AIMAR MUST START

June 28th, 2007 | By: Messay Getahun | 132 Comments »

Thats my final analysis of this game. AIMAR came in and change the game, as soon as he came in. Messi was a different player.

Surprisingly i thought veron played well. Zanetti was marvelous. Absolutely marvelous. Heinze played well in the second half. But MILITO is just scary.

Tevez, was tevez. a true warrior.

Crespo, not as effective, because he was on the flanks more. But he scored twice. so good game.

Ayala, rock solid.

Pato - uhmm he wasnt tested.

Riquelme - good game.

Cambiasso - i thought he did ok. but wasnt effective at all.

MASCHERANO - MONSTER.

MESSI Needs AIMAR, and if this team is MESSI’s is the future of this team, we must put players that makes him better. I think putting Aimar and riquelme playing together in the mid. with Messi as a second striker, and crespo up front with tevez his sub. Would be good. I would put Lucho infront of Veron. Mascherano, is really the heart of this team.

Good win.

Colombia you are next.

Colombia will have to attack, so that will leave space for Messi to run at the defenders, as well as for Riquelme to work his magic. Should be fun!

I think Colombia will go for “not to lose” mentality. They have better chance against USA rather than Arg. Win 1-0 is what they’re looking for but they’ll accept 0-0. That also will depend on Par v USA game. It’s not going to be an open game, but physical and tight.

Tim–

No, Riquelme and Crespo have no problem with each other at all (this is what they’ve said). They probably just don’t know each other well, since Crespo has spent most of his career in Europe, and Riquelme’s has been primarily in Argentina. But those were just rumors that started after the World Cup.

Cambiasso hasn’t been playing well, but Arg needs to reinforce the defense, as I see it. The US had one shot at them, and it resulted in a penalty kick. So the defense is still a bit of a question mark.

Aimar needs to be a regular force in the team, but I do think that it’s important that the team be balanced a bit in the back.

I love and adore Aimar. Hopefully we’ll see more of him if he does well as a sub again.

i think basile is giving cambiasso a second chance by leaving him in the starting line up and i hope he does well. but the fact is he was just invisible in the first game, the commentators bearly called his name. he was a little out of position, still he is a professional and should do better than that. remember he was taken out of the starting line up in the world cup in place of lucho and this is the second straight tournament he is struggling again. maybe this guy is just not worthy of starting. thank goodness we still have macherano and gago.

Woah, Brazil was not really playing, in the 1st half! They physically abused the Chilean!

Don’t worry about Cambiasso. He’s a vital defensive at Riquelme’s side. He’ll bounce back. If not, there’ll options in 2nd half.

Yes, it’s going to be a war of midfielders, not only physical but mental too.
Cambiasso is intelligent and experienced in these situations. Same with Veron.
It’s important to start with them.
Also it’s going to be a chess game for the managers who know each other well, and in fact are very similar in the way they see the game.

I have nothing against Cuchu, I think he is a great player. His to last seaons for Inter have been great. But, I love Aimar and I want him to finally become a part of the NT. But I guess we will get to see him tonight for some minutes anyway….

Yes Riquelme we have about 5 hours to go. It is troubling that Basile has decided to go with the same starting line up when he has seen in a training session and the during the 2nd half of the USA game that Aimar being in the team is a lot more effective than Cambiasso. We do have some difficulties playing against Columbia so lets not think that their 5-0 loss means an easy win for us. The US just did not chanllenge us at all offensively. A slight bit of pace against us and our midfield is dead. I want to see more out of Zanetti, Messi and Veron. I think Riquleme did very well in the opening game.

why would Basile go with Veron again? I just do not get it. He didn’t impress me on the U.S. game. at some point I actually had forgotten he was in the field until they sub him. Can someone explain this to me? Is ie because of his friendship with Basile or what???

Messi,
I think its one good thing about Riquelme that even if he goes unnoticed in the game, he certainly affects the score with a simple pass, which only he can do.

I have watched the match videos a couple of times and analyzed and I am not much convinced that it was Aimar who changed the game. I think it was because USA were tired, and since they were already 2-1 down, they chose to open up a little bit more, which created space for us.

So I would also go with Cambiasso and Veron at first and see how it goes.

By the way, Messi works only when he gets some space. When double-marked he should try to play passing game and create chances for other. But he gets so impatient when things dont go his way.

Lets see how Riquelme and Messi gel together today.

Riquleme, I actually thought Veron and Messi combined well a few times. Veron is very good at those outside of the foot and toe-poke short passes which Messi can run on to. I think Veron had too many misplaced passes when he went long and along the ground. His real strength is the long passes in the air. Pin point accuracy. As for Riquelme he keeps the ball so damn well and draws fouls from anyone near him. Pure class and genius. I do agree with you that the US tired but even then Aimar’s goal was all down to him. Which one of our other midfielders was actually going to make a late run into the box to attack a cross?? He did make a difference. It was a move that you could not really defend against. Tired or fresh!

Carrie,
Verón and Cambiasso are midfielders who’s job is to assist Riquelme as a play-maker, and on their way back, assist Mascherano in retrieving balls. They are used to that possition from Inter.
Aimar is a great playmaker and Basile loves him and forward Tevez too.
In his own words, he just doesn’t have room for all of them at the time.
Saludos

Agreed Messi!!
Both the Tevez and Aimar goals are unstoppable.
I just wanted to make sure that we aren’t being too harsh on Veron. He want great, but he wasn’t bad either. If it had been Messi who had charged that fierce long range shot of Veron, we would have gone all praises for him. Badluck, it didnt go in by inches!! But thats the kind of unlucky player Veron has been . So lets just be realistic. I dont like Veron at all, but I just check myself once in a while that I am not being too harsh on him.

Albo,
It seems that our hopes to advance now depends on how badly Argentina defeats the rest in the group. Thats why I will want Argentina to field their best. And I am more scared of Veron than Aimar.

Donovan, I’m not really interested in your opinion in this blog.
You have already run your mouth before the Argentina-USA match, and your opinion now is worth about a half an argentinean peso to me .

I wanna see Messi at his best today, and I wanna see Gaby Milito playing a game without doing a bad mistake.
I predict a 3-1 win for us. Messi, Crespo and Riquelme the goalscorers. What do you gyus think?
