AFA, FIFA, and World Cup preparation

Well here we are guys! Let’s move on and forget about that terrible loss to Spain. We all know we didn’t do so well so let’s just get over it. You guys are right, Argentina needs to think more about the future and stop living in the past. What we need to do is learn from the past, and improve. There’s news: We play Catalonia on December 16 in Barcelona’s Camp Nou, Messi says he wants Argentina to play with 3 forwards just like he does in Barcelona, and Messi’s very hectic schedule coming up. His first big game is against Inter in the champions league it’s huge, then he has the game against Catalonia, the Mundial de Clubs in Abu Dhabi, and the World Footballer of the year award… can he do it? I think he can and will…
Here is our international friendly match schedule:
16.12.09 Argentina Czech Republic
22.12.09 Catalunya Argentina
03.03.10 Germany Argentina
11.08.10 Republic of Ireland Argentina
Enjoy the blog and keep it clean.

Todd Utah,
Did you say Greece, Nigeria and Japan?
Well, you got 2/3. You nailed it boy.
We got a good draw. We should be able to advance without a doubt. I hope and pray.
Brazil is in hot soup. IC will run riot in the AFrican prairies, precisely the veldt.
for some reason i feel confident going into this world cup. last world we were playing so beautiful yet we got knocked out in the last eight. this time my goal for the team is to take it one step further and make it to the semi’s. but we have some serious steps we need to take : the right personnel, the right tactics and a balanced game plan. seeing the draw got me real excited, i just hope they don’t have those awful horns like at the confederations cup.
looooool Maxi lopez
Speaking of zoos why can’t you keep a lid on your emotions. lol
“NAPOLIFAN, where were you in 2002? We were supposed to play France in 8th, like in 2010. But this time, I don’t even want to think about it. You love negative futbol right? That’s probably why you like Maradona. Why don’t you support Italy or Germany then?”
What is this? a fact, a question, a negative comment. What is it supposed to be? lol

now maradona must decide and chooce de best skill player like riquelme, mesi, tevez, maccerano, maxi rodrigues, henzi, zeneti, demenchel, lopez, aimar,.
it`s the front line player for argentina. i`m fan of argentina and i think maradona should invite requelme and zeneti to his team for winning world cup 2010. requelme is game maker n controller for his team and he wil team up with mesi, aimar and tevez to score gol.i hope argentina will win world cup 2010 if he select my player as above.

lets stop lying to each other boys
maradona is ruining this good generation of players
have you seen our youth teams?…not doing to well
and now maradona is living in the past instead of the present
calling players past their prime and excluding in form newer names
sometimes i think maradona does not watch football, he simply sits at home and watches video’s of himself, and talks to himself about how good he was
I am so confused. Here’s an article about the chances of Argentina winning the world cup.
http://hotfile.com/dl/14043797/8b6188d/Top_50.Goals_In.FIFA_World_Cup.By.Dark_Man.rmvb.html
The writer predicts us facing Spain in the semi finals, but aren’t they in the last group and we’re in the 2nd group. So we should be in the opposite leg as they are. Isn’t the only possibility to meet Spain be in the world cup finals? I’m sooo puzzled… if anyone has a playoff leg that shows ‘Winner of Group A’ vs. ‘Runner-up of Group B’, etc.. I’d greatly appreciate it.
OMG sorry! That wasn’t the article…

Like, aren’t groups A-D on one leg of the playoff and groups E-H on the other leg?
A-D: Argentina, France, England, Germany
E-H: Holland, Italy, Brazil, Spain
We will most likely meet one of the 4 teams from groups E-H should we make it to the final.. am I right or wrong? Soooooo confused!!
SETH
what were stars before the victory of 78 and 86?… the 86’s players, coach, game style were not all that well known by the opponents (out of 22 we had only some 5/6 europe based players)
yes this is argentina they can win any team in this world cup and for that we need to use our bests (players & strategy) and no doubt we have it in bulk

Let’s keep our feet on the ground. It may be a cliche but there will be no easy games particularly if we keep with this coach and do not bring in proper coaching and select the right players.
On face value South Korea and Greece do not offer much attacking threat but they are very well organized.
Nigeria might be the easiest to take on in that their defence is weak as is their goalkeeper and they will rely on Odemwingie’s pace to get the ball into the box as soon as possible.
We need to get the midfield organized .Without this we are finished.
And then get the right players for the defence. Upfront I can see Higuain having a whale of a time. Remember despite our weak qualification no team will be happy to face Messi ,Higuain, di Maria and then throw on Aguero, Lisandro.
But please select the right strikers. Lisandro,Barrios,Saviola must get in ahead of Palermo. And Zarate ahead of Lavezzi.
And no sign at all of Schiavi, Sebadom, Papa at all.Bolatti and Angeleri only of the domestic players at present. Gaitan, Mouche not just yet.
Saludos amigos.
Saviola, Aimar and Di Maria should be integrated as a unit, imo.
they would be highly effective and wonderful to watch.
this team must not solely depend upon Messi. as good as he is, Argentina have so many great players that it would be a disservice to the collective pool of talent to do what Pekerman did with Riquelme or what Maradona is saying he wants to do with Messi (build it all around him).
Messi can play brilliantly within a team strategy and he can play brilliantly within a unit (Messi-Iniesta-Xavi or Messi-Bojan-Henry or Messi-Ibra-Keita etc), combine some units together and put Messi into the mix, should work a treat.
would be awesome to see Saviola-Higuain up front, with Aguero playing off them and Aimar and Di Maria supplying them. Messi could play on the right and rotate with Aimar, Aguero and Saviola (who can play very effectively, on the right or left).
I disagree on one thing PRO, this “theory” that I’ve never understood. The teams in Argentina are built around an enganche. It doesn’t mean the 10 guys around the #10 are here to watch him making the difference. The 2006 team was built around an enganche but each of the 10 other players could make the difference thanks to collective movement. Also, we had Aimar & Messi on the bench and that’s why we were never depending on Roman. Then, if an enganche is “shut” down by the tactics of the opponent, it means he’s not good enough (in my opinion, Riquelme was too nervous VS Germany 2006, but he had a correct game). It was totally different than today. Maradona asks Messi to do everything, on his own.
I think some of guys haven’t realized one thing yet. Maradona doesn’t care about teh bautiful game. All he wants to do is defend and counter attack. Forget about fantastic enganche Aimar, Saviola, etc. All this will never happen. Expect Jonas Gutierrez, Heinze, Palermo instead. I remind you guys that AFA want us back in 1986. They want us to play like Germany.

Maxi, I am not saying that Maradona builds around Messi now, he doesn’t seem to have any ideas about team structure or generating fluidity of any sort. I was commenting on Maradona’s statements about building around Messi. I think with Maradona in charge, that kind of plan will absolutely destroy Messi because he will have all the pressure and no system through which other amazing players (Aguero, Saviola, Aimar, Higuain, Di Maria…) can effectively contribute.
Regarding my comments on Pekerman/Riquelme. The way I look at it is that the ‘team’ is basically a set of nodes, the ball is the information passing between them. the idea is to retain the information and to effect delivery (goal) as often and as reliably as possible.
Argentina, unlike my country, are stupendously blessed with good nodes that can take the data safely and pass it on quickly and accurately forward/backward/sideways. Unfortunately, if 60%+ of the dones are effectively only connected via this one node (Riquelme) then it becomes of paramount importance that this node be superhumanly capable, and Riquelme isn’t. not only does he suffer psychological problems (England has plenty of good players with those
) but he does not possess the athleticism to effect forward delivery with any great frequency, if the opposition pressure him. what tends to happen, as far as I can see, is that the network ends up separated, with the nodes adrift, because the opposition has ‘firewalled’ (really bad application of the metaphor, I know) that critical node.
Messi and Aimar had nothing to do with the system Pekerman deployed. Cambiasso, Sorin and even Heinze were chosen because they complement/guard Riquelme better. it doesn’t work when Aimar comes in, he operates further forward for the majority of play. Messi is a totally different player and (at the time) Pekerman was right to bench him. he was (is?) a boy, he shouldn’t be Argentina’s ‘lifeline’, Argentina have too many great players for that.
I prefer the internet. many individual nodes can go down, but the network just reroutes the information. if you have units (as suggested in my previous post), I think that the way you will move the information about will be too varied for the opposition to closedown and the speed with which it can be moved, too fast for effective blocking.
you could argue that you can achieve the same thing by playing a deep-lying playmaker alongside a standard ‘engache’, say a Banega-Riquelme combination, but then if they shut down Banega, they cripple the flow too… hope the analogy wasn’t too forced/tortuous.
I think Argentina is having bigger problem whit defence. They are confused. There is lack of concetration in defence is main problem. In attack they have much players to pick and all of them can do good. just look goals that they consided. I think some of them are consided like they are not profesional players. Anyway they got a lot of time to bild on this. Good luck ARGENTIA
Procrastinator is right, Saviola, Aimar and Di Maria should be integrated as a unit. Lisandro or Higuain to join Saviola upfront, Messi filling the right flank as usual and Di Maria on the left. I would prefer Lucho as the starting ‘engache’, he’s a regular scorer and I know he has e good understanding with Lisandro. Also we could avoid playing too much steel in the holding role, AKA Mascherano. Would prefer Banega, though the style of play has to favor the possession game for this line up to work. Replacements for Messi and Di Maria whom will be our most attacking and creative players, will be Maxi Morales and Diego Bounanotte!
The back four is Argentina’s biggest problem. Argentina have the best collection of players to select from, even with local Primera players alone Argentina could win the WC. The only problem we’ve had in the past WC’s is the right coach for the job. Peckerman was good but made a bad decision not to play Saviola vs Germany in WC 2006. We should dominate possession of the ball and dictate play against any opposition, Keeping possession and dictating play starts from the back line, NO long clearances from the back please!
Anyway, two spare rooms available in JHB during the WC. Will try to give more info to those interested hardcore Arg fans who cannot afford hotels.
And how about Simeone to coach Argentina at WC?! He’s managed some excellent achievements in short spells with different clubs in the past few years, probably the best man to make improvements to Argentina within the coming months…
I don’t care what anyone says Maradona and Grondona are ruining Argentinos futebol. Both need to be fired. Players like Tevez and Messi Argentinos should made the World Cup with ease but no Argentinos needed a win to sneak into the World Cup.If this trend continues Argentina won’t make it out of the group stage.

procrastinator, i think u dont see la liga and uefa champions leage. You are sayng messi shouldnt be given be priority, and argentina got amazing players like aimar, saviola!! DUDE aimar saviola have always proven to be failures in the past.. There is a saying in economics , the market price speaks the truth.. Messi is currently valued 100 million pound in europe, Aimar and Saviola together wont make 10 million.. Aimar was proven looser in 2002 and 2006, Saviola a looser in 2006, Aimar has proven looser in europe as well. What do u see in him that makes him different from rest of the world.. Messi is the man for Argentina, the golden man, he can surpass Maradona, and yes, he plays in a team that passess the ball and moves very fast, but that is how the new world of football is all about. Gone are those days when slowpoke teams with boring passing 4-4-2 was alive.. And Pekermen no matter how much you praise, was a flop, a loooser in the big arena. Argentina played craaap against Germany with aimar saviola, riquelme, and veron was crap in 2002.. Messi HIguin and Maria are the men..
we still have a dream of Jos Hedenk

Its all about chasing shadows.
By that I mean latching on to this or that latest, most innovative idea that some self styled money making guru has put out in the hope it’ll go viral and make them a lot of money off the backs of all the headless chickens who will follow them blindly down a blind alley. Its a shame but a truism nonetheless that people will follow where someone they see as an expert leads. Even if they lead them to certain disaster, which is what most of the gurus tend to do to their flocks.
The trick is to recognize a shadow when you see it!
