Argentina v. Mexico part 2
predictions?? who will break open the game for either side?? will mexico come out in that green turtle shell or will they try and play argentina straight up. I would ask the same question about argentina but you know no matter who they play they are coming at you 100 mph..obviously neri is the guy most of us argentinos worry about but id rather defend him than a full attack from the albiceleste..u know if i was just a neutral fan and wanted to see something really cool it would be to see this argentina team down 1-0 and in a full desperation mode to see guys like messi and tevez going all out cuz you know the passion that comes with wearing those sexxy argentina jerseys haha..but im not a neutral fan soo i hope its a blow out from the start…Aguante Argentina–Pone HUEVOS

“It looks like a tough match for Mexico: the two teams have played nine times and Argentina has won eight of those matches. The aggregate score is 17 for Argentina and only 10 for Mexico.”

Well good luck tomorrow Argentina supporters and may the best team win. I love this rendition of Argentina and I really love Coach Alfio El Coco Basile (he used to coach Club America), love his quotes.
One year has passed since the battle in Leipzig and kudos to your miracle goal by Maxi.
However, Mexico is going to give you guys a scare your not going to forget. I predit Mexico will win in PK’s.
First, let’s really analyze Argentina’s victims, and they are not too impressive, nobody has tested the back line of Ayala, Heinze, Milito, Zannetti, Pato etc… Now they are all quality players but really have they been tested. I mean Eddie Johnson even snuck passed them.
Mexico has excellent team speed this time around (unlike Borgetti last year) so I am sure Mexico will create some great chances. One thing you have not faced is a team that is not afraid of you. I predict 5-6 yellows total between the 2 teams. During this game this will be very unfriendly.
On the other hand, Mexico’s backline is solid, fortified by the 2 best goalies in the tourney. No matter who is between the posts I don’t see Argentina scoring more than 1-2 goals. Therefore a tie is very likely. Let’s hope Cambiasso takes a PK.
To all you naysayers that do not respect or know of Mexico’s rise to upper echelons of Latin America, pay close attention because your watching history. Led by the greatest forward in Real Madrid history, we will finally get over the hump.
Good luck, should be a great game.

Hi all!
I am very sad Brazil beat Uruguay. Incredible that Garcia couldn’t manage to score from his penalty….
I am sorry to say that I have a bed feeling before the game tonight….I am pretty sure that it will go to penalties, and that Mexico will beat us there. Mexico always play very well against Argentina, and with our shaky defence this could be a nightmare. But, I am very happy that Coco has seen the light and will start with Tevez. I pray that Tevez, Messi and Riquelme can play up to there best potential tonight, if they can’t, this game will be lost. Good luck to all of you, tonight! Love this blog and love you all! Vamos Argentina!!

Hey,
I have to spend the night away from home tonight so am in danger of missing the game. All I’ve got is this lousy computer! Does anyone know anywhere on the internet I can watch it??
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Shame for Uruguay last night. I felt (perhaps I am biased) they deserved more than they got & those scenes at the end were a tad unpleasant bringing to mind the QF again of last year.
Phil I take it that is a laptop with wi-fi connection or somewhere you can hook into the net ?
You could try http://www.myp2p.eu
d/l PPmate program & then select the Arg-Mex link
AjNYHC will know ,proffers the totalfootball site I’m afraid I can’t recall the address to hand.
It will be a tight tense affair at least at the start but I’m sure Rune we will prevail. There’s just too much attacking prowess & with Masche the defence should not be tested too much.
It will be nice to see bunnyhop Blanco again though ,though its assumed Castillo (Uruguay must be kicking themselves) will at best be on the bench.
Take care one & all & see you later tonight.
Vamos Argentina. ![]()

Why do people of the opposing team come on our boards? Does anyone on this board do that? (I’m really asking).
In any case, Brazil was just grim last night. Uruguay lost it in the penalties, but they outplayed Brazil in the game.
THis doesn’t mean anything, of course. THere have been more times that I can count where Brazil has been shite all through a tournament and then play one good game in a final and win it all.
Tonight — anything can happen. Someone could get kicked out after a 2 minutes, a penalty can be called. But Arg has a TREMENDOUS team. Again, that Mexican poster might be bragging about the Mexican defense, but this is the same defense that let 2 US goals go by them (Ecuador scored against them as well).
In the WC Mexico had a very very difficult time against Messi.
Last night’s game was very tight and very hard hitting. I just hope Arg defense fights hard.

This is that quote that anan posted—worth shown here:
Lessons from Messi, Roman, Tevez et al AKA What Argentina teaches the world!
By Left Midfield
Argentina have cruised into the semi final of the Copa America and I find myself willing them to win the whole thing and at the same time wondering why?
Why do I want Argentina to win SO badly? After all - as an Englishman I should remember the testy games of 1998 and 2002 and smile at the thought of the Argentine side coming a cropper at the final hurdle. I can still remember the disbelief and misery Maradona caused me in 1986….BUT despite that, I want them to win the Copa and I want Roman to be crowned world player of the year.
I think that two key facts have led me to love this Argentine side.
First, they play futbol the way it should be played - passing, attacking intent, teamwork. Yes they are a physically strong team but they don’t win games based on pace and power alone - they win because of the way they pass the ball….and it is Roman, perhaps, who personifies this style best. The guy doesn’t seem to have a lot of pace but boy can he pass the ball!
And second, they care about their country and the national team in a way that only fans can understand. Vernon, I think it is fair to say, never tackles and tracks back for his club side the way he does for Argentina. Messi charges into tackles in a tournie his Brazilian teammate (you know who you are Ronnie) hasn’t bothered to attend. Can you imagine one of these Argentine player sitting on the sidelines quietly when his club chairman was threatening not to release him for his country (Michael Owen why are you looking down humbly?) No chance - because these guys know that playing for your country is EVERYTHING - it is at the heart of this beautiful game we all follow.
Yes - club futbol is a most beautiful and passionate thing BUT Copa America, World Cup and European Championship tournaments are different….they just are. And this Argentina side gets it - and I hope they give their fans the glory they deserve….I just wish that I could trade Lampard, Rio and a whole lot of overpaid English players for some Argentines who believe in playing for the shirt of their country.

or maybe more?

Guys… this is not the same team that played in the Gold Cup. The entire defence is different (and has been incredible this tournament) and strikerwise things have changed. Don’t think that because the general “Mexico” MNT lost to the U.S. that this will be easy.

Phil– if you have a PC, try downloading tvu player. It’s much better than sopcast. You just need to download the software and then go to GOL tv in the channels listing.
You can also download sopcast, but the channels are fuzzier.
good luck!

Why are we being so politically correct here? We should beat Mexico!! They are a good team and we are a great team. There should be no excuses for us at all and I dont see why everyone is trying to talk Mexico up. i respect them as a team but lets be serious here. We have twice the talent and we are playing very well. Please do not doubt our team Rune. This is the real deal. We will dominate this game and will win by one goal minimum. I predict 4 to 1. Vamos!!!

Barca agree deal for Argentina defender Milito
MADRID, July 11 (Reuters) - Real Zaragoza have agreed to sell Argentina defender Gabriel Milito to Barcelona, the Primera Liga clubs said on Wednesday.
The 26-year-old centre back, who is on duty with Argentina at the Copa America, is to move on a four-year contract for a fee Spanish media reported to be around &euor;20 million.
Barcelona have been seeking to strengthen their defence after centre back Carles Puyol picked up a knee ligament injury that will rule him out of the start of next season.
Milito has been a consistent performer at Zaragoza since moving from Independiente in 2003. He had a contract with them until 2010.

Last night as I watched the game I was cheering for Uruguay the whole time but as we got to the end I started to cheer for Brasil. Because as I was watcing the game i relaized that Uruguay would be the harder opponent in the final. They marked tight in the second half and dominated possesion. Uruguay deserved to win but in Brasil I saw a weaker opponent with only one really tought threat and that is Robinho. Argentina is playing so well and my confidence in them is so high that I actually wanted Brasil to win. I am very confident that we will beat Brasil and feel that tonights game is the harder opponent.

ToddUtah - I love your confidence!
Urugay losing just reinforced the reality that football is a cruel sport. They deserved it. Brazil was obnoxious because they actually stopped playing in the second half. Uruguay played to win.
But you can never count Brazil out. They’ve managed to be awful, while at the same time deadly in finishing. Every time Arg and Brazil meet, it’s usually a blow out, either one way or the other. I’m thinking that Arg should kill Brazil this time around. They deserve to, by the way they are playing, but you never ever know with Brazil.
Getting through MExico will be a harder physical battle. But I really think that this game will be the one where Messi makes the difference.

Its going to be key against Brazil that Coco brings in Aimar for Veron. Gilberto will most definitely man mark Riquelme. But I’m only concerned about today. Another 8 hours or so until the game. Mascherano will be key today to stop Nery and Blanco (if he starts).
Heinze CANNOT afford any slips ups as he did against Peru. Ayala and Milito will need to monitor counter attacks effectively as they’re not particularly fast.
Pupi needs to have a strong game as well today. Pato certainly needs to be at his best. This is crunch time!

I cant wait for tonight. My wifge is making me Milenesa and empanadas
I agree that Messi has a great chance to be the difference maker. Mexico is going to try and mark out Roman but Mexico will have no answer for a small and fast Argentine named Messi. It is very likely that if we score first this game will be a blowout because Mexico will have to come out and play. If Mexico do score first than this cold be quite a game. If it is still 0 to 0 you bring in Aimar at about 55 minutes.

I also beleive that the Mexican team will come out hyper so all we should worry about the first 15 minutes is making them chase the ball around. Just play keep away and wear them down a little. Against the USA and in most games Mexico comes out very aggressive and try to get an early goal so that they can then sit bakc and defend and counter. This is part of thier strategy and if they dont get that early goal it will be our game. Even if they do get the early goal we still can win but if we can contaiin them the first 15 minutes it will go along way towards winning. vamos a ganar!!

What happened did I missed the match? Who won? Argentina? What was the score? I am sure Argentina is the favorite and with all of the star players that we brag about, I am sure we are a superpowerhouse and won against Brazil right? I hope so because we haven’t won anything since 1993!
OOOOOhhhhh shit!
Argentina lost!!!
Of course, Brazil is their daddy right boys, and still on FIFA Top Ranking #1.

I believed that Argentina is over rated, and all of that bolony that I hear of how freat their players are can’t even compare to Brazilian players, specially those players that are not even stars, but boy they can play. The greatness about Brazil is that they never brag about anyone or show off like Argentina. That is why the world loves Brazil.
