Albiceleste/Les Blues

June 29th, 2006 | By: Berny | 117 Comments »

The weekend is almost here, and along with it comes the moment of truth for us Albicelste fans. Will we stuff the Germans in their own oven much like we did to Italy in 1990, or will we cower and fade away, leaving the high powered Germans to book a date with Italy (sorry Ukraine) in the semis?

I have confidence in our boys outplaying an as of yet untested German midfield and defense. What keeps me up in nervous restlesness is the ref factor. Will a spurious penalty be called against our hard hitting defensive unit? Will it be justified? The way I see it, we’re going to have to be extra careful, because referees handling home field advantage circumstances have trigger fingers in favor of the home side. I just hope we maintain a focus in the back throughout the match and don’t give up a dumb penalty. Imagine losing 1-0 to a phantom penalty like we did last cup against England, but this time in the quarter finals? That would be devastating.

Speaking of devastation, the double shame of an Argentina loss on Friday and a Brazil victory on Saturday might be too much for me. It would take lots of time for me to recover from such a twin blow. Brazil must not be allowed to samba their way to a sixth title. So far, they’ve played nobody of worth, so I’m hoping France–their first real test–might frustrate Brazil with their slow, muddy play and upset the defending champs.

I have already spoken to members of my family, my girlfriend and others I know about gathering together on Saturday for a pastryfest to cheer on France. The funny thing is, my family hates France, and yet, when it comes to a world cup encounter with Brazil, they’re ready to put a hand over their chest and sing La Marseillaise.

All of this said, I’m confident we’ll win on Friday. And when Saturday rolls around, be a true fan and cheer on France to somehow sloppy their way past Brazil. When it happens, you’ll say to yourself “pastries and crepes have never tasted so good.”

FIFA can fix games any time and they have too much power.
They can do as they please and as soon as somebody opens their mouth about manipulation and match fixing they ban you or do something nasty to you.
FIFA Media Release

FIFA suspends Stoichkov for four matches
23 September 2005
by FIFA
Bulgaria’s national coach Hristo Stoichkov has been suspended for four matches owing to defamatory remarks made after the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ qualifying match between Sweden and Bulgaria in Stockholm on 3 September 2005. The committee also imposed a CHF 20,000 fine on the Bulgarian official.
This decision was taken by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee (chair: Marcel Mathier, Switzerland) on 22 September in the light of remarks made by Stoichkov to the media in which he attacked the integrity of the UEFA President and FIFA vice-president Lennart Johansson. According to the Committee’s report, Stoichkov was quoted by the media as stating that Lennart Johansson had manipulated the above-mentioned match.

Any suspension not served during this competition will be carried over to the representative team’s subsequent official match. This decision may be contested before the FIFA Appeal Committee

WOW!

I thought I would comment on some of the entries here like I have done in the past few days,
but this conglomeration of idiocy and hate is too much.

So going to bed I can just cry:

IT’S SUPPOSED TO BE ABOUT FOOTBALL - DON’T YOU REMEMBER ?!

To Anthony.Jewish Guys post is not stupid at all.

Is this accusation because you are playing Brazil perchance ?

There is a degree of corruption in the upper echelons of FIFA led namely by Mr.Blatter & his attempts to buy votes at the last presidential election.

So dont just rule such things out of hand.Take them with a large pinch of salt of course.

the 1958 was an historic one.
because, of the 5, THREE were by a young teen named…
pelé.
and you have to mention the place
for 1986 game for the beauty of the invocation when you say it.:au stade Jalisco de Guadalajara (Mexique) .olé

From damage inflicted by a 17-year-old named Pele to a masterful performance by Zinedine Zidane on the greatest night of their lives, France fans have vivid memories of World Cup clashes with Brazil.

“When you’re a football player, your first dream is to play in the World Cup and the next one is to meet Brazil there,” said France midfielder Patrick Vieira, summing up the excitement in the build-up to Saturday’s quarter-final against the holders in Frankfurt.

Berny: Why such hate for brazil??
I know we are arch-rivals but actually i never even thought you guys would actually go to bed with our opponents just to get us beaten!!
I never even contemplated of argentina’s game with germany with praying that you fail because the best team will win or vice-versa!!
Is it because we are going for the “Hexa” while you still scheming for the 3rd!!
I cant believe you guys, you have already formulated a ref conspiracy against you, if you lose! C’mon you’re argentina you’ll figure out something!!
I know you’ll do everything that is humanly possible to win!!
Good Luck!!!

Ray: If every strong team would play to their potential, BRAZIL would be handed this cup on the silver platter because the would’nt be a worthier opponent!!
My point is every game is a tectical battle for each team in order to contaminate the opposition!!

I am from England and I am an England fan. I do not hate Argentina or any other international team for that matter, so It amazes me how much hatred is directed at England by other Nationalities.

May the best team(s) win today and lets look forward to some excellent football.

Lets get it on.

Take your time, buddy. I’m not the youngest any more. And I had to go to the local ET* shop to buy me new joke :-)

Here it is:

You guys ought to get yourselves some cup of herbal tea. To fight your diarrhea.

*ET: a big conglomerate here in Germany. ET stands for ‘England teasers’. They’ll soon eclipse Wallmart.

Lets see what happens with Brazil. One way or another it will confrim the quality of the team and conspiracy theorists alike. Ronaldo reminds me of Pele, lounging upfield and waiting for a ball without doing much else. Can you Brasilian fans give him one of these cute beach chairs you use in Ipanema? Brasil as a team is stil powerful but just - they played dogs all the way to were they are now. We will see what happens next. As per FIFA not interested in Brasil winning again, totally certain. Lets not forget one more detail: if the host team wins and wins and wins, that is a formidable incentive for bidders to the right of holding to world cup to be more brazen and throw billions of dollars in the coffers of Blatter and his cronies. This is all a sham. I believe that unless a team is clear by a two-goal difference, anything can really go on. Germany was mildldy aided to penalty shootout by the ref. Go and watch the replay now you know the result.
Cheers all. Enjoyed the venom, in paricular from Pommies who invented a lot of sports but managed to be atrocious at them all, and whose Prime Minister is an @ss licker extraordinaire of George Bush.
