Angola Friendly in Napoli

March 9th, 2006 | By: WC Bob | 14 Comments »

The date and location have been set for the friendly against Angola. It will be played May 31 in Napoli, Italy – a city that knows a thing or two about Argentina football. Not sure that Angola is the greatest of opponents, but at this point any opportunity the team gets to play together and for Pekerman to settle on a lineup should be beneficial.

Honestly i dont see much point in this friendly. If hes still tinkering with the team and not sure of his final 11 then he has left it very late and a friendly against angola is no way to prove his best 11. I would forget the friendly that is so late and get the players together early. Get that enthusiam and fire burning again. I would bring maradona into the camp and invite him to stir the players up. Could their be anyone more inspiring.

We wont be short on confidence with or without the friendly.

It would just be boost up. A win, score 3-4 goals and just a feel good factor. Sometimes this is needed. Players just forget how to win. Hammering some minnows at such a stage may help. Otherwise technically speaking there is not much of a positive thing to play Angola.

And, if we lose to Angola, then we may preferably opt out of WC.

While i think Argentina will not lose this friendly, i dont believe that they will win by 3 or more goals. They will be bitterly disappointed if they expect to boost their morale by thrashing an opponent.

I think Argentina is going to thrash Angola, and then have a great World Cup. I am an optimist, what can I say? That last game against Croatia really took a toll on Argentines around the world! But still all games are good to get the boys playing together again and getting a feel for eachother… :)

THANK YOU JULIAN!! its about time we start getting some optimist around here. the truth of the matter is the albiceleste has a great team, more specifically one of the best lines of offense in the world. yes, our defence has been tripping up as of late but, first we have key starters that are injured, second pekerman was still finalising his list by trying players and third well i dont have a third… but i am confident argentina will be in full force come the cup and will be ready to redeem themselves after the poor showing in korea/japan in 02…. VAMOS ARGENTINA CARAJO!!!!!!!!!

Well sure Seba, you know how Argentines are… PROUD AS ****!!! I’m sure they get this from there Italian ancestry! But yes you are right Pekerman was still testing guys out and yes we did have some very key defensemen out, but still that’s no excuse at all! I’m more worried about Messi these days… VAMO VAMOS……..

I love the team and all and am hopeful that at crunch time they get their act together and show some great football, which they can. I just keep thinking they have had horrible form up to WC time.

Though in the last world cup Argentina were seeded one and hadn’t been beaten in a couple of years yet didn’t do well. Maybe they peaked early?

Maybe this time they will peak at the right time?

Yet at the same time it is stupid to think that Pekerman is a genius, and he is deliberately making Argentina to lose so they don’t peak right now. haha.

The team needs confidence pronto. And you can only gain one thing from weak opponents and it is confidence. But the only way you learn what you are doing wrong is by facing tougher opposition.

Now that we have a friendly against Angola there is only one way to get something out of it. Anything less than a five nil victory would bring zero satisfaction.

Someone above said that they lack inspiration. No not at all. They are playing firey football and scoring goals. Their problem is their lapses in concentration and their technique.

I think the problem in the last world cup was the unwillingness to attack. It was just an out of form, Batistuta. Crespo was sitting in the sidelines.

This time we have got more attacking players than I can count. The issue is that the defense keeps conceding goals because it is short.

If Argentina are able to score more than 3 goals without conceding, then i think they might win the world cup. This is because they seem to struggle against African teams all the time. Angola will be no exception.

I just want to take the time out to offer my support to Pekerman. His critics grow day by day but i have faith in his abiity to take argentina to football’s holy grail.

I have no doubt in my mind that he has the best intentions at heart, and believe he will provide when the time comes. Come on people we can do it.

PEKERMAN, IN YOU THE ALBICELESTE TRUST

the biggest argentina has this day is injuried players, it seems cursed is on us, initially it was riquelme, heinze, ayala, mascherano, yesterday messi, now it is tevez. m just failing to understand why this is happening to argentina. well, if they recover on time then we will be lethal in june. put aside the problem of injury, argentina is playing a firing football, but we are having some concentrations lapses,, this can be explained by the abscence of so many experienced, buoying and characterial players, once they are back. argentina will start again keeping clean sheet.

Yea you are correct, it could be because of the lack of experience. I just hope Pekerman has a backup plan.

It will be a tough WC because of all the great talent. I also have faith in Pekerman. I’m not worried anymore about that loss to Croatia. No big deal it’s only a friendly. Argentina plays when it counts. Look what they did in Copa America and Olympics? or against Brazil in that Qualifying game… No worries guys… :)
