Wamdiego,

I totally concur with you. This would be the starting line up for me. With these lads, and when Arg. is clicking, it is untouchable!!

ZANETTI-AYALA-MILITO-HEINZE
–MASCHERANO-CAMBIASSO

On another note, when Ron. was ejected during Barca’s game vs. Atl. Madrid, Messi answered the call. He rose to the occasion and delivered. It was a lot of fun watching this guy run rings around the opposition.

Hi folks

I will be there live next Saturday. I’m Swiss but I love the Argies very much. So it will be amizing to finally see them playing right in the stadium. My squad to start would be:

Pato

Coloccini Ayala Milito Heinze

Mascherano

Zanetti Aimar Cambiasso

Milito Tevez

Coloccini got called because Garay got injured.

So, looking forward.

ATT: Golazo just a bit of feedback dude in reference to what you posted a week or so ago.

HERES WHAT YOU POSTED:

“The U 20 squad this year might be better then the squad in 2005. If they call all good U-20 players execpt Messi, we can win it. I think the squad is going to look like something like this.

Strikers

Pablo Mouche
Sergio Aguero
Gonzalo Higuain
Mauro Zarate
Oscar Trejo

Midfielders

Sebtain Leto
Ever Bangea
Neri Cardozo{If not Copa America
Maximiliano Moralez
Alejandro Gómez
Claudio Yacob
Matías Sánchez

Defenders

Gabriel Paletta
Miguel Torren
David Abraham
Federico Fazio
Emiliano Insua
Matías Cahias
Ezequial Garay

Goalkeppers.

Sergio Romero
Bruno Centero

And our U 17 squad must include:

Fernando Meza
Maximiliano Oliva
Federico Laurito(I think hes injured)
Brian Sarmiento
Lucas Trecarichi
Pablo Piatti

HERES MY REPLY:

To begin with Neri Cardozo, Garay, Abraham, and Paletta will all be too old to play dude. Don’t worry though, in other blogs I’ve even heard such ridiculous calls from people claiming that they have the “winning” team with Leandro Grimi (at AC Milan), Mascherano, Biglia and Gago all still being of age for this tournament! Thats crazy! Its under 20 guys wake up! That means the above mentioned are all like 21,22 some 23 even so they wont be allowed to play.(some people just don’t do their freakin research before posting and believe these players will stay young 4ever!)

Second of all I agree with the majority of the team you listed but there are still some flaws. Oscar Trejo (of Mallorca is not a striker, he’s an attacking midfielder so I’d include him in the midfield list where, might I add you also left out Leandro Depetris (Brescia) and Damian Escudero and Ramon Dario Ocampo (both from Velez Sarsfield).

That leaves one spot upfront remaining and I think it would have to be battled out between Ismael Sosa (my pick), Angel Di Maria and Franco Di Santo (who plaus for Chile’s Audax Italiano and at only 18yrs stands at a whopping 1.91m and is still growing which could offer some much needed height upfront).

You also failed to mention Mateo Mussachio (Rver Plate) Sebastian Battaglia (Boca Juniors - no relation to the older one at the same club) and Diego Buonanotte (River Plate).

Therefore my team would like a little more like the following… (NOTE: I’ve asteriksed ** the players who I’ve added to replace the ineligible ones you listed.

STRIKERS:

Pablo Mouche
Sergio Aguero
Gonzalo Higuain
Mauro Zarate
Ismael Sosa/ Franco Di Santo*

MIDFIELDERS:

Ever Banega
Damian Escudero*
Maximiliano Moralez
Alejandro Gómez
Claudio Yacob
Matías Sánchez
Leandro Depetris*
Sebastian Leto
Oscar Trejo

DEFENDERS:

Gabriel Mercado*
Miguel Angel Torren
Diego Bunanotte*
Julian Federico Fazio
Emiliano Insua
Matías Cahias
Mateo Mussachio*

Oh and btw is it just me or can anyone else fail to see that Messi in the centre of the field as a playmaker or in an “unorthodox” free roaming role for Argentina simply would not work?

Messi is a striker (not an out and out number.9 but a striker none the less) and everybody knows that he is equally as if not far more effective on either wing (particularily on the right) but most definitely NOT a central midfielder! It would be complete stupidity to take him out of his natural game. Blahhh!!! People come on already! Let the D’Alessandro’s, Aimar’s, Veron’s, Riquelme’s, Mariano Gonzalez’s and Leto’s of the world do their own work! Messi in the middle = No Brainer!

Neri Cardozo, Garay and Abraham are all twenty years old they all can play. I remeber last time we had Pablo Zabaleta in the squad when he was 21 years old. So I’m based it off of that.

Diego Bunanotte from River Plate is a froward.

When I was making the list I thought Trejo was a froward so thats why I left out Franco Di Santo. Franco Di Santo is really good he is wanted by serval european clubs.

And I haven’t heard anything about Leandro Depetris in a while so I wasn’t sure.

My Ideal Argentina (senior) lineup provided there are no injuries and everyones in form:

ABBONDANZIERI

AYALA*(c) MILITO

ZANETTI/ZABALETA HEINZE

MASCHERANO

LUIS GONZALEZ CAMBIASSO

TEVEZ SAVIOLA

CRESPO

*When Ayala retires his place is to be taken by Ezequiel Garay. Milito could be replaced by Gonzalo Rodriguez (my fav defender). Please don’t give me his crap about Fabricio Fuentes and Arruabarrena in the national team (what is Basile thinking!) Btw I dont mind Pinola as a straight swap for Heinze or even tall youngster Renato Civelli (ex-Banfield) of Marseille.

DEFENSIVE MIDFIELD: Being a deeper lying line up, I have chosen Mascherano ahead of Gago as he has more ball recovery and distance coverage than Fernando. But Gago could slot in here just aswell, if anything this position (number 5) is one area we dont have any trouble with as following in the footsteps of Redondo we have several players that could do the job just as well if need be, Somoza, Lucas Biglia, Martin Demichelis (everyone has forgotten about him), Cristian Ledesma (San Lorenzo) etc even Cambiasso or Lucho too!!!

UPFRONT I have opted for Tevez over Messi, to further exploit this purple patch he is living at the moment. Besides Messi is more of an impact player than Tevez and would have less trouble adjusting when coming off the bench, and Tevez links better with Crespo anyway. Then again we could start Messi instead of Tevez too. Higuain would come on for Saviola if need be as to D.Milito or Cavenaghi for Crespo.

ALTERNATELY there could be a more dynamic and attack minded lineup such as the following:

ABBONDANZIERI

AYALA(C)

BURDISSO/COLOCCINI HEINZE

GAGO MASCHERANO

MAXI RODRIGUEZ BELLUSCHI

D’ALESSANDRO

CRESPO SAVIOLA

Here I have played Maxi instead of Lucho as it is a wider role, and as this is not a contained line up as opose to the one above, I have given the playmaking duties to D’Alessandro (my favourite in this position), but Veron, Riquelme, Aimar, Jonas Gutierrez even Leto could easily slot into this system. I am also not too sure about whether to play Cambiasso as alternative in Mascherano’s position or wide instead of Belluschi (I would normally have played Sorin). Or maybe leave it as is, I just have a hard time leaving Cambiasso off the pitch.

That is all mi amigos.

Any comments, criticism, suggestions, agreements?

Yeah man you’re right. I actually realised the Buonanotte mistake after I posted it lol. My bad. Btw I think under the new rules you have to be under 20 and 364 days right up until the last day of the tournament which means Garay, Abraham and Cardozo could very well miss out (mind you I’m going off the my understanding that the tournament will be held in Canada in August/September I may be wrong). I’m still not sure whether Zabaleta actually was 21 at Netherlands 2005, or 20 but you’re correct he did feature in 2 as did Biglia I think… Thanks for your feedback loco. Any thoughts on my senior team lineup?

I like that you put D’Alessandro but I like Leto on the left because he is big and strong him or cardozo. Another thing that puzzles me is why isnt Milito in the starting Line up in yours and in Basiles’ he has the second most goals in la liga.

And ny the way the U 29 world cup is in June-July.

Hi guys you all seem to have an excellent knowledge of Argentine youth and was wondering which 10 players you think will make it big and move to Europe, following in the footsteps of the likes of Aguero, Mascherano, Tevez etc. I will be really interested to see how the U20 tournament goes as that seemed to be the catalyst for many to move to Europe.

I think that the Argentina squad should include some of our U-20 champs like Maxi Moralez, Sergio Aguero, Federico Insua and definetly Sergio Romero (at least as subs). They are extremely good players. I’m not saying that the line-up that we have now isnt good, but we should think about including them too. Thats just my opinion though.
And i definetly agree with the person under me, Milito makes me nervous too. He does make at least one mistake per game. Also, Leo Franco makes me nervous because i remember from the World Cup[the game against Germany] he didnt block any shots and that is what (i think)cost us the world cup *or at least getting to the next round.*
Anyways that all i have to say. =]
