You can’t say no to Crespo! Or to Messi or especially Ayala, who has done so much for the NT for so many years. We’ll see how Basile handles this. Messi NEEDS time with the NT.
Messi had a great goal this weekend. He’s spectacular. it royally sucks that we can’t see him, or Dinho or Eto’o, anymore in the Champions Cup. But a shout out for Ayala today. I hope he does great against Chelsea.
To all the people who make this site such a wonderful place to visit — lets all keep posting. I love each and every one of you guys who are as crazy about the beautiful game as I am. There are very few places where we can share this love.

I read on Ole yesterday that Basile will field a team of locals for the chile friendly but then after that he stated he would field a unit of the bestplayers no matter where they are from. He said that if youi are Argentine you are Argentine no matter where you play your club futbol. My onnly fear for the Copa is the Brasilian counter attack because I think that we will domintate possesion against all the teams. Here is my starting 11 up until the final against brasil. i think that we can be vry offensive minded in the first round.
Pato (swan song)
Burdisso Ayala Heinze
Mascherano Gago
Lucho Aimar Messi
Tevez
Crespo
This team would score a lot of goals and I think be sound defensively. The other teams would hardly ever touch the ball :). If we get two wins I would like to see a very young team fielded for the final group game to get ready for the future.
Utsari
Burdisso Milito Heinze
Gago Mascherano
Lucho Messi Morales
Higuain
Aguero
There you have it. If Maxi could play then he would start over lucho and over Morales in the young team. My final team for the Brasil game would be a little more defensive with this line up:
Pato
Zanetti Milito Ayala Heinze
Mascherano Gago
Tevez Aimar Messi
Crespo

Hi guys,
I have been at the two games Mascherano has started so far for Liverpool at home and I can’t begin to tell you how awesome he was! As you will all know, you see even more when you go to a game than you do on TV and in both matches I spent a lot of time watching Masch – his running, his movement, his anticipation – and I can honestly say he is what Diego said he is, and that is a MONSTER!!!
Mascherano represents a lot to me – I am a massive Liverpool and Argentina fan, and he is the first top Argentinean player to wear the Liverpool shirt. (The only others we have had before him have been Pellegrino, Palletta and Insua.) But I can whole heartedly say I was not being at all biased in what I saw. As MaxiLopez says, he is definitely captain material. Masch, Gago, Cambiasso and even Lucho can be used very well together…and we most definitely need an “enganche”…that is the way Argentina plays!!! I personally would love to see Roman continue to play there, but if not…then it would be great to groom Messi in that position. Don’t get me wrong, I am a big fan of Aimar, but if we are thinking ahead to 2010 then maybe, just maybe it is time to go with the future and give him three years in the position to make it his own.
So for 1) the squad for Copa, here goes:
1) Ustari (Again, like Messi, its time to groom our potential world class goalkeeper)
2) Ayala (Would be a great send off for a living legend for Argentinean fans)
3) Samuel (‘The Wall’ has been consistent for Inter this season)
4) Zanetti (Another superb servant who needs to taste some glory!)
5) Cambiasso
6) Heinze (Plays for the fiercest rivals of my team (Man United) and I still love him!)
Mascherano (See above)
9) Crespo (Still our most prolific striker)
10) Riquelme
11) Tevez
19) Messi (The greatest prospect in world football)
Ustari
Ayala – Samuel – Heinze
Zanetti – Mascherano – Cambiasso
Riquelme
Messi – Crespo – Tevez
2 – players to be most excited about –
Messi
Mascherano
Gago
Banega
Aguero
Palacio (Not a ‘youngster’ but could be a great example to younger players to stay and learn the trade in Argentina and THEN move to Europe. I think Barcelona would suit his pace)
3 – What I want to see out of the team –
The killer instinct – too many times we have ‘almost’ won something and fallen at obvious hurdles. Confederations Cup, Copa America, even the World Cup. All these games we didn’t make our chances count – and ended up suffering. Its time to develop the culture of winning and being clinical.
Continuity. Lets build a regular squad, so we can build proper team spirit. I don’t agree with the ‘local’ players squad system…its time to get a core of 25 players and build them up to the world cup. In the meantime, maybe 5 will change due to form but that still leaves 20 guys who know each other inside out.
4) Nothing more to say other than thank you all for keeping me entertained so much at work. I would love to become a ‘regular’ but I cant keep up with some of you guys!

Independiente president in Barcelona for Ustari talks
tribalfooball.com - April 04, 2007
The president of Argentina’s Independiente, Jose Comparada, is expected in Barcelona today.
Comparada is set to hold talks with Barcelona officials over the sale of goalkeeper Oscar Ustari.
The Argentina U20 international has been a long-term target for Barca sports chief Txiki Begiristain.

Were back and were ready for Copa America!!! We got CHILE to deal with first guys… it is coming up… Let the countdown begin!
Did you guys watch Ayala today for Chelsea? The guy is a monster seriously, they were comparing him to Carvalho but I don’t know…What do you guys think? You think Carvalho is as good? I guess he could be, but i never really compared the two… But damn today against Chelsea, Ayala standed up against them…he is so firm, and controlled back there…He is definitely a huge presence for the National team…We need him for Copa America..he still has a lot of offer… I didn’t get a chance to see Heinze and ManU…how did he do? anyone know?
Talk to you all soon…gotta go watch BOCA against Cienciano…
los quiero mucho…
chau!

the last copa america argentina took 22 players so this is my list of 22 players i would love to make this copa and why.
1 franco, solid keeper
2 pato, experience
3 ayal, our best defender
4 zanetti, so versitile
5 samuel, strong defender
6 heinze, fierce and competitive
7 burdisso, can play all four definsive positions
8 milito, leadership skills
9 macherano, a monster
10 gago, the complete player
11 aimar, my favourite
12 veron, guys give him a chance
13 messi, the most potential
14 lucho, a good attacking midfielder
15 bilos, we need his height
16 arruabuenna, also has experience
17 crespo, clinical finisher
18 milito, true goal scorer
19 aguero, talented young player
20 tevez, is in form right now
21 demichelis, solid season
22 cambiasso, tough as they come.

the young players i am most excited about are aguero, higuain and gago. i would like to see argentina play their game and not just play a style according to the oppenent or the situation. for instance if we have a lead lets keep attacking and not sit back. brazil is a dangerous counter attacking team lets not field a team just defend counter attacks. our game is possetion and taking quality shots lets keep it that way. leading up to the world i hope we have group of players who can develop a good chemistry. d milito should get his chance, aimar is our best playmaker at the moment, we have a wealth of d mids, but we need some one to replace ayala

Aimar10. I agree with you that Ayala is our best defender, but only when we have 4 defenders in the back.
For a more agressive formation that requires 3 defenders, Ayala would be the only central def.
And he just doesn’t have enough legs to cover all that ground for 90 minutes.
So, it all depends on the formation.
Saludos

Who no about International friendly ARGENTINA vs ENGLAND 31 may 2007 .

Firstly Maxi Lopez – thanks for the shoutout! I feel humbled by being called amazing, but there is no doubt this blog is amazing! The passion we all share for Argentina is impressive! Look at the stats – this is a non-World Cup year, and the “Argentina move top in FIFA world rankings; Is the Brazil era on the decline?” blog had 452 comments in 3 weeks! That is totally crazy! I know it’s impossible because everyone is from different corners of the world, but it would be great to one day get together and all watch a match together!!!
Vamos Messi19, I have heard nothing of this friendly! If it is in England I will be there…no doubt!
See you all on the new topic!!!

Julian, Ayala was amazing. He made Drogba seem like a novice. I don’t know if you people really realize: AYALA DESTROYED DROGBA! A bit like at WC 06. He was N°1 in the air. Took every balls before Didier. I watched him carefully the whole game. His match was almost perfect. Unfortunately, Roberto is old now, he was a bit slow against Drogba on Chelsea’s goal, anyway, it was also Canizarres’s fault.
We need Ayala for the WC 10, even if he doesn’t play a game. We need his experience. However, until now we don’t have a replacement. If it’s still the case in 3 years, he will have to play. To me, it would even be the case if he was 50 years old!
I admit: i like this guy so much that i forget that young talented defenders will raise soon.
By the way, stupid Amadeo Carboni must be happy: Aimar’s replacement scored Valencia’s amazing goal.
I also saw Roma-MU. Heinze did his game. Manchester were lucky. They could’ve lost 3-1. Roma were a machine. I discovered this particular style of playing last year, Roma has become a great team. The only one who has a counter attacking strategy based on collective and quick short passes. Very impressive. It’s so fast! And guys, they don’t have a single striker! No forward! Only Totti in front who always plays in the middle! When they attack, it’s always the same thing: 10 men playing collective in midfield and using the wings perfectly. Either they shoot from long distance (Totti) or they score from short passes from the wings (Brazilians, Mancini & Taddei, Panucci, Cassetti). Mexes is fabulous too.
Roma and Liverpool are my favorites for the CL.

Ayala was so impressive yesterday against Chelsea. He’s a great big game player - so solid, and completely fearless. Drogba was one of the best players for Chelsea that night, but Ayala really kept him honest. Marca.com blaimed Ayala for the goal, but, from what i heard, Canizares was way off his line. In any case, Ayala was my MOM (of course with Silva).
So happy for Mascherano. Great that he’s gone from West Ham. He went from being on the bench to playing in a quartefinal in tha champions. And hopefully he’ll start in the semis.

Experience would be the key in my team:
Starting:
Pato
Zanetti Ayala Heinze Sorin
Mascherano
Messi Riquelme Lucho
Tevez Crespo
I would like the strikers and wingers to play in a narrow formation through the middle. Zanetti and Sorin are both quite mobile so the field will be broad in the midfield. Inside and just beyon the box, Tevez will provide mobility and Crespo will provide finishing - that should keep the defenders occupied.
Substitutes:
Ustari
Burdisso
G. Milito
Samuel
Gago
Cambiasso
Belushi
Aimar
Saviola
Palacio
D. Milito

Barca lost to Zaragoza (0-1). Zaragoza owned Barca for the first 70 minutes. Gabi Milito and D’Alessandro were the best players imo.

i am very much happy as MESSI scored but at the same time too dissapointed as they concieded 3 goals against a team like ALGERIA.i m afraid of their deffense for the upcoming COPA AMERICA CUP.Basile should fix the problem soon…..otherwise deafiting teams like BRAZIL,MEXICO would be a big challenge for them.
