhaps crespo should not be on team as he’s been pretty poor the past few years…. but other than that there is little to quibble about….

then it becomes a question of who to play… i actually thought aimar was the best thing bout argentina in 2002 and if he’s healthy i would like to see him in the lineup with riquelme, tevez and messi.. i know you’ll say its madness but it would be a real argentine team with four real argentine style players. people with gambeta….i don’t think its going to happen..it would be ballsy though

also one more on zannetti..remember that veron and sorin have a big grudge and that they practically boxed in a recent match.. if zannetti also has a problem with sorin the team captain then its not hard to figure out why he’s not on the team….just saying the answer might come from that angle….politics….

PUGNATE

I know sorin is the captain! I said leader which istwo different things. The leader is the field general who communicates, controls the tempo relays instructions talks to the players because they respect him. Sorin has not done this. Look at the games against England and Croatia for example. there are times when the leader is also like a coach, tell the players when to run off the ball when to push up , when not to, to inspire and push them on the field. This needs to be done in harmony

according to veron i think it had to do with the fact that when veron left italy and sorin was in italy veron let him stay at his house and then veron said sorin did not pay him ..

frankly it all sounds like made up… but something to do with a property…

also after the 2002 fiasco veron was not called back to be part of national team while sorin was made captain so maybe veron thought sorin would intercede in his behalf to get him called back (like maradona did)…

i have a theory that the reason samuel and zanetti were not called into team for world cup has to do with this whole veron thing which got much worse a mere three months ago in a champions league much where veron practically tried to beat up sorin during match…. otherwise its odd as samuel was being called to be on team for march qatar game..and now a mere two months later he is not on team…

something funny had to have happened and it must have to do with veron

oh i forgot that veron not only tried to beat him up but also was clearly insulting him whenever he got near sorin…

really pathetic stuff which made me lose any shred of respect i had for veron.. i think he’s bitter cause he messed up in 2002 world cup..that was meant to be his team..it was built around him and choked….then it was like there was locker room trouble started by veron…during the world cup..thats the impression i got…so pekerman does not want anything to do with that and i think thats key… the first priority is that the players get along and play as a team…

basically what you are saying sergio is that we have lost 3 of the world’s greatest players because of Sorin. I have nothing against Sorin but what ia m saying is if Sorin was the reason, then wouldnt it be wise from Pekerman’s side to exclude Sorin since he seems to be the problem maker.

you’re obsessed with this leader thing eh..

i think the team sees sorin as their leader….he’s earned a lot of respect because he gives 100%… so people look up to him…

veron after the fiasco of 2002 had to go.

anyways who knows who the leader will be…just cause he is a captain does not mean he is the only leader..

my guess is that ayala, crespo and sorin are the leaders because they have been on the team for so long… i think riquelme is a leader of sorts on the field as the ball has to permanently be distribute or rotated through him… thats a leader of sorts..

i wouldn’t obsess too much about this leadership thing..the more important thing is to have a group of players who get along and respect each other and are all going after the same goal or rowing in the same direction….

and pekerman is an intelligent guy….

well carrie, i don’t know exactly what went down.. my brain tells me that its strange that samuel who played the march friendly is not on the team and that zanetti isn’t either…

my theory and its only that is that zanetti and samuel are great players and that if they are not on the team it might have to do with “political” reasons… what could those be? that pekerman does not like them, that they don’t get along with the other players, i don’t know..its hard to see zanetti being a troublemaker!

but Veron had to go carrie..he challenged pekerman the last few months and HE is the troublemaker..also , he is not one of the best players in the world.. he was in 2001… his form went down in 2002 and in teh world cup he choked…he cannot be on the team..

as far as zanetti and samuel i’m not sure what happened.. i’ve heard samuel’s form has dropped too….

ultimately the coach does not only pick players based on their skill level.. you’re making a team and a whole host of factors has to go into selecting that team…. believe me pekerman wants to win this world cup and he must have his reasons for not choosing samuel and zanetti…. i do not think the reason is merely their skill… its more than that…

or at least thats the way i think it is

well done Sergio, you may be right. we have no choice but to trust Pekerman. Let’s hope he knows what he is doing. I was wondering if any of you guys are actually going to Germany.
also what teams besides Argentina have the chance of winning the world cup( Let’s hope none of them)

i have a friend who is a germany fan going to germany from washington dc on june 9…he’s really excited..

another guy i know is also going and taking his cousin or something like that..

i think its tough to say who will win this one… i see a lot of good teams…if i had to bet brazil, germany, france, italy, argentina.. the same ones as always i suppose..
but someone has to break through sometime…

more importantly i got to think argentina can do well….i really think pekerman is going to do a good job of coaching… he’s got 20 days to work on the plan with the players while trying to rest them as much as possible.. you know they are all in buenos aires right now .. messi was arriving today….i love that messi guy.. have you seen the videos at http://www.lionelmessi.org
fantastic stuff…

i hope messi is fully fit for the world cup

I think it the actual lionel scaloni on the blog thats come to defend himself!!
Lionel, now I know for sure you havnt watched the premiership this season or to be more accurate any of West Ham’s matches apart from the F.A. cup final.

The only thing similar to scaloni and a bull is probabaly their ability to play football.;)

Even Philly thinks hes rubbish, putting him in a strikers position, great sarcasm.
