A Record Transfer Fee if Tevez Moves

April 28th, 2006 | By: WC Bob | 27 Comments »

The company that owns Corinthians has said that it would take a record transfer fee for it to agree to let Carlos Tevez play elsewhere. Said the company’s president Kia Joorabchian:

“I know that after the World Cup in Germany lot of teams will want to buy Tevez, but it does not matter to us,” he said. “Now, we have a project. In four or five years he will be sold. Tevez will leave Corinthians if a team pays the contract’s release clause, which is between 100 million and 120 million euros (£69million and £83million). Maybe he won’t leave Corinthians even for that money. I think that he is very happy here.”

I have to think that after Tevez has an incredible World Cup this price is going to only go higher. What do you guys think? Do you like having him play at Corinthians or would you prefer to see him play in Europe?

I wish every Argentine player gets to stay in South America for few years to mature enough before going to Europe.

Look at what happened to Saviola. They rushed him to Europe and had a very hard time with a struggling Barca. And in the end the move did not help his career at all. The same is about to happen with Aguero who is moving this year at barely 18.

My point is that the players have to be worried about finding a team that fits them. Not just the team that pays the most. Tevez is doing the right thing. I want to see him in Europe next year because it is time for him to get some recognition abroad. But only few clubs are capable of buying him. I dont want to see him go to Chelsea. It will be a nightmare. I want to see him in LaLiga.

Yes, Spain would be perfect for Tevez, I think. The most stupid thing to do is moving to Italy.
I am not sure if playing in England is such a good idea for him either.

Tevez will eventually go to Europe because that’s where the big $$ are.

He’s an incredible talent and will shine the brightest this summer, like he did in the olympics.

I would love to see him return to Boca, but the money will take him to Spain.
Just have fun watching him, no matter what jersey he’s wearing.

Hi,

Dear US people, I can understand you, you’d like to keep football best player near you, but it’s impossible. As far as basketball is an american sport, football is an european sport. The best leagues are in europe, for tevez it’s not a money question but a challenge question. He must show he’s able to dominate in front of best defences in the world: Italian defences. In brazil, defence is a joke, for example Nilmar performs near tevez, but in Lyon (France) he was just a sub ! So stop joking football head quarter is waiting for tevez since 2 years, if he wouldn’t come this year he would be a loser. What a shame would it be for an argentine player to spend his all carreer in brazil. A league where the leading scorer is 40 years old……
Moreover, tevez never proved anything with the National team, olympic games in football is a joke.
I love tevez, but if he keeps playing at a low level, he will disappoint lots of football fans, and will definetly show he’s a LITTLE winner.

I agree with that tevez a great player but the brazilian league is to low for a player like him. I don’t like chelsea for him although I’m sure he could prove himself where ever he goes la liga, the calcio, the premier league, he would fit well and break any defanse it don’t matter where he goes.

wamdiego10, you made some valid points about the brazilian league not being the top form of competition. But, winning is winning and scoring is scoring. Tevez is a GREAT player because he has succeeded at every level thus far; in Boca he was the champion of the America’s AND won the intercontinental, in the olympics he excelled, in Brazil he is dominating.

Furthermore, I presume you are referring to Romario being the 40 year old leading scorer in Brazil. Holding that premise as true let me ask you this: Did Romario not dominate at every level, including winning a World Cup. Tevez is very capable of following similar footsteps. You have a valid point my friend but, I feel you are taking it to the extreme… Premature exit from South America has lead to the downfall of many of our young talents (or maybe not downfall but did not permit them to reach their full potential) such as Saviola, D’Alessandro, Cavenaghi, Cardetti the list goes on…

Hi my dear,

I hope tevez is as good as you say, so if he is he shouldn’t meet Saviola’s or d’alessandro’s problems. Ronaldo left brasil (18 or 19?) very early, he performed, I think it’s the right moment to go for tevez, he’s 22. Do you really think tevez can equal Ronaldo in the future ? I hope.

Against England recently Tevez was hopeless. Rooney, Joe Cole, Lampard, Gerrard etc were all way better!

This Tevez is vastly over-rated!

I guess that must ‘ve been the only time you watched Tevez play. Tevez travelled to play against England directly after playing a game with his team in Brazil. He did not rest at all. Beside he was the focus of the english defense that night and he had a role in 1 of Argentina’s goals.

Lampard/Gerrard and co were dominated by Riquelme who was completely superior to any english player in the field.

Tevez shined in the Copa American and the olympics. He is in no way overrated. If there is someone who is overrated then it is none other than Rooney who is getting all this media attention. Where is he now ? thats right injured.

Please dont come trolling here telling us that Tevez is overrated.

well gary … Tevez has almost won everywhere; U20 with argentina, argentine league, copa libertadores, toyota cup (over man united), olympic gold. winning in brazil with corinthians, currently the best player in brazil & in south america (3rd time consecutively) and u call him over-rated, well what has rooney done for everton(+£27m), man united(-£27m) and england. its the media that makes him popular not his achievements, its all the same with michael owen. its rooney overrated not tevez (he is a winner). i hope rooney recovers soon to play for england, he is a player i would love to see in the wc06 he will shine for england & i hope to see eng v arg final.

The guy from England is ridiculous.
Tevez played an important role in the first goal of argentina, and he attracted several England player’s attention (including lampar or gerrad), then pass out the ball. If you don’t remember, watch it again, you will find the skill of Tevez!!

In fact, if Tevez play from the beginning, Argentina never lose until he left the field!!! Try to remember copa america final, several world cup pre-qualify games, Union cup final, and the games against England and Croatia.
Argentina loses only after Tevez left!!!

Besieds, Saviola and D’Alessando didn’t play very well in Europe mostly because they are not strong enough or the speed. No one has ever doubt the skills of them.
Tevez has no problem with strongness or speed. Look the game against England, he has no problem with the body conflict with those strong England defense palyer. And he is also fast. There is just no reason he won’t be a great player.

Tevez is truly one of the best players in the world. He is just not so recognised because he doesn’t play in Europe. I think as long as he is happy in Corinthians it doesn’t matter. Everyone will see in the world cup what he is made of.
Yes, I hear d’Allessandro is a very good player too, maybe he will be sub for the World Cup.

Well good try to the Yanks, Middle Easterns and Canadians for having a go at commenting on football. Canada’s best player is Hargreaves, and why Sven picks him I don’t know. Stick to Ice Hockey.
To the Yanks- yes we all know you think you are the greatest nation on earth and know everything about everything- one question- could you point out wales on the map? I mean are we supposed to take anything seriously from people in a country that has chosen to be led by Bush, Rumsfeld and Cheney? Romario WAS a legend, but at 40 he couldn’t get double figuers in the Ryman Premier league.
You are right that Tevez would be better off staying in Brazil or going to Spain, as he’s too much of an old woman to handle the premiership. You can’t even compare him to Rooney or Gerrard- proper players with skill and arsehole. Unfortunately most of our imports only have the former. And usually only when they feel like it, not on a wednesday night away to Blackburn. Tevez would do as well as Veron or Forlan. Riquelme is crap as well, one season in the prem next year being cut in halve by players like Nolan and Jagielka would soon send him packing crying for his mum.
You want to have a look at England vs Argentina? The date 1982 springs to mind. Oh, and the best Argie ever? A druggie cheat.
Stick to games you know a little about, like American ‘Football’. What a load of crap.

Shame for me that I come from England where it seems that most of the blogs from there are so nationalistic and narrow minded…let me remind you lot that the premiership would be a bunch of boring crap were it not for the diversity of the foreign players.
Next you will be telling me to shut my mouth because I am a woman…but I can bet you I know far more about ‘international’ football than some of you will EVER know…since you don’t think to look past your own back yard…By the way…why not listen to the likes of Rooney, Gerrard and Lampard talk about Tevez…they all think he is brilliant…seems like you are a bit out of the loop..Get with the programme or start watching more games than the bloody premiership would you!

hi john: nice post. as a matter of fact, I can point out Wales on a map – it happens to be to the east of England in the SE of the british isle. now regarding your statements about english players having skill and arsehole – I am not very familiar with the slang you speak on your little island but assume that the latter is reference to toughness. you will find tough players coming from any country and continent and you will have softer players from the same places. Tevez can hold his own, you would not have to worry about him. He is also not a one-trick pony like a number of the english players, for example Crouch – can head a ball, or Owens – used to be able to run really fast. And he does not avoid tackles like another favorite player on your team. So my advice to you is to inform yourself a little better before you run of your preconceived notions about footballers from other countries, and also about the knowledge of fans from other countries. England may have invented the game but it is played and known all over the world. And mastered much better by most sides than the English. Unfortunately not by the Americans – by the way, Yankees are only those from the north east of the U.S., a relatively small part of the country. But maybe in another 20 or 30 years, who knows. In the meantime, let’s enjoy the show put on by Argentina, Germany, Portugal, Italy, France, and Brazil.
