Argentina 2 - 0 Angola

May 30th, 2006 | By: Nick | 41 Comments »

At 20:00 BST Argentina played a friendly against Angola in the Italian city of Naples.

The starting XI for the game against Angola was the following:

Abondanzierri

Heinze - Ayala - Burdisso - Sorin

Cambiasso - Riquelme - Maxi - Mascherano

Crespo - Saviola

As predicted, Messi was not included, and Saviola was picked over Tevez.

Argentina took a while to settle into the first half, but completely dominated the rest and the whole second half.
The score at the end of the First half is Argentina 2 - 0 Angola with Maxi and Sorin scoring in the 30’s.

In the second half Heinze, Saviola and Riquelme are replaced by Messi, Scaloni and Milito in the 17th minute!!, Burdisso is replaced by Cufré, and Maxi and Cambiasso are replaced by Aimar and Tevez in the 38th minute.

Argentina had many chances to score, but Crespo clearly missed 4 of them, however, regarding the defense of the team, Angola could not get close to Abbondanzierri or even past their own half, specially once Scalloni was sent in.

A great game, and amazing display by Messi and Maxi! Overall, I am very pleased and satisfied with the match :)

Next stop, the World Cup ! Vamos Argentina!

Why didn’t he start carlos tevez??! does he have an injury or a fallout with the coach or something? Saviola is no where near as good as Tevez. If peckerman thinks he can pull this shit in the finals, he’s definitely gonna lose! saviola WAS outstanding at the junior world cup; tevez IS outstanding right now. peckerman must be delusional if he thinks that saviola can repeat his junior world cup form. get REAL peckershit.

The 2 goals came from set-pieces right? Angola are terrible at defending free-kicks! I was glad that Argentina couldnt score in open play though. It was a good match guys. Good luck at the World Cup!

First of all putting Scaloni in was just a waste of time. (hes a shoemaker) Second Tevez really needs to start for either crespo or saviola does not matter he need to be on the field. Third Messi needs to be on the field also injury/no injury/in a wheelchair doesnt matter. Fourth Aimar should be starting also. If i was Aimar and they threw me in at the last 20 mins of each game to try and save the team i would take off my jersey and tell pekerman to shove it up his ass.Fifth they have to teach PATO how to clear the ball.

Overall Argentina outclassed Angola. Angola should look at the bright side though their goalie stopped it from being 5 - 0.

Good warm up game overall.
Crespo missed a lot, but thats OK. Gary Linekar always wanted to miss goals in warmup games so his quota of missed chances are over. Hope the same will be true for Crespo.

Pato was a horror show. I have no clue why he has to play always. Does anyone from Argentina know if he is married to Pekerman’s daughter?

The most sublime moves came when Aimar, Messi, Tevez were pulling it togther. Those 3 should play together. I am not saying they should play, but their chemistry seems to work.

Other than that Sorin was excellent. Ayala was so composed. Heinze was good too. Messi is sharp. And above all as I have always said, Cambiasso and Mascherano must play together.

Sometimes I think so many players get injured, can’t that happen to Abbondanzieri?

Andre: The two goals came from fantastic Sorin crosses. Sorin was man of the match.

Messi, messi and MESSI … he was great!! i was feeling kind of sleepy before he came into game but after that so many nice moves.

Abondanzierri had some mistakes, i dont how they are going to trust him for real games.

and finally CRESPO … hey man, U R a SUCKER … just go to hell … he was slow he lost a lot of opportunities… damn if he wasnt in, somebody else could finish the game 6-0!!! he was also gready, few times he could pass the ball to messi n it was deffinite score but he prefer to ruin it himself. U AINT just BATISTUTA! u never ever be! just take out the number 9 shirt, u dont worth it!

Just want to see MESSI play for 90 minute. he is gonna kill em all!! cant wait till June 10!!!

Pato played bad; Crespo wasn’t to impressive. Aimar was great, but as I usually say on this blog, he can’t be on the field at the same time as Riquelme. So, Aimar coming on as a sub, I think, is a real possibility.

Hummm….does anyone agree with me on this ? I think they are too similar/slow style to be on at the same time. This is unfortunate, because Aimar was great, but I don’t think Riquelme won’t start in the middle.

Anyone agree ?

Other points: Scaloni was o.k…..he reminded me of Gatuso a little bit (just a little !!!)…he should not play though. Tevez looked great, as did Messi. Maxi was great too. Sorin was awesome. Riquelme did well too. Saviola was o.k., crespo was basically non-existant. Crespo has been corrupted by EPL style football.

I am trying to be positive you guys, but I dont like the fact that we only scored 2 goals. I was hoping for at least 4. anyways i haven’t watched the game so, I can’t judge. Other than that i still believe we will have the Cup this time. You guys I have a question. Is it true that if we win this time we get to keep the cup( I heard it somewhere do not know if its correct or not) enlighten me

SUDDHI:
You’re mouth is bull shit Man,
You don’t know football if you compare Crespo to Aguero, we don’t need people like you, just read and the learn before talking shit. Crespo is THE MAN.
He does not care about friendly games. Under pressure, he’s the best striker in Argentina. Aguero is too young, he never played in europe, I think you only watch Argentine or Brasil leagues, those leagues are weak defensively.

Addy take a chill pill. Crespo is one my favourites and is an important part of the team regardless of what others think who quite clearly have never seen play before last night.

No need for the swearing. I will back up Crespo but not in that manner!!

Bati comments are based upon what he saw last night. He doesnt know what Crespo is capable of.

Wamdiego your wrong, Crespo cares whichever argentina game he plays in. Last night it didnt go his way, but what you got to remember, he has not played regularly under mourinho this season.

A player that is a definite in the team for me. He can score at any time in a match.

I saw the game. It was shown on GOLTV here in Los Angeles.
Angola played well for the first 15-20 minutes. They even scared Abbondanzieri with a good low shot in the 5th minute.
IMO, the man of the match was Maxi. Great technique, great goal. He gave Saviola a great pass that the conejito pilfered. Another shot of his hit the post. He defended very well. Awesome! I rarely watch Atletico de Madrid games, so I was not too aware of Maxi. Pleasent surprise.
Riquelme let me down. I am becoming pessimistic. Nothing really good out of him. I am starting to think we don’t need him. Tevez once said that he can either play as a #10 midfielder or as a forward. We would do better with him in the 10 position, imo. Crespo did very well also. He had a good run down the left and he had some good head flicks that almost found the team mate. Saviola? Hmm. Not convinced. Tevez is better.
Scaloni sucks. Bad technique.
Abbondanzieri: he sucked with his poor foot passing skills and his new technique of catching balls called the “facial”.

Imagine this line up;

Crespo

Messi

Tevez

Maxi Lopez

Cambiasso Mascherano

Sorin Heinze Ayala Burdisso

Pekerman seems to have dropped the 4-3-1-2 for the traditional 4-4-2. The twist is, instead o playing the classic “enganche” playmaker of Boca, he played Riquelme as the outside left midfielder…but in the classic South American no. 10 style of the 70’s (think Kempes): always hooking behind the forwards. He claims he got the idea from watching Pellegrini play Riquelme in the same way for Villareal. Sorin, the no. 3 left “lateral” defender ran the lines. Because of the open left side, he opted for a “doble 5″ with two center mids, Masche and Cambiasso with Cambiasso scooting in to the left if defending was needed on the left side(in the 70’s, the left wing forward would drop down to cover the open left side). As play morphed back into the 4-3-1-2 it became pretty clear Cambiasso on the left was unneeded and changes were made (put Lucho there!) So the so-called “starting 11″ were the following:

Pato
Cambiasso-Ayala-Heinze-Sorin

Masherano-Cambiasso-
Maxi- Riquelme

Saviola-Crespo

This is the way it’s supposed to look (computer screwed up):

Pato
Cambiasso-Ayala-Heinze-Sorin

Maxi-Masche-Cambiasso-Riquelme

Saviola-Crespo

Please, bring in Palacio!

Forgive me. I’m not used to these things. It seems I put Cambiasso in two spots. That’s because I never saw Burdisso playing!

Here’s the correct “Starting 11″ for Argentina against Angola:

Pato
Burdisso-Ayala-Heinze-Sorin

Maxi-Masche-Cambiasso-Riquelme

Saviola-Crespo

But is this experiment on the left side necessary?
