Argentina Vs. Chile Friendly
Hello everyone…
I decided I’d start a new post since the old one was getting rather long and we have a friendly coming up. Here is a picture of the players that Basile has picked for our next friendly game against Chile in Mendoza, Argentina. The game is on Wednesday the 18th of this month. I have a couple of issues I’d like to discuss with everyone. I know we have already discussed these topics, but we just can’t get enough around here, can we? Ok so here we go…
1. Home advantage… Does it make a difference?
2. Basile’s selection of all local players… Do you think he picked the right LOCAL players? You think there are better players in Argentina that he might have missed?
3. If these players do well, what should COCO do? Should he incorporate them into a team mixed with European based players? Or should he allow them to play the next friendly game against Mexico?
4. Lastly, I’d like you all to make a prediction of the result. I know it is hard to say, but it is just for fun.
Please let us discuss freely and peacefully.
-Julian

Carrizo was great against Boca and i saw some savings against Chili too. He seems really strong mentally. It’s good for us: there will be competition between him and Ustari. And Lux will be back soon.

Leo reminds me Zidane concerning his modesty:

He says, Diego’s gol in 86 was more beautiful.

Let us celebrate Messi’s goal! This type if goal is VERY rare. It will not happen again in 20 years, I am sure. So be happy, this is not the time to remind ourselfs that Messi is too individualistic. This is the time when we should just praise him! After the next game, we will come back to reality anyway… This is football.

MAXILOPEZ:
“Many players scored this type of goal. Weah, Maradona,…”
What ? You disapoint me, you can’t say “many players” ONLY Maradona did it, weah’s goal was different though he was very impressive and unique.
I am sorry but you are too pessimistic, Maradona scored this goal 20 years ago, during 20 years only weah scored a goal after dribbling a lot, but I am sorry, weah did not dribble the keeper ! And it was a fast break he had more space.
Anyway, MESSI ’s Goal was unique ! He showed he’s able to be the greatest, of course he isn’t yet, but for sure he will, let’s pray to get this dream true:
2010, 2014 and 2018 WC in Messi’s hands !

BAJADO:
“Jason, you will crap on Palacio as soon as he moves to Europe. In 93/94, most of Argentina’s best players were in Argentina, not in Europe. Get off the nationalist crack. ”
I agree with you, I think at the time there were a lot of great players in Argentina because player left argentina later than today. Today, look at gago, aguera, higuain, they are not 20 yet !

I don’t believe being in European soccer makes you a sure thing on our national team. Palacio is a perfect example, the kid wants to play in Argentina and not go overseas. So in turn will you not include him because Europe is not on his resume. Half the players that were called will be in Europe next year. I am just glad that in country players are not being overlooked…Lavezzi, Zarate, Sosa, Belluschi, Palacio, Pavone. Great players, I mean come on can you really tell me they don’t deserve a shot.

Some of Basile’s thoughts after the 0-0 with Chile (and Messi’s masterpiece):
He didn’t like what he sawin the game. There was lack of conduction from the creative midfield, Montenegro and Beluschi didn’t connect the two sectors of the field.
The line of backs also had a lot of problems although Ibarra was a monster.
The they asked him if had seen Messi’s goal.
“I saw it several times, it’s maradonian. He is blessed with that special extra talent.
That kid is going yo have schedule problems (if Barça reaches the finals of Copa del Rey) because the arg. team will be concentrated in Venezuela and Messi will get there at the last minute. (might even miss a match)
Yet, Basile is trying to figure how to exploit Messi’s talent to the max.
So here is where Basile tells us what he really thinks.
“Messi has to have all the freedom, he can’t conduct the team (that would steal part of his explosive speed) so Messi should be the “second forward”, and would run freely in and around the box.”
He then said he’s not upset with Riquelme, on the contrary, he’s waiting for a signal from Román, to call him back to conduct the team the way only he can do it.
He added “I would like to see Verón and Riquelme playing together side by side as #8 and #10. That could be something interesting to see.
All I can say at this point is that the future looks bright for the Albiceleste.
We just gotta get Roman back.
Imagine a tandem like this:
Mascherano-Gago
Verón-Riquelme
Messi-Crespo or Milito

WamDiego, remember the goal from a Saudi Arabia player in 98? He dribbled everyone too! If Pele had scored it, people would have said it was the most beautiful gol of all time.
I’m a bit pessimistic, it’s true. But to me, the beautiful game isn’t based on dribbling all the field. To me Cambiasso’s goal against Serbia is one of the most beautiful gol i’ve ever seen in my life, i even prefer this one than Diego’s one against England 86. I’m like that, i love collective way of playing. This is really Argentina.
But of course, Messi’s goal is very spectacular and powerful. Messi will score other goals like that, obviously. I love him too.
But just immagine what could happen if he had more freedom on the field, it would be so impressive. This little guy is our futbol future.
Tonight: REAL-VALENCIA. Gago VS Ayala.
Te quiero Argentina, a vida.

I think it’s the combination of team work with individual talent, precisly what we like of Argentina when playing their best football.

Albo, thank you for posting Basile’s opinions.
AUSTRALIA – ARGENTINA has been cancelled. It would have been weird for our players to travel to Australia to play this useless friendly.

Football Federation Australia said Friday it had agreed to the Argentinian Football Association’s request to reschedule the match to later in the year.
“Argentina made the request due to concerns that as a result of other match commitments in Europe (made subsequent to their committing to the match in Australia) they would be unable to bring their top players nor have sufficient preparation for the match on June 6,” the FFA statement said.
“FFA is committed to hosting only a full-strength Argentina team in Melbourne

Well sorry to burst your bubble!!!!!!
Vamos Basile!!!! Como te quiero Argentina!!!!

i’m glad that the afa has shown concern about the local based squad. they just like the rest of us wants to see a full strength squad. but i don’t think that the macth against austrailia needed to be postponed. there are so many argentines playing in europe that they could have took an alternate team. the team could look like this.
barbosa
quiroga-fuentes–samuel-placente
galetti-di’michelle-ibarra-bilos
maxi lopez—diego milito
as for subs cavenaghi, solari, samoza, guitirrez, santana, colocini, zabeleta etc.

To much travel for the squad before the Copa is not good. Thats why Basile has two friendly’s lined up for June in Argentina. I think it was a smart move for the team not to travel. Players from Europe will def. be jet lagged after all that. THey need the time to concentrate on Basile’s tactics and get a feel for each other again!!!

i think it will be a close game . arg 3 – 2 chile or maybe , a draw 1 – 1
